Ashton Jeanty to Have a Bigger Role in the Passing Game

Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty had a solid rookie season, totaling over 1,000 yards rushing and receiving while scoring 10 total touchdowns. According to reports out of training camp by ESPN's Dan Graziano, the team is looking to get him even more involved as a receiver out of the backfield. Last year, he hauled in 55 catches on 73 targets for 346 yards and five receiving scores, but his elusiveness in space and big-play ability on the edges could lead to even more production in his second season for the No. 6 overall pick from Boise State. Jeanty has a lofty Yahoo fantasy ADP of 13.6, but he has league-winning upside if his role expands, and the Raiders' offense takes a step forward under new coach Klint Kubiak with improved quarterback play this season. He won't come cheap in most drafts, but with more work in the passing game, he has an extremely high ceiling.

Ashton Jeanty Eyeing Big Year 2 Jump

As a rookie in 2025, Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty ran for 975 yards while adding 55 receptions and 346 yards through the air, but he understands that the bar will be raised even higher in Year 2. Jeanty recently told reporters, "It's always tough being in the first year trying to figure out so much stuff... But this year, there's a lot of expectations for me, and I think I've got to make a big jump." The sixth overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, Jeanty spent his rookie season operating behind one of the worst offensive lines in the league, gaining only 1.6 yards per attempt before contact, but improvements across the line and a new coaching staff should see him better positioned to make more plays in space. Jeanty is RotoBaller's RB7, but if the Raiders can find themselves in enough positive game scripts, he has a legitimate chance to crack the top five of the position.

Ashton Jeanty in Better Shape Ahead of Year 2

In speaking with Bryant McFadden of NFL on CBS, Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty shared that he's cut candy and sugar from his diet while working to build up his cardio ahead of his second season. The 2025 first-round pick told McFadden, "I didn't feel like I was in good enough shape last year." As a rookie, Jeanty handled an impressive 86.6% of the Raiders' running back rush share, having to fight for every inch behind a porous offensive line that allowed first contact after only 1.6 yards on average. Again expected to handle the bulk of the team's running back workload, now with an upgraded and healthier offensive line in front of him, an improved diet and better cardio could pay immense dividends, and Jeanty is potentially undervalued as RotoBaller's RB7.

An Improved Offensive Environment Could Make Ashton Jeanty a League-Winner

As a rookie in 2025, Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty finished as the RB13 despite averaging only 3.7 yards per carry while working behind one of the worst offensive lines in the league. With left tackle Kolton Miller expected back at full health after playing in only four games last season and the team spending big to acquire free agent center Tyler Linderbaum, Jeanty should see a drastic improvement from the abysmal 0.6 yards before contact that he averaged on his 2025 carries. And while new head coach Klint Kubiak spent much of the early offseason espousing the values of a split backfield, the team's actions have done little to suggest that Jeanty's fantasy-friendly volume is in any real jeopardy. The team spent a Day 3 pick on running back Mike Washington Jr., and Vegas does not have a wide receiver on the roster who has ever caught more than 57 passes in a season. For reference, Jeanty caught 55 of his 68 targets as a rookie, and with only tight end Brock Bowers locked in for a healthy pass-catching role ahead of him, he could threaten for triple-digit targets in year two. With better cohesion in 2026, the Raiders offense has the potential to rise to a level just around league-average, and in such a scenario, Jeanty has the bell cow abilities to deliver a league-winning season as RotoBaller's RB7.

Ashton Jeanty Should Still Be Viewed as an Elite Dynasty Running Back

The sixth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty entered his rookie season with plenty of fantasy hype. The 22-year-old volumed his way to a solid season, recording 1,321 scrimmage yards and 10 touchdowns on 321 touches across 17 games. However, he averaged just 3.7 yards per carry and finished as the RB16 by per-game PPR scoring. While Jeanty's lack of efficiency is a bit concerning, he was working within one of the worst offensive ecosystems in 2025. The Raiders enter 2026 with a new coaching staff, an overhauled offensive line, and hope at quarterback in the form of rookie signal-caller Fernando Mendoza. Jeanty proved as a rookie that he has a three-down skill set and can absorb a heavy workload. If the changes around him in Las Vegas lead to some more holes for him to run through, Jeanty could break out as a superstar in 2026. In any dynasty league where his value has dipped below high-end RB1 status, managers should look to buy low.

