Team News
Dodgers Interested In Blake Treinen

The Los Angeles Dodgers are interested in relief pitcher Blake Treinen, according to a source. Treinen was non-tendered by the A's on Monday after he had a rough year with Oakland, posting a 4.91 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, 59 strikeouts and 16 saves in 58 2/3 innings. The 31-year-old right-hander was the best reliever in baseball in 2018 and picked up his first All-Star selection when he had a microscopic 0.78 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, a career-high 11.2 K/9 and 38 saves for the A's. He could easily bounce back in 2020, and Los Angeles would be a great spot to do it as a setup man for closer Kenley Jansen. Treinen might not have an avenue to consistent save chances next year, but he could be very attractive in leagues that count holds.

A's Non-Tender Blake Treinen, Josh Phegley

The Oakland Athletics non-tendered relief pitcher Blake Treinen and catcher Josh Phegley on Monday, making them both free agents. Treinen was one of the best closers in baseball in 2018, but he fell flat in 2019 and lost the closing gig to Liam Hendriks. Treinen posted an ugly 4.91 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, 59 K's and 16 saves in 58 2/3 frames. He'll now be one of the most attractive relievers on the open market, and teams will be hoping that he can bounce back from his 2019 hiccup. Phegley hit .239/.282/.411 with 12 home runs and 62 RBI as Oakland's primary catcher last season. He'll likely compete for a backup role wherever he lands, giving him minimal fantasy value.

Yankees Interested In Blake Treinen

The New York Yankees are one of the teams interested in trading for Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Blake Treinen, according to sources. The A's could facilitate a trade with Treinen, who is a non-tender candidate this offseason. The 31-year-old's stock is way down after he posted a 4.91 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 16 saves in 58 2/3 innings after losing the closer's job to Liam Hendriks. That came after he was one of the best closers in baseball in 2018, sporting a microscopic 0.78 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, 11.2 K/9 and career-high 38 saves in 80 1/3 innings. His fantasy stock will also be down going into 2020 without a clear path to saves in Oakland or elsewhere. If he were to land in the Bronx, he'd strictly be a setup man ahead of closer Aroldis Chapman.

Sean Murphy Has Knee Surgery

Oakland Athletics catching prospect Sean Murphy (knee) underwent surgery to smooth out meniscus issues in his left knee, but he will be ready for spring training in 2020. Murphy, listed as Oakland's No. 3 prospect and No. 43 in baseball, hit .308/.386/.625 with 10 homers and 30 RBI in 31 games for Triple-A Las Vegas last year before hitting four home runs in 20 September games in the big leagues. He has all the makings of the team's starting catcher next season if he can just stay healthy. At a weak position, Murphy should immediately have value in most leagues if he's playing every day for the A's.

Franklin Barreto Will Make Wild-Card Roster

Oakland Athletics second basemanFranklin Barreto will make the wild-card roster for Wednesday's game against the Rays, according to a source. Barreto will be an option off the bench as a pinch-runner like he was in last year's wild-card game. The 23-year-old Venezuelan had just 57 at-bats with the A's this year and hit .138/.263/.401 with two homers, six runs and five stolen bases. He did steal one base as well. Barreto is unlikely to get any starts in the postseason if the A's advance past Tampa Bay, and if he does, he won't be much of a DFS option.
