Roman Anthony to Have a Normal Offseason

Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said on Monday that outfield prospect Roman Anthony (oblique) is asymptomatic and is expected to have a normal offseason, according to The Boston Globe. Anthony, one of the team's top prospects, strained his left oblique in early September, missed the rest of the regular season, and was unavailable in the playoffs. The 21-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder should be full-go for spring training and the start of the 2026 season, though, and will be a starter from the get-go in his first full season in the big leagues. Anthony, a former second-rounder in 2022, was as advertised in his first year in the majors in 2025, slashing .292/.396/.463 with an .859 OPS, eight home runs, 32 RBI, 48 runs, and four steals in 257 at-bats after making his debut on June 9. He is not going to come cheap in fantasy drafts next spring.

Roman Anthony Still Not Ready to Begin Baseball Activities

Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony (oblique) will head to Florida to continue rehabbing from a strained left oblique, according to Christopher Smith of MassLive.com. However, Anthony said Sunday that there's still no timetable for him to start baseball activities. Although the Red Sox have gone without the rookie sensation since placing him on the 10-day injured list on Sept. 3, they still managed to earn a playoff berth in his absence. The club is now gearing up to take on the archrival New York Yankees in a best-of-three wild-card series. If Boston knocks off New York, it'll begin an ALDS series on Oct. 4, though it seems optimistic to expect Anthony back by then. In 71 games and 303 plate appearances this season, the 21-year-old slashed .292/.396/.463 with eight homers, 32 RBI, 48 runs scored, and four stolen bases.

Roman Anthony Progresses to "Power Walk" on Treadmill

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that rookie outfielder Roman Anthony (oblique) has graduated from walking on a treadmill to a "power walk," according to Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald. Anthony has already been out three-plus weeks with a strained left oblique, and the fact that he has yet to resume baseball activities means he probably isn't going to be available for the wild-card series next week if the Red Sox clinch a wild-card spot in the American League in the final series of the regular season this weekend. Not having the 21-year-old outfielder available would be a serious blow to Boston's playoff hopes as an underdog, as he was hitting a strong .292 (75-for-257) with eight long balls, 32 RBI, 48 runs scored, and four steals in his first 71 games before the injury. Ceddanne Rafaela will remain in center field for the BoSox with Anthony out.

Roman Anthony Not Close to Doing Baseball Activities?

It does not appear that Boston Red Sox rookie outfielder Roman Anthony (oblique) is close to resuming baseball activities, according to chief baseball officer Craig Breslow. "Yeah, but just like being around him a little bit, you can see he's getting more comfortable. When it first happened, you could look at him and tell that he was in quite a bit of discomfort and pain. That has subsided, but there's still quite a bit of room to get to in terms of baseball activity," Breslow said. At this point with less than a week left in the regular season, the BoSox are just hoping that the 21-year-old can rejoin the team for the postseason if they qualify. Anthony has been on the injured list since Sept. 3 with an oblique injury. Boston has had a losing record since losing the outfield prospect, who was hitting a cool .292 (75-for-257) with eight home runs, 32 RBI, 48 runs, and four steals in his first 71 big-league games.

Roman Anthony Not Close to Returning

Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony (oblique) is walking on a treadmill and is riding an exercise bike, but he has yet to resume baseball activities while recovering from an oblique strain, according to Conor Ryan of Boston.com. The 21-year-old landed on the injured list on Sept. 3, and it remains to be seen if he'll be able to rejoin the team before the end of the regular season in September. The BoSox could really use his help, as they've really struggled as a team since he went down, but they are not going to rush one of their best young players back too soon. The main goal for Boston will be to have Anthony ready to go if they can clinch a wild-card spot in the American League. The former second-round pick in 2022 looked great in his first 71 big-league games before getting hurt, going 75-for-257 (.292) with eight homers, 32 RBI, 48 runs, and four stolen bases.