Raiders Emphasizing Ashton Jeanty's Progress as Their Lead Back

Levi Edwards of the Las Vegas Raiders' official site writes that the Raiders have put an emphasis during offseason workouts to make sure running back Ashton Jeanty "thrives and continues to grow in his role as the lead back." The Raiders selected Jeanty with the sixth overall pick last year out of Boise State, and the 22-year-old impressed in his first year in the NFL, leading all rookie RBs in rushing yards (975). Nearly 60% of his yardage came after contact, though. "If I don't have to, I don't want to come off the field," Jeanty said. The second-year back is "doing all the right things" to ensure that he's a three-down workhorse in 2026, according to RBs coach Omar Young. New head coach Klint Kubiak has never had a true workhorse back leading his offenses, but that could change now that he has Jeanty at his disposal. With a new coaching staff in town and quarterbacks Kirk Cousins and Fernando Mendoza under center, Jeanty's fantasy stock is on the rise heading into his second NFL campaign. RotoBaller has him ranked as the No. 8 fantasy RB for the 2026 season.

Bigger Role Could be Coming for Ashton Jeanty in Year 2

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak hinted that second-year running back Ashton Jeanty could have a much bigger role in his offense in his second year in the league, according to Paul Gutierrez of Raiders.com. "It's important to have a quality second back, but the best player has got to play, and we've got to get them on the field as much as we can. I don't know the play-snap percentage, but you look at [49ers running back] Christian McCaffrey, his play-snap percentage is high. So, those great backs, they don't want to come off the field," Kubiak said. After he was the sixth overall pick last year out of Boise State, Jeanty's 3.7 yards-per-carry average was a disappointment in his first year in the NFL, even though he led all rookies with 975 rushing yards, 1,321 scrimmage yards, five rushing touchdowns, and five receiving TDs. He was the fifth player in league history with that many scores on the ground and through the air in his rookie campaign. The Raiders want rookie fourth-rounder Mike Washington Jr. to push Jeanty as much as possible, but Jeanty should be as close to a workhorse as it gets. Jeanty finished as the RB13 in half-PPR scoring in 2025 and is currently ranked as the No. 8 redraft RB for the upcoming 2026 season.

Ashton Jeanty a Top-Five Dynasty RB Despite Disappointing Rookie Campaign

A lot was expected of running back Ashton Jeanty in his first year in the NFL in 2025 after the Las Vegas Raiders took the Boise State product with the sixth overall pick in last year's draft. Jeanty didn't quite live up to those expectations in Year 1, but fantasy managers should still view him as a top-five dynasty RB with an upgraded offensive line and under new head coach Klint Kubiak in 2026 and beyond. The 22-year-old rushed for 975 yards and five touchdowns on 266 carries over 17 starts, adding 55 receptions on 73 targets for 346 yards and an additional five touchdowns as a pass-catcher in 2025. Even though he technically didn't live up to his rookie projections as the Raiders' lead back, he still finished as a top-15 fantasy back in half-PPR scoring. Kubiak is expected to lean heavily on Jeanty and the ground game in his first year in Sin City, giving the second-year back plenty of breakout potential as an elite RB1. RotoBaller has Jeanty ranked as the No. 3 dynasty RB at this point in the offseason, behind only the Falcons' Bijan Robinson and the Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs.

Ashton Jeanty a Top Dynasty Buy Ahead of the NFL Draft?

Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty was one of the hottest names in dynasty fantasy football just one year ago. The buzz around the Boise State product has cooled down slightly, and managers should capitalize on this opportunity to acquire the running back in dynasty fantasy football leagues. It felt like there was this perception during the regular season that Jeanty was inconsistent, or perhaps even underperforming. The former may be true, but the latter certainly isn't, as Jeanty finished his rookie campaign as the RB11 in PPR leagues with 975 rushing yards, 346 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns. The softened narrative was likely caused by the state of the Raiders' offense, as the team limped to a 3-14 record that was the worst in the NFL. That narrative will shift in the coming weeks as the Raiders embark on a new chapter with consensus No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza. The state of Vegas' offense is trending up, and Mendoza's presence should drive up the value of all Raiders skill players in fantasy football, including Jeanty. Plus, in a draft that is relatively sparse at the running back position, we don't expect the Raiders to bring in any major competition for the former first-round pick. All in all, Jeanty continues to trend up and should be in the conversation as a potential top-five fantasy running back in 2026. He has top-tier upside in dynasty fantasy football leagues, ranking as RotoBaller's overall RB3. Dynasty managers should buy now before it's too late.

Ashton Jeanty Poised to Break Out with Improved Offense and Protection?

Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty had an up-and-down rookie season in 2025, ultimately finishing as the overall RB11 in PPR leagues. His big games were absolutely electric, but he also had some dud performances, finishing with single-digit fantasy points on seven different occasions. Jeanty will look for more consistency in a new-look offense next year. For starters, the game script should improve under projected No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza. He should be able to drive the Raiders down the field and execute a solid passing attack, forcing defenses to place less emphasis on slowing down Jeanty. Additionally, Vegas revamped its offensive line this offseason, and the improvements should allow the Boise State product to find more gaps and have more time to make plays. All in all, an upgraded offense puts Jeanty in a prime position to succeed next year. He should offer more consistency and a higher floor, ranking as a mid-range RB1 in redraft leagues and a high-end RB1 in dynasty leagues.
