Mike Washington Jr. Erupts for 53-Yard Run in NFL Debut

Las Vegas Raiders rookie running back Mike Washington Jr. flashed in his preseason debut, although the Raiders lost 27-14 to the Arizona Cardinals. Washington Jr. turned six carries into 63 yards, no touchdowns, and failed to bring in his lone target on the night. A 53-yard scamper in which he followed his blocks, stayed square to the line of scrimmage, and exploded for the longest run of the night helped him get to 10.5 yards per carry in his debut. With teammate Ashton Jeanty firmly holding the RB1 spot, Washington Jr. could still have some upside in a change-of-pace role as RotoBaller ranks him at RB67 overall entering the season.

Mike Washington Jr. Could Earn RB2 Role

Las Vegas Raiders running back Mike Washington Jr. could have an immediate impact on the team. The 23-year-old was selected in the fourth-round of this year's draft out of Arkansas. He rushed for over 1,000 yards and scored eight touchdowns during his final season in college. Given the lack of viable options in the backfield, Washington could immediately slot into the RB2 role in Las Vegas. Ashton Jeanty is going to be the workhorse RB1, but he'll need to rest at some point. Washington could be an interesting change-of-pace back who could be one injury away from starting. He's someone worth taking a look at as a late-round handcuff.

Mike Washington Jr. has the Potential to Grow into RB2 Role

Las Vegas Raiders rookie fourth-round running back Mike Washington Jr. has the "potential to grow into a second option in the backfield" in 2026 in his first year in the league behind RB1 Ashton Jeanty, according to Ryan McFadden of ESPN. Washington has a nice blend of size (6-foot-2, 228 pounds) and speed (4.33-second 40-yard dash) and rushed for 1,070 yards (606 yards after first contact) and eight touchdowns at the University of Arkansas last year. He added 28 receptions for 226 yards and another touchdown as a pass-catcher. The Raiders expect Jeanty to have a heavy workload under new head coach Klint Kubiak, but "that shouldn't take away from Washington playing meaningful snaps" in his first year in the league as the top backup in Vegas. Washington took reps with the second team and occasionally with the first-team offense during the offseason program. The 23-year-old has a clear path to RB2 duties, but he still has plenty to clean up, including ball-security issues he showed in college. He'll be trying to hold off undrafted rookie RB Roman Hemby in training camp.

Mike Washington Jr. Worth a Final-Round Bet in Redraft Leagues

Las Vegas Raiders running back Mike Washington Jr. does not need a weekly role to justify his price near the end of drafts. The Raiders traded up to take him 122nd overall after he piled up 1,296 scrimmage yards and nine touchdowns on 195 touches at Arkansas, including 28 receptions. He is now listed at 6-foot-2, 228 pounds after clocking a 4.33-second 40 at the combine, and the team viewed him as a natural fit for Klint Kubiak's wide-zone scheme. Ashton Jeanty is not about to lose the backfield. He handled 321 touches as a rookie, and Washington may have to live on scattered change-of-pace work while Jeanty is healthy. The appeal comes from the depth chart behind him. Dylan Laube, Chris Collier, and undrafted rookie Roman Hemby offer little proven NFL production, leaving Washington with a real chance to enter the season as the primary backup. RotoBaller ranks him RB55 and 191st overall in PPR, a price that asks for very little. Washington is not a standalone flex play yet, but he is a worthwhile late-round handcuff for Jeanty managers and a reasonable injury-away bet for anyone taking shots at running back depth.

Mike Washington Jr. Carries Dynasty Sleeper Appeal Entering 2026

After recording 1,296 yards from scrimmage and nine touchdowns on 195 touches across 12 games at the University of Arkansas in 2025, running back Mike Washington Jr. was selected by the Las Vegas Raiders in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Even after a relatively disappointing rookie season, 2025 number six overall pick Ashton Jeanty remains firmly atop the Raiders running back depth chart going into 2026. However, Washington Jr. could be the favorite for the RB2 role in a backfield that also contains Dylan Laube, Chris Collier, and Roman Hemby. Jeanty has the skill set of a three-down workhorse and logged 321 touches across 17 games in 2025, so there may not end up being much fantasy-relevant playing time behind him in Las Vegas. At the same time, Jeanty averaged a highly inefficient 3.7 yards per carry last season, and the Raiders could be looking to keep him fresher by spreading out their backfield touches a bit more. Washington Jr. could be a solid buy-low target for dynasty managers heading into 2026, given the opportunity available to him in Las Vegas.

Can Mike Washington Jr. Force a Backfield Split in Vegas?

