Shelby Miller Undergoes Elbow Surgery

Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Shelby Miller (elbow) recently underwent surgery to repair the UCL and flexor tendon in his right elbow. Miller was hopeful to avoid surgery, but sadly he wasn't able to do that. This means Miller will likely miss most of the 2026 campaign. He posted a 2.74 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and a 54/15 K/BB ratio across 48 appearances between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Brewers this season. The 35-year-old is set to hit free agency this winter. We'll see what kind of interest he draws considering he might miss all of 2026.

Shelby Miller to Undergo Elbow Surgery

Milwaukee Brewers reliever Shelby Miller (elbow) will undergo surgery to repair a damaged UCL in his right elbow on Sept. 29. It's unclear if Miller will have Tommy John surgery, though there was optimism a couple of weeks ago that he would not require a full UCL repair. If he undergoes a more minor procedure, Miller could return to the mound sometime in 2026. Miller's 2025 season came to an end when a UCL sprain sent him to the injured list on Sept. 2. Between Arizona and Milwaukee, the 34-year-old logged a 2.74 ERA with a 1.04 WHIP, 54:15 K:BB, 10 saves, and nine holds in 46 innings. Miller is set to become a free agent in the offseason, further clouding his future.

Shelby Miller May Not Require Tommy John Surgery

Milwaukee Brewers reliever Shelby Miller (elbow) received encouraging news on his injured right elbow during a visit with Dr. Keith Meister, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. While Miller will need to undergo surgery, he may not require a full UCL repair. If that's the case, Miller could return late next year. Otherwise, Tommy John surgery would wipe out Miller's 2026 campaign, and the soon-to-be 35-year-old recently acknowledged it could lead him to retire. For now, there's still hope for Miller to continue his career. While Miller struggled after the Brewers acquired him from the Arizona Diamondbacks at the July 31 trade deadline, he still posted quality numbers in 2025. Over 48 appearances and 46 innings, he put up a 2.74 ERA with a 1.04 WHIP, 54:15 K:BB, 10 saves, and nine holds.

Shelby Miller Likely to Require Tommy John Surgery

Milwaukee Brewers reliever Shelby Miller (elbow) will "likely" require Tommy John surgery on his injured right UCL, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Miller's season ended abruptly when the team placed him on the 60-day injured list with a sprained UCL on Wednesday, and the next step is to visit renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Keith Meister for a second opinion when the Brewers go to Texas next week. If Meister confirms that Miller needs Tommy John surgery for the second time in his career, it would probably shelve him until 2027. Miller, who will turn 35 next month, could decide to retire as a result. "Probably not going to play if (surgery) is the route we go," Miller said. "So, we'll see where I'm at." Miller showed he had plenty left in the tank before the injury cut him down, which makes this situation especially unfortunate. Between Arizona and Milwaukee, he logged 46 innings of 2.74 ERA ball with a 1.04 WHIP, 54:15 K:BB, 10 saves, and nine holds. Miller is due to become a free agent in the offseason, but instead of going through an arduous rehab and seeking a new contract, he may call it a career.

Shelby Miller to Miss Rest of 2025 Season

Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Shelby Miller (elbow) was placed on the 60-day injured list on Wednesday. MIller suffered a right UCL sprain during Monday's outing against the Philadelphia Phillies. At the moment, it's unclear if Miller will require surgery or only need to rest and recover. Regardless, Miller won't take the mound again in 2025. Joel Payamps figures to take over his role in the bullpen. He'll finish the season with a 2.74 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 54/15 K/BB ratio across 48 games between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Brewers. The 34-year-old is set to become a free agent after the season, but his value will be dependent on whether or not he'll require surgery on his elbow.

