Kyler Murray, J.J. McCarthy to Rotate With First- and Second-Team Offenses

Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy will both receive first-team and second-team repetitions as the competition for the starting job begins in training camp, according to Alec Lewis. Head coach Kevin O'Connell met with every quarterback over the past day and said he has a timeline in place for naming the starter so the team and players have clarity, though he did not reveal a date. Minnesota used a similar rotation during minicamp, and the team has cautioned against drawing conclusions from which quarterback receives more first-team work on a particular day. McCarthy completed 140 of 243 passes for 1,632 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions across 10 starts in 2025 while adding 181 rushing yards and four scores. Murray was limited to five games with Arizona, completing 110 of 161 attempts for 962 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions while rushing for 173 yards and one touchdown. The planned rotation confirms that neither quarterback has secured the job, leaving both with considerable fantasy uncertainty until O'Connell makes his decision.

Zach Charbonnet's Week 1 Return Could Be a Close Call

Seattle Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet (knee) could be in a close race to return for Week 1 as he recovers from a torn ACL, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. Breer reports that Seattle intends to handle Charbonnet cautiously to ensure he is available when the team needs him most. The 25-year-old suffered the injury during the Seahawks' divisional-round victory over San Francisco, underwent surgery on Feb. 20, and opened training camp on the active/PUP list. Charbonnet rushed 184 times for 730 yards and a team-high 12 touchdowns across 16 regular-season games in 2025 while adding 20 receptions for 144 yards. His uncertain status makes first-round rookie Jadarian Price a pivotal figure in Seattle's early backfield plans. The Seahawks selected Price 32nd overall after he recorded 674 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on 113 carries while complementing Jeremiyah Love at Notre Dame. Charbonnet can be activated from active/PUP at any point during camp, but his August progress will determine whether he is available for the season opener.

Optimism Surrounding Malik Nabers' Week 1 Status

New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers (knee) will not open training camp on the active/PUP list as he continues recovering from surgery to repair a torn ACL and torn meniscus in his right knee, according to The Athletic. The decision makes Nabers eligible to participate in any portion of practice the Giants approve, although he is expected to begin camp with a reduced workload. Nabers suffered the season-ending injury in Week 4 last year and underwent surgery in late October before requiring a second procedure this spring to remove scar tissue that was causing stiffness. He caught 18 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns in four games in 2025 after recording 109 receptions for 1,204 yards and seven scores as a rookie. General manager Joe Schoen said in June that he still believed Nabers would be ready for the Sept. 13 opener against Dallas, but the team has provided no guarantee. Avoiding the PUP list is encouraging, though his practice participation and response to increased work will determine whether he remains on track for Week 1.

Jonathan Taylor Expected to Open Training Camp on the Field

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is expected to participate when the team opens training camp Wednesday despite entering the final year of his contract, according to The Indianapolis Star. General manager Chris Ballard downplayed the possibility of a repeat of the contract dispute that disrupted Taylor's 2023 camp, saying the 27-year-old is "in a great spot." Taylor signed a three-year, $42 million extension in October 2023 and has said he would love to remain with Indianapolis for the rest of his career. He started all 17 games in 2025, rushing 323 times for 1,585 yards and 18 touchdowns while adding 46 receptions for 378 yards and two scores. That followed a 1,431-yard rushing season in 2024, giving Taylor consecutive years above 1,400 yards. Ballard declined to discuss negotiations but said the Colts continually work to retain their own players and would love to keep Taylor long term. No extension has been announced, but there is currently no indication that Taylor's contract situation will keep him off the field.

DeForest Buckner Cleared to Practice After Neck Surgery

Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle DeForest Buckner said Tuesday that he has been cleared to participate in practice after missing the team's spring program while recovering from neck surgery, according to James Boyd. Buckner sustained a herniated disc during Indianapolis' Week 9 loss to Pittsburgh and later lost strength in the left side of his upper body. He returned from injured reserve for Week 16 against San Francisco, recorded five tackles, and aggravated the injury before undergoing surgery on New Year's Eve. The 32-year-old finished the 2025 season with 47 tackles and four sacks across 10 starts. Buckner was only cleared to resume running in April, making his return to practice an important step in a lengthy rehabilitation. He said the Colts plan to ramp up his workload cautiously as training camp progresses, with the goal of being ready for the season opener against Baltimore. Buckner's clearance is encouraging, but his practice workload and ability to progress without another setback will remain important to monitor.

