Miguel Vargas Recovers From Hand Injury, Playing on Friday

Chicago White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas (hand) is back in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener on the road against the San Francisco Giants and right-hander Trevor McDonald, batting third for the Pale Hose, according to MLB.com. Vargas injured his hand on Tuesday and was held out of the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Seattle Mariners, although he did have a pinch-hitting appearance. Now that he's back in action to kick off the weekend series at Oracle Park, fantasy managers will want to get him back into their starting lineups in traditional formats. Although Vargas is only batting .237 (40-for-169) on the year, he has contributed plenty for those in points leagues, adding 11 home runs, 29 RBI, 35 runs scored, and seven stolen bases in 48 games across 207 plate appearances as the team's starting third baseman. The Cuban infielder is hitless in his last three appearances, but before that, he had a nine-game hitting streak in which he went 12-for-32 (.375) with four long balls, three doubles, 11 RBI, and 10 runs scored.

Miguel Vargas' X-Rays Come Back Clean, Sitting Out on Wednesday

Chicago White Sox manager Will Venable told White Sox reporter Brooke Fletcher that third baseman Miguel Vargas' (hand) X-rays came back negative, but he will not be in the starting lineup for Wednesday's contest in Seattle against the Mariners. Vargas is receiving treatment and could potentially be available off the bench for a pinch-hit situation. Shortstop Colson Montgomery will shift over to the hot corner and bat cleanup, with Luisangel Acuna playing the 6 and hitting in the nine-hole on Wednesday against Mariners right-hander Emerson Hancock. Vargas was hit by a pitch on his hand during Tuesday's victory at T-Mobile Park, and he was able to stay in the game. However, he's probably a little sore, and Venable noted that the starting third baseman was due for a day off anyway. The 26-year-old Cuban can be an asset in deep-mixed fantasy leagues for his power production. Vargas is currently hitting .237 (40-for-169) with 11 homers, 29 RBI, seven steals, and 35 runs scored in his first 47 games across 206 plate appearances in 2026.

Miguel Vargas Continues to Hit the Ball Hard in Two-Homer Game

Chicago White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas led the charge in the team's 6-1 win over the visiting Seattle Mariners on Saturday, going 2-for-3 at the plate with two home runs, three RBI, a walk, and a strikeout to raise his season average to .228 and his OPS to .840. Vargas' two home runs came against Luis Castillo and Josh Simpson. It was the 26-year-old's first multi-homer game of the season. Although the Cuban infielder is still hitting just .228 (31-for-136) on the year, he's making more consistent contact at the plate than he ever has before. He's up to nine home runs on the season and has added 21 RBI, 28 runs scored, and six stolen bases in his 38 games played in his second full season with the Pale Hose. In 11 games since April 27, Vargas has gone 11-for-38 (.289) with four long balls, eight RBI, eight runs scored, and a stolen base across 47 plate appearances. He's heating up and remains a useful corner-infield power bat in deep-mixed fantasy leagues.

Miguel Vargas is Worth a Look During Hot Streak

Chicago White Sox infielder Miguel Vargas has been putting together a nice stretch of play at the plate recently. Vargas is currently riding a six-game hitting streak heading into Sunday's game against the Washington Nationals. During this stretch, Vargas is hitting over .400 with three home runs, five RBI, and seven walks. His overall numbers aren't pretty, but it seems like Vargas is finally turning a corner. The plate discipline is great to see with Vargas already having 19 walks on the season. Fantasy managers looking for help with walks or just need a batter right now should consider adding Vargas during his hot stretch.

Miguel Vargas Hits Grand Slam, Drives in Six in Win Over Miami

Chicago White Sox infielder Miguel Vargas took care of business on Monday to help the team beat the Miami Marlins 9-4 in the opening game of a series at LoanDepot Park, going 2-for-4 with a grand slam, two runs scored, and a career-high six RBI. Vargas was playing first base in this one while batting out of the leadoff spot. His grand slam came in the fourth inning off right-hander Chris Paddack. The home run was his first of 2026, and his six RBI were also his first runs batted in of the season. In his first full season with the White Sox in 2025, Vargas hit .234/.316/.401 with a .717 OPS, 16 home runs, 60 RBI, 80 runs scored, and six stolen bases in 569 plate appearances over 138 games played. In deep-mixed leagues as corner-infield depth, Vargas is a fine power bat as an everyday player who has eligibility at both first and third base for the Pale Hose. Vargas' six-RBI game will surely draw attention to him in deeper leagues where he's available.