Shelby Miller Leaves Early With Elbow Injury

Milwaukee Brewers reliever Shelby Miller (elbow) left a 10-8 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies early on Monday after feeling a pop in his right elbow, manager Pat Murphy said. Miller entered a 6-6 game to pitch the top of the eighth inning, but he had to come out after allowing back-to-back hits. Those runners ended up scoring, so Miller was charged with giving up two ER without recording an out. The 34-year-old, whom the Brewers acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 31, has still pitched to a more-than-respectable 2.74 ERA with a 1.04 WHIP and 54:15 K:BB in 46 innings this season. Unfortunately, though, Miller could end up back on the 15-day injured list after missing most of July and the first week of August because of a forearm strain. Miller came off the IL to make his debut with the Brewers on Aug. 9. Since then, he has coughed up six earned runs on nine hits and notched 14 strikeouts against four walks over 9 2/3 frames.

Shelby Miller Back From Injured List, Ready for Brewers Debut

The Milwaukee Brewers announced on Friday that they reinstated right-handed reliever Shelby Miller (forearm) from the 15-day injured list and sent left-hander Robert Gasser (elbow) to Triple-A Nashville on a minor-league rehab start in a corresponding move. Miller was acquired by the Brewers to bolster their bullpen at the July 31 trade deadline but has yet to make his debut with his new club. Prior to the trade and his injury, the veteran right-handed had become the Diamondbacks' primary closer in the desert. Miller has been great this year with a 1.98 ERA, 10 saves and eight holds in his 36 1/3 innings, but he figures to lose plenty of fantasy appeal with the move to Milwaukee because he'll likely serve in a late-inning setup role in front of closer Trevor Megill. Still, Miller will continue to have value in holds leagues if he continues to pitch like he was before his forearm setback.

Shelby Miller Starting Rehab Assignment

Milwaukee Brewers right-handed reliever Shelby Miller (forearm) was sent on a minor-league rehab assignment on Tuesday with Triple-A Nashville, according to the team. Miller is working his way back from a strained right forearm, but barring a setback on his rehab assignment, he could join his new team soon after the Arizona Diamondbacks traded him at last week's deadline. With Trevor Megill entrenched as the team's primary closer in Milwaukee, the 34-year-old Miller is going to lose considerable fantasy value with the move to his new team, although he should still be in play in leagues that count holds in a high-leverage, late-inning setup role. Miller has had an excellent season with the D-backs, posting a 1.98 ERA (3.14 FIP), a 0.96 WHIP, a career-high 10 saves and a 40:11 K:BB in 36 1/3 innings pitched in 2025.

Brewers Acquire Shelby Miller

The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired right-hander Shelby Miller from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Miller is currently on the 15-day injured list with a forearm injury. However, the right-hander recently began participating in bullpen sessions, suggesting he is nearing a return. Before his injury, Miller was enjoying a productive campaign in the desert. Through 36 1/3 innings of work, Miller has posted an impressive 1.98 ERA with a strong 0.96 WHIP. Miller has also seen occasional save opportunities as well, with both A.J. Puk and Justin Martinez on the injured list. Under the hood, he has generated a 77th percentile xERA with a strong 30.9% K rate. In Milwaukee, fantasy managers should expect Miller to operate as a top setup man alongside Abner Uribe. Trevor Megill should continue to see the bulk of the save opportunities.

Shelby Miller Could Face Hitters Again on Friday

Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said that there's a good chance that right-hander Shelby Miller (back, forearm) and left-hander Jalen Beeks (back) will throw to live hitters on Friday. Miller had his session against live hitters cut short on Tuesday after only 16 pitches due to back tightness, but the fact that the 34-year-old could throw again in a few days means the D-backs aren't particularly concerned about his back ailment. Miller went on the 15-day injured list in early July with a strained right forearm. It's unclear if Arizona will require him to go on a minor-league rehab assignment if he comes out of Friday's session without any issues. When Miller is back, he should immediately return to being the team's primary closer in the wake of all the injuries to their bullpen arms in 2025. Anthony DeSclafani picked up the last save on Sunday, but Kevin Ginkel could see chances, too, until Miller returns.