Christian Gonzalez Does Not Plan on Holding In During Training Camp

New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez does not plan on holding in during training camp, according to Jake Seymour of 98.5 The Sports Hub. Gonzalez is currently in the process of negotiating a contract extension with the Patriots. The 24-year-old was drafted 17th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft and is entering the fourth year of his initial rookie contract. Team owner Robert Kraft has publicized the team's negotiating efforts with the star cornerback. Kraft recently revealed the Patriots have offered Gonzalez a record-breaking offer that would make him "the highest-paid player ever to play that position in the NFL." However, Gonzalez has told reporters that he would like to keep all contract conversations private. The star cornerback was present during mandatory minicamp in June and plans to participate in training camp despite not having a new deal.

Roman Wilson Receives Praise From Veteran Quarterback

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was practically glowing when he talked about wide receiver Roman Wilson, according to Alan Saunders. Wilson is heading into his second season with Rodgers as his quarterback. Rodgers said, "I expect him to start to make some splash plays. He did in the spring. I expect him to have a nice camp." Last season, Wilson had 12 catches for 166 yards and two touchdowns on 20 targets. Wilson will be able to get on the field more often this season with head coach Mike McCarthy running the offense. Historically, McCarthy has leaned heavily into 11-personnel, which allows for three receivers to be on the field more often. Wilson could produce career highs statistically across the board this season, but he will face an uphill battle for targets in a crowded receiver room.

Ladd McConkey is a Full-Go for Training Camp

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey (hamstring) told ESPN's Kris Rhim he is a "full-go" for training camp, which begins on Wednesday. McConkey was considered questionable for the start of training camp due to a strained hamstring he suffered during offseason workouts in the spring. The 24-year-old is coming off a disappointing sophomore season, but he is a trendy breakout candidate among fantasy analysts due to his talent being utilized by new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. McConkey also went on to say, "I feel like this is probably the most talented roster I've been on since I've been here. Now we just gotta go do it." With McConkey at full health, the Chargers are looking to finally deliver on sky-high expectations within the organization in 2026.

Dontayvion Wicks in Serious Competition for No. 2 Wide Receiver Role

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks is in serious competition for the No. 2 wide receiver role in the Eagles' offense, according to Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94.1 WIP. The Eagles are entering the next phase of their passing game after trading A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots. The Eagles acquired Wicks earlier this offseason and selected Makai Lemon with the 20th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. The two will battle for the No. 2 role during training camp, which will hold its first session on July 29th. Wicks turned heads during early offseason workouts and earned high praise from players and coaches, while Lemon missed time due to a hamstring strain. Wicks has a real chance to win the No. 2 role and could become a league winner in fantasy football for 2026.

Josh Downs  • WR  •  Colts

Colts Want to Get Josh Downs Involved in Many Formations

Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen told The Coachspeak Index that the team wants to get wide receiver Josh Downs involved in multiple formations in 2026. "Getting him involved any way we can, whether it's in 12 personnel -- obviously, he plays a lot in the slot in 11 personnel. But just trying to find different ways to get him the ball," Steichen said. The 24-year-old pass-catcher's fantasy stock is on the rise this summer with veteran Michael Pittman Jr. now in Pittsburgh and with Alec Pierce (ankle) starting training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Downs, a third-rounder in 2023 from North Carolina, took a step back in 2025 with a 58-566-4 line in 16 games in his third season in the league after a career year in 2024 in which he caught 72 of his 107 targets for 803 yards and five touchdowns in 14 games. Another breakout could be coming for Downs if QB Daniel Jones (Achilles) makes a successful return, making him an attractive WR4/flex target as a sleeper in upcoming fantasy football drafts.

Tucker Kraft Expected to Play in Week 1

The Athletic's Matt Schneidman said on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday that tight end Tucker Kraft (knee), who is starting training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list, said he expects to play in the Week 1 regular-season opener this fall against the division-rival Minnesota Vikings. Kraft suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his knee in Week 9 in 2025, and at the time, there was a case to be made that he was a top two or three TE. Schneidman adds that he wouldn't be surprised if Kraft becomes the highest-paid tight end in the league before the start of the 2026 season. While starting camp on the PUP list isn't ideal, the Packers can activate the 25-year-old at any time, and head coach Matt LaFleur said back in May that the hope is to get Kraft back for the early portion of training camp. Fantasy managers hoping to get Kraft at a discount in this year's draft after his knee injury should think again. The former third-rounder from South Dakota State was well on his way to a breakout in 2025, and the momentum hasn't slowed for that breakout to come in 2026 now that he should be a full-go for Week 1.