Las Vegas Raiders running back Mike Washington Jr. had one of the most impressive showings at the 2026 NFL Combine, clocking a 4.33-second 40-yard dash at 223 pounds, but with neither that size nor speed consistently showing through in his college production, he fell to the fourth round in a weak running back class. Washington forced missed tackles at one of the lowest rates in the 2026 class, and despite the verifiable speed, he also ranked in the bottom half of breakaway run percentage. Landing in Vegas with first-year head coach Klint Kubiak, there is a reasonable expectation that he could see a healthy early workload in a change-of-pace role behind 2025 sixth overall pick Ashton Jeanty. The difference between this running back room and the one Kubiak ran in Seattle is that the talent gap between Jeanty and Washington is vastly wider than that between Kenneth Walker III and former second-round pick Zach Charbonnet. If taken on his word, Kubiak will see that Washington has a hand in keeping Jeanty fresh, and at RotoBaller's rookie RB7, that could be enough to sell high on a player who simply may not be able to keep pace long-term.

Raiders Add Mike Washington Jr. to Their Backfield in the Draft

The Las Vegas Raiders have selected Arkansas running back prospect Mike Washington Jr. with the 122nd overall pick in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Washington joins a backfield that lacks much depth behind former first-rounder Ashton Jeanty. Washington will presumably compete for the backup role with Dylan Laube, the New Hampshire product who has just 27 scrimmage yards through two seasons. Washington has experience as a productive ball-carrier at a Power 4 program, amassing 1,070 rushing yards, 226 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns with the Razorbacks in 2025. Depending on whether the Raiders make any other backfield additions this offseason, Washington could have immediate dynasty appeal as the handcuff behind Jeanty, especially in an upward-trending Raiders offense led by No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza.

Mike Washington Jr. Visits With Falcons

Arkansas running back Mike Washington Jr. had a top-30 visit with the Atlanta Falcons on Friday, sources told Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports. Washington also has visits in the next two weeks lined up with the Tampa Buccaneers, Green Bay Packers, and Seattle Seahawks. The 6-foot-1, 223-pounder ran an eye-opening 4.33-second 40-yard dash at the scouting combine in late February and is projected to be a Day 2 pick in this month's NFL draft. The Falcons already have stud RB Bijan Robinson, and although they lost highly productive backup Tyler Allgeier to free agency, they signed Brian Robinson Jr. as their RB2 this offseason. Washington would likely open his NFL career as the RB3 in Atlanta. In his lone season with the Razorbacks in 2025, Washington had 1,070 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 167 carries, adding 28 catches for 226 yards and another score in 12 games played. He also had eight rushing touchdowns on 157 carries in 12 games in 2024 with New Mexico State after spending three seasons at Buffalo.

Mike Washington Jr. Would Fill a Big Need for Seahawks

ESPN's Matt Bowen believes that Arkansas running back Mike Washington Jr. would fit in well with the Seattle Seahawks, given their needs at the position ahead of the 2026 NFL draft. Washington is projected to be a late Day 2 pick in April's draft, and Seattle could use the backfield depth with Kenneth Walker III now gone and Zach Charbonnet (knee) recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered in the playoffs in January. Washington has the lateral agility to fit new offensive coordinator Brian Fleury's scheme, which is expected to lean on motion and movement in both zone and gap concepts. Washington is quick (4.33-second 40-yard dash) and also has the frame (6-foot-1, 223 pounds) to hold up to increased volume. In his fifth collegiate season with the Razorbacks, Washington produced his first 1,000-yard season and scored eight rushing touchdowns for the second straight season. He also had 28 catches for 226 yards and one score as a receiver. Landing in Seattle would give Washington a path to immediate fantasy value in 2026 in redraft leagues.

Mike Washington Jr. Runs Fastest 40-Yard Dash Among RBs

Arkansas running back Mike Washington Jr. ran an official 4.33-second 40-yard dash on Saturday at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, which was the fastest time among all RBs, according to NFL.com. Making it even more impressive, Washington isn't small at 6-foot-1, 223 pounds. In his final collegiate season with the Razorbacks last year, he ran for a career-best 1,070 yards and eight touchdowns on 167 rushing attempts, adding 28 catches for 226 yards and another score in 12 games played. Washington may have solidified his place as one of the top RB prospects in this year's draft class, as he has speed, agility, and quickness out of the backfield after five collegiate seasons that also included stops at Buffalo and New Mexico State. Washington has been projected as more of a mid-round pick, but depending on where he lands in the NFL, he could be in line for notable first-year touches out of the backfield.