Miguel Vargas Could be Worth Stashing

Chicago White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas went hitless during Thursday's Opening Day matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers. Vargas went 0-for-3 at the plate with a walk in the blowout loss. It wasn't an ideal start for Vargas, but that shouldn't stop fantasy managers from considering scooping him up. The 26-year-old was in the three-hole, which should help his fantasy value if he sticks in that spot going forward. He's coming off a productive season with the White Sox in 2025. He slashed .234/.316/.401 with 16 home runs and 60 RBI across 138 games. The expectation is that Vargas will get a chance to play full-time at third base in 2026. He doesn't hit for average, but has decent pop, can draw walks, and has some speed as well. Vargas does enough right on the field to warrant a look in deep leagues to start the season.

Miguel Vargas to Mainly Play Third Base

Chicago White Sox infielder Miguel Vargas is excited about the chance to primarily be a third baseman this upcoming season. Vargas said he's 100 percent happy with playing third base, and it's a position he has been playing since he was a kid. He did see action at the hot corner last season, but also played 63 games at first base. Given these comments, it seems likely that Munetaka Murakami is going to be the everyday option at first base. The shift to full-time third baseman is a downgrade defensively for Vargas, who made nine errors in 79 games at the hot corner last season. He doesn't offer a ton of upside with the bat, but he did produce decent power numbers last season. Vargas slashed .234/.316/.401 with 16 home runs, 60 RBI, and six steals in 138 games in 2025. He figures to be the everyday man at third base with Lenyn Sosa mixed in as well.

Miguel Vargas Reinstated and Starting on Wednesday

The Chicago White Sox announced on Wednesday that they reinstated infielder Miguel Vargas (hand) from the 10-day injured list and optioned infielder Bryan Ramos to Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. Vargas is back at third base and will hit sixth in his return on Wednesday against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Griffin Jax. The 25-year-old has been out for two weeks with a left-hand sprain, but now that he's back, he should be a lineup regular for the Pale Hose the rest of the way in 2025. In his first full year in the Windy City, Vargas has slashed .234/.315/.404 at the plate with a .719 OPS, a career-high 14 home runs, 52 RBI, 69 runs scored, and four stolen bases in 121 games played. The Cuban infielder was hitting better in August before his hand injury, batting .281 (16-for-57) with a homer, five doubles, and eight RBI in 16 games.

White Sox Place Miguel Vargas on Injured List With Hand Sprain

The Chicago White Sox announced on Friday that they placed infielder Miguel Vargas (hand) on the 10-day injured list with a left-hand sprain and recalled rookie first baseman Tim Elko from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. With Vargas heading to the IL, Curtis Mead will make the start at third in Friday's contest against the visiting New York Yankees and will bat fifth against left-hander Carlos Rodon. Vargas injured his hand in Thursday night's loss to New York when he was involved in a collision at first base. With Chicago's season practically already over, fantasy managers shouldn't be holding out hope that the 25-year-old will return before the end of the season. The Cuban infielder does have a career-high 14 home runs in his first full season on the South Side, but he's also hit a pedestrian .234/.315/.404 with 52 RBI, 69 runs and four steals in 121 games.

Miguel Vargas Leaves Thursday With a Wrist Contusion

Chicago White Sox utility man Miguel Vargas left Thursday's game with a left wrist contusion. He will undergo further testing today, the Chicago White Sox report. Vargas attempted to field an errant throw at first base and collided with Aaron Judge, injuring his wrist in the process. While the initial diagnosis is a contusion, Vargas will undergo further imaging, and all indications point towards a trip to the injured list; however, at this time, he is considered day-to-day. Vargas has been solid for the White Sox lately, slashing .286/.444/.571 over his last seven days. Michael Taylor entered the game for Vargas after he left. Fantasy managers who are in a tight playoff race will likely want to move on from Vargas, as he was a streamer bat at best in most formats.
