Zach Dezenzo Sent Back To Triple-A

The Houston Astros optioned infield prospect Zach Dezenzo back to Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday to make room on the active roster for the return of All-Star outfielder Kyle Tucker (shin) in his return from the 60-day injured list. Dezenzo, the club's No. 5 prospect per MLB Pipeline, will head back to the minors for more development after looking overmatched at the plate in his first 17 major-league contests. In 55 plate appearances, he went 11-for-52 (.212) with a homer, two doubles, six RBI, three walks and 18 strikeouts. The 24-year-old stands at 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds understandably is intriguing for his raw power and has the ability to hit 30-plus home runs over a full season. However, high strikeout rates in the minors as well mean he probably isn't going to be much of an average guy at the next level. Because of his size and lack of quickness, a move to third base eventually is expected.

Zach Dezenzo Making Another Start At First Base On Sunday

Houston Astros first base prospect Zach Dezenzo is making another start at first base on Sunday afternoon. The 24-year-old has made three so far through his first four major league games. As a result, Jon Singleton will once again be sitting on the bench. Through his first taste of the big leagues, Dezenzo has posted a .313 AVG with a double and a home run. Since July 21, Singleton has held a modest .220 AVG with only two long balls and one double. Fantasy managers should continue to keep an eye on the Houston starting nine, as the Ohio State product could be overtaking starting duties in the Space City. Dezenzo is worth a look in DFS this afternoon as he will face Boston southpaw James Paxton who carries a high 4.42 ERA.

Zach Dezenzo Called Up To Majors

The Houston Astros have called up infielder Zach Dezenzo from Triple-A Sugar Land. The team's fourth-best prospect according to MLB Pipeline, Dezenzo hit .391/.472/.739 with eight extra-base hits in 11 games after being called up from Double-A Corpus Christi. Dezenzo, who can play second and third base, is hitting .306/.386/.517 with six homers, 24 RBI, 25 runs scored, and five steals in the minors. Fantasy managers should look at how the Astros use Dezenzo as the team continues struggling to generate offense from the bottom half of the batting order.

Zach Dezenzo Remarkable Through First Look At Triple-A

Houston Astros outfield prospect Zach Dezenzo has posted an incredible .455/.500/.818 slash line with two home runs, six RBI, one stolen base, and a 2:5 BB:K ratio through his first five games at Triple-A. Dezenzo wasted little time as he tallied at least three hits in his first three games with a big four RBI day in his first game. The Ohio State product needed only 85 games at the Double-A level split between the past two seasons to reach Triple-A. The former 12th-round selection could push for a late-season major league debut if he continues to perform at a high level at Triple-A Sugar Land.

Zach Dezenzo Has Big Triple-A Debut

Houston Astros second base/third base prospect Zach Dezenzo made a mark in his debut for Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday. Dezenzo went 3-for-4 in the contest with a two-run home run and four RBI. The 24-year-old is currently the No. 4 prospect for the Astros per MLB Pipeline, but has missed plenty of time this season with a wrist injury. In his limited action with Double-A Corpus Christi, Dezenzo was hitting .222 with two homers and seven RBI in 22 contests. When at the top of his game, Dezenzo shows that could be a good power bat in the future and hit 18 homers between High-A Asheville and Corpus Christi in 2023. There is a chance that he could see some action with the big-league squad this summer, but he won't hold much value outside of dynasty leagues for now.

Zach Dezenzo Promoted To Triple-A

Houston Astros third base prospect Zach Dezenzo is being promoted to Triple-A Sugar Land, according to MiLB Central. Dezenzo has dealt with a lingering wrist injury all season, which has limited his playing time. Through 22 games at Double-A this season, the former 12th-round selection has held a .222/.308/.370 line with two home runs, seven RBI, and a 9:23 BB:K ratio. However, last summer, the Ohio State product split time at High and Double-A and held an excellent .304/.383/.531 slash line with 18 home runs, 61 RBI, and 22 swiped bags. Dezenzo is considered the fourth-best prospect in the Houston system on MLB.com and is worth keeping a close eye on, as he could push for a late-season major league debut.

Zach Dezenzo Sent On Rehab Assignment

Houston Astros infield prospect Zach Dezenzo (wrist) was sent on his rehab assignment on Monday. The team's No. 4 prospect will begin his assignment at the Rookie-level Florida Complex League. In 2023, Dezenzo split his time between High-A Asheville and Double-A Corpus Christ where he combined to hit .304 with 18 homers, 61 RBI and 22 stolen bases. Dezenzo has shown good pop in his bat throughout his career, but he has also struggled with off-speed pitches and plate discipline. These are issues that could hopefully be corrected on the farm and if they do, Dezenzo could be an option to replace free-agent to be Alex Bregman at third base in 2025. He remains an option in only dynasty leagues for now.

Zach Dezenzo Limited With Wrist Injury

Houston Astros infielder Zach Dezenzo (wrist), the team's No. 5 prospect per MLB Pipeline, was limited in major-league camp during spring training with a wrist injury and remains on a slow rehab plan. Dezenzo appeared in 31 games last year at High-A Asheville and 63 games for Double-A Corpus Christi, where he hit .257 with 14 home runs and 41 RBI as a third baseman. The 24-year-old opened the year on Corpus Christi's seven-day injured list. Despite the power he displayed at Double-A last year, Dezenzo also struck out nearly 30 percent of the time. He has above-average raw power from the right side of the plate that could allow him to hit 30-plus home runs over a full season. Dezenzo's primary goal right now is just getting healthy, though.