Eagles Sign Jalen Carter to Four-Year Extension

The Philadelphia Eagles are signing two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jalen Carter to a four-year, $152 million extension on Tuesday that is worth up to $160 million, including $106 million guaranteed, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The deal makes Carter the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history, and he'll be under contract with the team through the 2031 season. The 25-year-old former ninth overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft from the University of Georgia has been a game-changing interior defensive lineman for the Eagles since he entered the league, and he has been named a Pro Bowler in each of the last two years. Carter had 33 tackles (21 solo), three sacks, 12 QB hits, and seven pass breakups in 11 regular-season starts in 2025, and he has a total of 108 tackles (66 solo), 13.5 sacks, 25 tackles for loss, 37 QB hits, 13 pass breakups, four forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown in 43 games (27 starts) in his three regular seasons with the Eagles.

Jonathon Brooks "Looking Twitchy" at Training Camp

Carolina Panthers running back Jonathon Brooks caught a pass from quarterback Bryce Young in the flat, stuck his foot in the ground, and knifed through a couple of defenders for a big gain during training camp practice on Tuesday, according to Kyle Bailey. Brooks is "looking twitchy" so far in camp as he looks to get involved in 2026 following two ACL tears in his first two seasons in the league. The Panthers took the 23-year-old in the second round (46th overall) in 2024 from the University of Texas, but he has played in just three games for the organization. He has been impressing head coach Dave Canales so far, and he could earn RB2 duties behind Chuba Hubbard if he continues on this trajectory. Brooks' elite burst and elusiveness before his two ACL tears had drawn him comparisons to Jamaal Charles, and he's also an adept pass-catcher out of the backfield. There is still untapped potential here, but expect the Panthers to ease him into a complementary role behind Hubbard, at least early on in 2026. Fantasy managers definitely shouldn't forget about Brooks, though, and he has potential to be a sneaky RB3/flex option in point-per-reception leagues. RotoBaller has Brooks ranked as the No. 40 fantasy RB.

Eli Raridon  • TE  •  Patriots

Eli Raridon "Flashing" as a Pass-Catcher

New England Patriots beat writer Taylor Kyles reports that rookie tight end Eli Raridon is "flashing" as a receiver early in training camp. He had impressive catches on a contested target and settled between zones over the middle during practice on Tuesday. The 22-year-old third-rounder from Notre Dame comes to the Patriots after catching 32 passes for 482 yards and zero touchdowns in 12 games for the Fighting Irish in 2025 in his final collegiate season. The 6-foot-6, 245-pounder will back up Hunter Henry in his first NFL season, but Raridon has the potential to contribute right away in Josh McDaniel's offense now that Julian Hill (knee) will miss the entire season. Raridon will go undrafted in standard-sized redraft leagues in 2026, but his combination of athleticism, pass-catching skills, and size make him an interesting dynasty/keeper stash at the position. If Raridon can improve his blocking in his first year in the NFL, more playing time should come sooner rather than later. He's a rookie name to monitor at the TE position.

Baker Mayfield to Play 2026 Season on an Expiring Contract

FOX Sports' Greg Auman reports that any talks of a new contract for Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield are finished, and he will play the 2026 season on his current expiring deal. The two sides will revisit things before free agency next March. The Buccaneers will have the option to exercise the franchise tag on Mayfield for the 2027 season, but at a likely cost of around $50 million for one year. They will have an exclusive window to negotiate with him on a long-term extension before free agency starts in March. ESPN reported earlier on Tuesday that Mayfield and his agent have not made significant progress with the Bucs on a new deal. His current pay ranks 16th among QBs in terms of average pay at $33.33 million per year. The 31-year-old veteran said in May that if he didn't have a new contract by the start of camp, he didn't want to discuss one after that. Mayfield was a Pro Bowler in 2023 and 2024 and led the team to two straight playoff appearances, but he fell under the 4,000-yard passing mark in 2025 with 26 touchdowns and 11 picks in 17 starts, and his fantasy stock is trending down as a low-end QB2 option in suprerflex leagues without future Hall of Fame receiver Mike Evans in 2026 while learning a new offense.

A.J. Brown Off to Slow Start With New Quarterback

It has been a slow start in terms of the connection between New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and new wide receiver A.J. Brown in three-plus days of training camp, according to Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald. Maye is 1-for-7 with an interception when targeting Brown in team drills, and his only completion was a wide-open quick out. So far, the two are far off on deeper routes. It's not what Patriots fans want to hear, but it's still very early in camp, and the two should smooth things out, especially deep down the field, which was a specialty for Maye in 2025. The Patriots gave the Philadelphia Eagles a first-round pick for the 29-year-old Brown this offseason to become their new No. 1 pass-catcher. The three-time Pro Bowler had his sixth 1,000-yard campaign in 2025 in his final year in Philly, but he also averaged a career-low 12.9 yards per catch in 15 regular-season starts. Fantasy managers are expecting Brown's ceiling to be higher in a more explosive offense this year. In early drafts, Brown is being taken as a low-end WR1 in his new home, where he should be heavily targeted by Maye.

