Robby Snelling Heading To The Fish

The Miami Marlins acquired pitching prospect Robby Snelling from the San Diego Padres on Tuesday in the package that sent lefty closer Tanner Scott to the Friars. In addition to Snelling, the Marlins also landed pitcher Adam Mazur, infielder/outfielder Graham Pauley and second baseman Jay Beshears. Snelling, who was considered SD's No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline, is only 20 years old. The left-hander was already at Double-A but had struggled to the tune of a 6.01 ERA and 1.68 WHIP with 67 strikeouts and 33 walks in 73 1/3 innings in the Texas League over 16 starts. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound former 39th overall pick is going to need to show more consistency in the minors but has the stuff to reach the big leagues for the rebuilding Marlins as soon as next year. Snelling works mainly off a three-pitch combo of a fastball, curveball and changeup.

Robby Snelling Looking Better In July

To start the 2024 season, San Diego Padres starting pitcher prospect Robby Snelling has struggled with Double-A San Antonio. At the end of June, he had a 6.49 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, and 49:27 KBB. Fortunately, he's off to a good start in July. Through his first two outings, he's got a 3.86 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and 14:3 K/BB. While the WHIP is still alarmingly high, Snelling has done a better job limiting runs. San Diego's #2 prospect (per MLB.com), he's expected to make his MLB debut at some point in 2025.

Robby Snelling Struggles In June

At the end of May, San Diego Padres starting pitcher prospect Robby Snelling had a 5.14 ERA and 36:20 K/BB ratio in 42 innings. Looking to bounce back in June, he started the month with consecutive quality starts and 11 total strikeouts. However, his next two starts resulted in 14 earned runs in just seven innings. Overall, the 20-year-old lefty has a 6.49 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, and 49:27 K/BB in 61 innings this season. San Diego's #2 prospect (per MLB.com), Snelling is currently with Double-A San Antonio and is expected to make his MLB debut at some point in 2025.

Robby Snelling Reaches Six Innings In Past Two Starts

San Diego Padres starting pitching prospect Robby Snelling has tossed six innings in consecutive outings for the first time in his professional career. Snelling has done well in Double-A this season with a 3.44 ERA and 1.29 WHIP but has flashed at times by allowing just one run in four out of his seven starts. The 20-year-old southpaw showcased his elite strikeout potential with a 118:34 K:BB ratio last season across Single, High, and Double-A but has fallen a bit short through the young part of this season with a 30:14 K:BB ratio. Snelling is considered the top left-handed pitching prospect on MLB Pipeline and is projected to reach the majors next season. Despite his drop in strikeouts, he remains one of the best prospects in baseball and a valuable asset in all dynasty formats.

Robby Snelling Tosses Five No-Hit Frames

San Diego Padres starting pitcher Robby Snelling was the 39th overall pick in 2022, joining the organization on an above-slot deal after dominating the Nevada prep circuit. The 6-foot-3 southpaw has already touched 97 mph with his fastball, and given the fact that he's just 19 years old, he should gain additional velocity over the next few years. His slider is also quite advanced for his age, though he needs to develop his changeup as a solid tertiary offering in order to be a reliable rotation option long-term. The teenage hurler was brilliant in August, earning a promotion midway through the month and allowing just four runs over 24.2 innings of work. He was particularly impressive during his final outing on Aug. 30 in which he tossed five no-hit innings. He issued nine strikeouts while walking three batters en route to earning the win.

Robby Snelling Deals Five Hitless Innings

San Diego Padres pitching prospect Robby Snelling tossed five no-hit innings, issuing three walks and striking out nine hitters during his most recent outing with Double-A San Antonio. The 19-year-old now owns an outstanding 1.80 ERA through 20 starts across three minor-league levels this season. Snelling already ranks as the Padres' top pitching prospect and the No. 64 overall prospect in baseball, per MLB Pipeline. He features a 60-grade slider, complemented by a fastball that sits in the mid-90s and a developing changeup. Snelling has carved up each level of the minors he's faced and may ascend to the majors much quicker than initially expected. He won't debut any time soon, but dynasty managers should certainly be familiar with Snelling.

Robby Snelling Cruises To Third Win

San Diego Padres pitching prospect Robby Snelling is a talented, youth southpaw who was selected 39th overall in the 2022 MLB Draft. The 19-year-old consistently lands his fastball in the mid-90s, and that could prove to be a lethal pitch that induces plenty of whiffs once he reaches the upper levels of pro ball. Snelling also gets swings and misses with a tremendous, vertically-breaking curveball, giving him a great option with which he can bolster his repertoire. Finally, he is developing a changeup that, at the very least, offers a fine change of pace. Snelling had a great start on Friday, allowing zero runs, one hit, and one walk over five innings of work. Best of all, he struck out nine batters and earned his third consecutive win. Dynasty managers should continue to monitor Snelling as he takes the mound in the minors.