Roman Anthony Officially Goes on Injured List

The Boston Red Sox announced on Wednesday that they officially placed outfielder Roman Anthony (oblique) on the 10-day injured list with a left-oblique strain and recalled infielder/outfielder Nick Sogard from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move. Anthony injured himself on a swing during Tuesday's game against the Cleveland Guardians and could end up missing the rest of the regular season, with manager Alex Cora saying he could be out for four to six weeks. It's a tough blow for a Red Sox team in firm playoff contention, as the 21-year-old outfield prospect has hit the ground running after making his MLB debut earlier this year. The Red Sox will piece things together in the month of September with Rob Refsnyder and Masataka Yoshida likely working in a platoon, at least until Wilyer Abreu (calf) returns from his own IL stint.

"High Probability" Roman Anthony Lands on Injured List

There is a "high probability" that the Boston Red Sox place rookie outfielder Roman Anthony (oblique) on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday, a source told Chris Cotillo of Mass Live. Infielder Nick Sogard is expected to take Anthony's place on the active MLB roster after an MRI exam showed a left-oblique injury. The 21-year-old left-handed hitter injured himelf on a strikout in Tuesday's game at Fenway Park against the Cleveland Guardians and now appears set to miss time. He will be eligible to return on Sept. 13, but given the nature of his injury, it's likely he'll need more time. Wilyer Abreu (calf) is still on the IL himself, so Rob Refsnyder and Masataka Yoshida will likely platoon in the third outfield spot for Boston until Abreu is able to return. It's also possible that Boston uses Kristian Campbell in the outfield. Anthony needs to be stashed in all fantasy formats. UPDATE: "He's going on the IL. He has an oblique strain. Timetable, we don't know... Usually takes from 4-6 weeks," manager Alex Cora said.

Roman Anthony Will Undergo MRI on Wednesday

Boston Red Sox young superstar Roman Anthony (oblique) was removed from Tuesday's game against the Cleveland Guardians with left oblique tightness, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. He is set to undergo an MRI on Wednesday. Anthony said he initially felt tightness on a check swing during the same at-bat before striking out in the fourth inning, and he proceeded not to take the field in the fifth. "He's sore," manager Alex Cora said. When asked about his concern level, Anthony replied, "I'm not really sure. I'll see tomorrow, after the MRI." At this time, Anthony should be considered day-to-day, and fantasy managers will want to keep their eyes open for the MRI results. Timing couldn't be worse for fantasy managers with the fantasy playoffs going on, and the Red Sox, as they are in a tight AL East and AL Wild Card race. Nate Eaton entered the game for Anthony and could see additional playing time should he miss any extra time.

Roman Anthony Leaves Early With Back Injury

Boston Red Sox rookie outfielder Roman Anthony (back) left Tuesday's game early against the Cleveland Guardians at Fenway Park with an apparent back injury, according to Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald. Before Anthony was replaced in right field by Nate Eaton, he went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a strikeout out of the leadoff spot. The 21-year-old looked uncomfortable after striking out in the fourth inning and hit the showers early. We should have an update on Anthony before long as to the seriousness of his back injury, but the BoSox can ill-afford to lose one of the best prospects in baseball in the middle of a pennant race in the final month of the regular season. He has hit a cool .291 (74-for-254) with eight homers, 31 RBI and four steals in his first 70 big-league games. Veteran Rob Refsnyder could see more playing time if Anthony misses extended time.

Roman Anthony Blasts Another Home Run on Wednesday

Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony continued to stay hot at the plate on Wednesday evening during their victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Anthony went 1-for-4 with a leadoff home run off Baltimore starter, left-hander Dietrich Enns. Over his last 11 contests, the former No. 1-overall ranked prospect in the sport has flashed immense upside, holding a dominant .326/.373/.565 line with a .938 OPS. During this stretch, Anthony has tallied two doubles and launched three home runs. Throughout his first 65 games in Boston, Anthony has held a .286/.396/.462 line with seven home runs and four stolen bases. However, under the hood, he carries a remarkable .386 xwOBA, which suggests he should continue to improve in the second half. He remains a must-start option in all formats going forward.
