Nick Burdi Designated for Assignment by Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox have designated right-handed pitcher Nick Burdi for assignment, according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive. Burdi has dealt with multiple injuries this season and has spent the majority of his healthy innings with Triple-A Worcester. In the 5 1/3 innings he pitched for Boston this season, Burdi did not allow an earned run and recorded five strikeouts. The Red Sox are recalling left-hander Jovani Moran from Triple-A, who will replace Burdi on the team's 40-man roster, but Boston will need to make an additional move to clear an active roster spot.

Nick Burdi Shut Down With Hip Injury

Boston Red Sox right-hander Nick Burdi (foot, hip) has been shut down with a hip injury, according to the Boston Herald's Gabrielle Starr. Burdi has been out since June 15 with a foot injury and had been rehabbing at Triple-A Worcester, but now he's dealing with a foot injury and will miss more time. Given the timing, it's highly likely that the 32-year-old veteran reliever won't return to the big-league bullpen until after the mid-July All-Star break. Burdi had only appeared in four games out of Boston's bullpen before his injury, tossing 5 1/3 scoreless frames with two walks and five strikeouts. He's not really on the fantasy radar in any leagues at this time. In his sixth MLB season in 2025, Burdi has compiled a 5.34 ERA, 1.65 WHIP, one save, 44 strikeouts and 21 walks in 35 relief appearances with four different teams since debuting in the majors in 2018 with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Nick Burdi's Status Unclear

Chris Hatfield of SoxProspects.com reports that Boston Red Sox reliever Nick Burdi (foot) hasn't pitched during his rehab assignment since last Sunday and was removed from the team's MiLB.com roster this past Wednesday. That could have signaled that the 32-year-old may have been activated from the injured list over the weekend, though that didn't come to fruition. There's been no further news on Burdi, which leaves the door open to the notion that he suffered a setback during his progression. He's been shelved on the 15-day IL since June 3 with a foot contusion. It's a situation to monitor until we get more news. The veteran hadn't allowed an earned run through four appearances (5 1/3 innings).

Nick Burdi To Have Another Live BP Session

New York Yankees right-hander Nick Burdi (hip) is going to have another live batting practice session before he possibly starts a minor-league rehab assignment. Burdi is dealing with inflammation in his right hip and recently suffered a setback but he's throwing again and is getting close to going on a rehab assignment. Assuming everything goes well when he resumes throwing in games, the 31-year-old veteran should be able to return to New York's bullpen in early August. He's been out of action since late May. In his first year in the Bronx before getting hurt in the first half of the 2024 campaign, Burdi was pitching very well and had a career-best 1.86 ERA (5.43 FIP) and 1.45 WHIP with 12 strikeouts and nine walks in 9 2/3 innings out of the bullpen.

Nick Burdi To Return On Friday

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said relief pitcher Nick Burdi (hip) is expected to come off the injured list and rejoin the bullpen on Friday for the start of a series in Tampa against the Rays. Burdi was put on the injured list on April 19 with right-hip inflammation but is now ready to return to the Bronx. The 31-year-old struck out all three batters he faced in his only inning of work with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in his line minor-league rehab outing. Burdi isn't really on the fantasy radar in a middle-relief role for the Yankees, but he's been lights-out so far, tossing 6 1/3 shutout innings with a win, five walks and eight strikeouts in seven appearances out of the bullpen.

Nick Burdi Heading To Injured List

New York Yankees relief pitcher Nick Burdi (elbow) has been placed on the 15-day injured list on Friday. This is a tough blow to the Yankees bullpen that is already dealing with injuries. Burdi was pitching well as he hasn't allowed a run through 6 1/3 innings this season. The Yankees are hopeful that it'll be a minimal stint on the injured list for Burdi. In a corresponding move, right-hander Cody Morris has been recalled from Triple-A to take the spot on the active roster.

Nick Burdi Undergoing Plasma Treatment

Pittsburgh Pirates reliever Nick Burdi is opting to undergo a platelet-rich plasma treatment on his right forearm to avoid having surgery, according to Jason Mackey of Post-Gazette Sports. Even if the procedure goes well, Burdi's 2020 season is still over. Keone Kela (COVID-19) will likely take over the team's closing role once he is activated from the injured list. He is the arm to own in the Pirates' bullpen for fantasy purposes.

Nick Burdi Shut Down For 2020 Year, Bucs Bullpen In Flux

Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed pitcher Nick Burdi has been placed on the 45-day injured list due to a right elbow injury, ending his 2020 campaign just as it was beginning. Having notched his first big league save back on July 28, Burdi was holding down the Pirates closers role for the time being, having showcased a triple-digit fastball. With Burdi joining a group that includes Keone Kela, Kyle Crick, Clay Holmes, and Michael Feliz, on the injured list, Pittsburghs bullpen construction is completely up in the air. Owners will want to keep an eye on how the Bucs roll out their arms over the next few days to get a read on how manager Derek Shelton will manage a bullpen decimated by injuries.

Nick Burdi Looks To Be Back

Pittsburgh Pirates relief pitcher Nick Burdi looked dominant in his first outing of the 2020 season on Sunday when he struck out all three hitters he faced, including Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and shortstop Paul DeJong. The 27-year-old hard-throwing right-hander missed all of the 2019 season after undergoing surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome, which can be a very tough injury to come back from successfully. He was impressing earlier this spring as well, so there is a chance that he could eventually be featured in some save situations -- the Pirates were up 5-1 in the ninth when he faced St. Louis -- especially with Keone Kela currently on the injured list. Kyle Crick is at the top of the closer committee right now, with Richard Rodriguez and Michael Feliz also in the most. But Burdi is definitely one to watch in deeper leagues.

Nick Burdi Looks Amazing

Pittsburgh Pirates relief pitcher Nick Burdi was impressive in spring training earlier this year and has picked up where he left off in summer camp workouts. He looks amazing, starting pitcher Jameson Taillon said. No matter how many injuries this dudes had, he still throws 100 mph. His sliders still disgusting. Burdi had Tommy John surgery in 2017 and then had surgery to relieve symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome last year. But he's back on the mound and is hitting triple digits with his heater, and he also has a swing-and-miss slider. Burdi has a chance to play a key role in Pittsburgh's bullpen in 2020, but he's off the fantasy radar for now.
