Red Sox Going for Either Alex Bregman or Pete Alonso?

MLB Network's Jon Morosi says that he thinks the Boston Red Sox will "either bring back Alex Bregman" or "make an all-out pursuit of Pete Alonso." Morosi likes Boston's "chances to get one or the other." "I believe the Red Sox are the strongest contender of anyone to take Pete Alonso away from the New York Mets," Morosi added. The BoSox will be on the market for a starting pitcher this winter, too, but Morosi thinks it will be a big priority to try and bring Bregman back after his strong season in 2025 in Beantown. In 114 games last year, Bregman hit .273 with 18 homers, 62 RBI, an .821 OPS, and a 3.5 WAR, while Alonso hit .272 with 38 bombs, 126 RBI, an .871 OPS, and a 3.4 WAR in 162 games. Alonso has the clear edge in the power department, but Bregman is more versatile on defense and is still an above-average defender at third base. Both players opted out of their deals with their respective teams following the World Series, and both share the same agent in Scott Boras.

Orioles Could be in the Mix to Sign Pete Alonso

The New York Post's Jon Heyman says that free-agent first baseman Pete Alonso is still a priority for the New York Mets, but he's also reporting that the Baltimore Orioles could be in the mix to sign him. The Mets are saying that they are looking to change their culture and want to prioritize run prevention, but Heyman doesn't think they can afford to lose Alonso's 38 home runs and 126 RBI. The Orioles are a surprise suitor because they have not really been linked to Alonso to this point. Reports have suggested that if Alonso does leave the Big Apple, the best fit for him could be the Boston Red Sox. In Baltimore, the O's are definitely looking to shake things up after a disappointing 2025 season, and Alonso would be a major upgrade at first base (at least offensively) over Ryan Mountcastle and Coby May. Although Alonso will be on the wrong side of 30 in 2026, the five-time All-Star is still an elite power bat with 264 homers in his seven major-league seasons.

Mets Expected to Let Pete Alonso Walk in Free Agency

The New York Mets are expected to let free-agent first baseman Pete Alonso walk this offseason "unless he signs a deal they can't turn down," according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports. President of baseball operations David Stearns was ready to let Alonso walk last year before they ultimately brought him back. The 30-year-old right-handed slugger had another monster year in 2025 with a .272 average, 38 home runs, a league-leading 41 doubles, 126 RBI, and 87 runs scored in 162 games, but it wasn't enough to help the Mets make the playoffs. The Mets are preaching defense and run prevention going forward, and Alonso's weakness is his defense at first base. After missing the postseason, the Mets are reportedly looking for a culture shift without Alonso and several other position players going into 2026. General managers are predicting that the perfect landing spot for Alonso this offseason might be the Boston Red Sox.

Pete Alonso Officially Opts Out of his Contract With Mets

As expected, New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso officially opted out of his deal with the Mets on Monday and is now a free agent, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Alonso was a free agent last offseason as well and didn't find what he was looking for on the open market, eventually re-signing in the Big Apple for two years and $54 million. The 30-year-old veteran right-handed slugger is once again a free agent after opting out of the second year of the contract. Alonso, the former National League Rookie of the Year in 2019, has been an All-Star each of the last four seasons and has had at least 34 home runs each year in that span. In 162 games in 2025, Alonso clubbed 38 home runs, drove in 126, and had a league-high 41 doubles while slashing .272/.347/.524 in 709 plate appearances. Alonso is still one of the premier sluggers in the game and should be an elite source of power in fantasy, regardless of where he ends up.

Pete Alonso to Opt Out of Contract and Enter Free Agency

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso may no longer be a Met, as he plans to opt out of his contract and enter free agency, reports Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. He signed a two-year deal for $54 million prior to the season, but he is ultimately choosing to opt out of his $24 million expected payment for 2026. The 30-year-old should be able to score a lucrative contract on the free agent market, as he is coming off a season where he slashed .272/.347/.524 with 38 home runs, 126 RBI, and 87 runs. The announcement is coming sooner than many expected, but the Mets shockingly missed the playoffs after a late-season collapse.

Pete Alonso Returns to Mets Lineup

As expected, New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso (hand) is back at first base and is hitting cleanup for the Mets in the series opener at Citi Field on Monday against the visiting Los Angeles Angels and left-hander Tyler Anderson. Alonso didn't start for the first time all year in Sunday's win over the Cincinnati Reds, but he did appear as a defensive replacement late in the contest to maintain his streak of games played. The 30-year-old All-Star needs to be returned to all fantasy lineups, even though he's been cold so far in July. Alonso is hitting .222 with a home run and two RBI in nine career at-bats against Anderson. Alonso hasn't homered since July 8 and has gone 9-for-51 (.176) with three homers, two doubles, 12 RBI and a 13:9 K:BB in 15 games so far this month. Despite being cold of late, Alonso is a must-start slugger in fantasy.

Pete Alonso Expected to Return on Monday

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso (hand) didn't start Sunday's series finale against the Cincinnati Reds due to a right-hand contusion, but he did enter the game in the seventh inning to continue his consecutive games streak. The Athletic's Tim Britton writes that Alonso is expected to start on Monday in the series opener versus the visiting Los Angeles Angels. The 30-year-old All-Star took over for Mark Vientos late in Sunday's game at first base as a defensive replacement and did not get an a-bat. Alonso is currently leading the league with 26 doubles and is also hitting a strong .275 (102-for-371) with 21 home runs, 77 RBI and 53 runs scored in 100 games played in 2025. However, he's been cold in the month of July to this point, going 9-for-51 (.176) with three homers, two doubles, 12 RBI, nine walks and 13 strikeouts in 15 games.

Pete Alonso Out Sunday With "Right-Hand Contusion"

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso (hand) has a "right-hand contusion" near the base of his thumb, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. The good news is that X-rays came back negative, and although he's not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Cincinnati Reds, he could be available off the bench. It's the first time that Alonso has been out of the lineup since May 30 of 2024. If he doesn't come in later in the game, it would snap his franchise-record streak of 353 straight games played, per MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. Mark Vientos will start at first base and bat cleanup against Reds left-hander Andrew Abbott on Sunday. If Alonso doesn't appear in Sunday's contest, his next chance to play would be on Monday in the series opener at Citi Field against the visiting Los Angeles Angels. Fantasy managers will want to check back then.

Pete Alonso Launches Three-Run Homer In Mid-Summer Classic

He did not participate in Monday's Home Run Derby, but New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso made sure to get in on the action in Tuesday's All-Star Game, which resulted in the National League team winning a 6-6 tie on a 4-3 home run swing-off. Alonso went 1-for-2 with a three-run HR. The 30-year-old lined a sixth-inning Kris Bubic fastball to the opposite field, depositing it in the right-field seats to put the NL team up 5-0. The Polar Bear put together a strong first half, slashing .280/.376/.532 with 21 HR, 53 runs scored, and 77 RBI in 423 plate appearances. He has managed to provide his trademark high-end power while also maintaining what would be a career-high batting average.

Pete Alonso Blasts Two Homers in Win

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso had a big game at the plate during Saturday's contest against the New York Yankees. Alonso blasted a two-run home run off Carlos Rodon in the fifth inning. He wasn't done as he smacked a three-run shot off Jayvien Sandridge in the seventh inning. Alonso finished this game 2-for-4 with two homers, five RBI, and one walk in the blowout win. The right-handed slugger has a four-game hitting streak and is currently third in the league with 73 RBI right now. Alonso looks like he's single handedly going to get the Mets out of this slump.