TreVeyon Henderson  • RB  •  Patriots

TreVeyon Henderson Showing Growth in Pass Protection

New England Patriots second-year running back TreVeyon Henderson is showing growth in pass protection early in training camp, according to Alex Bart of 985 The Sports Hub. Henderson carried the ball 180 times for 911 yards (5.1 yards per carry) and nine touchdowns in 17 regular-season games (four starts), adding 35 receptions for 221 yards and another score after the Pats took him in the second round out of Ohio State. It was a very successful rookie campaign while sharing the backfield with Rhamondre Stevenson. The 23-year-old is set to share touches again with Stevenson in 2026, but Henderson should once again have a key role in an emerging offense led by young QB Drake Maye. Henderson's weekly floor will be lower as long as Stevenson remains involved, but the young RB has the most playmaking ability and upside in New England's backfield, and he's ranked as RotoBaller's No. 23 RB going into Year 2. Gaining offensive coordinator Josh McDaniel's trust on passing downs would be a big development in terms of finding a bigger role in 2026. If Stevenson were to go down with an injury this year, Henderson would have clear RB1 weekly upside.

Hunter Henry Making Highlight-Reel Catches in Camp

Mark Daniels of MassLive.com reports that New England Patriots tight end Hunter Henry made a highlight-reel grab during training camp practice on Tuesday, jumping over defender Kevin Byard and then crashing to the ground for a big gain on a deep connection with quarterback Drake Maye. The 31-year-old veteran and former second-rounder (35th overall) by the Chargers in 2016 from the University of Arkansas is still New England's top pass-catching TE going into 2026, despite the addition of rookie Eli Raridon in this year's draft. Henry had a strong 2025 season (his fifth year with the Pats), catching 60 of his 87 targets for 768 yards and seven touchdowns (his most since 2021) in 17 regular-season starts. At the very worst, Henry should be considered a midrange TE2 while developing excellent chemistry with Maye, although his floor and ceiling could be lowered in 2026 after the offseason additions of receivers A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs. With limited volume most likely, Henry will be dependent on finding the end zone, perhaps more than ever before.

Anthony Richardson Sr.'s Trade Request is Still in Place

FOX 59's Mike Chappell reports that Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr.'s trade request is "still in place." However, the Colts expect Richardson to remain with the team in 2026, with general manager Chris Ballard saying that the team isn't "going to give him away." The 24-year-old signal-caller has been a massive bust since the Colts took him fourth overall in 2023 out of the University of Florida. Injuries and lack of accuracy as a passer have done him in, and it's now clear that Daniel Jones (Achilles) is the Colts' clear starter under center going forward. In 17 games (15 starts) in his three years in the NFL, Richardson has completed just 50.6% of his pass attempts for 2,400 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. A-Rich's elite rushing abilities always gave him potential for QB1 fantasy upside, but his inability to stay healthy has derailed his career early on. For fantasy football purposes, a trade and a change of scenery might give Richardson the best chance of reviving his career. He played in just two games in 2025 and missed most of the year with a fractured orbital bone due to a freak accident while stretching.

DK Metcalf  • WR  •  Steelers

DK Metcalf Will be Moved Around the Formation More This Year

Pittsburgh Steelers new head coach Mike McCarthy said the team is going to move wide receiver DK Metcalf around the formation more this year, according to Nick Farabaugh of Penn Live. McCarthy also added that he has been pretty impressed with the chemistry between Metcalf and veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. "We need him going....DK can change games," McCarthy said. In his first year in the Steel City in 2025, Metcalf didn't have much help around him and finished with just 59 receptions for a career-low 850 yards and six touchdowns on 99 targets across 15 regular-season starts. The addition of veteran wideout Michael Pittman Jr. will allow Pittsburgh to move Metcalf around more on offense to try to create mismatches for the two-time Pro Bowler. McCarthy's offense should be more friendly volume-wise for Metcalf, but the problem is that the Steelers added more target competition, and Rodgers is no longer the player he once was in his last NFL season. The reality is that Metcalf's fantasy ceiling and floor are much lower, so fantasy managers should be targeting him as a WR3/flex and not a WR2 set for a big bounce-back season.
