Zach Charbonnet's Long-Term Upside Now in Doubt

Seattle Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet (knee) tore his ACL in the team's Divisional Playoff win over the 49ers, but even with his availability in doubt to begin the season, if he could have gotten through the first two days of the 2026 NFL Draft without seeing a running back selected by Seattle, he would have been in the best position of his young career. That obviously did not happen, with the Seahawks spending their first-round pick on Notre Dame running back Jadarian Price. With only four total selections heading into the draft, Seattle was tabbed as a team likely to trade back, but they felt enough conviction to use the 32nd overall pick on Price, an indication that he will likely be given starter's reps out of the gate and should be viewed as the future of the position in the Emerald City. With Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III departing in free agency, the presumed path to a Charbonnet starting role, once back and healthy, involved merely beating out low-money free agent acquisition Emanuel Wilson, 2023 7th-round pick Kenny McIntosh, and 2024 undrafted free agent George Holani. As the second running back off the board in this year's draft, Price now represents a significantly sturdier barricade to overcome. Even as the less efficient option in the pair, Charbonnet found moderate fantasy success splitting the backfield with Walker, and he has a chance to reclaim a similar role in year one under new offensive coordinator Brian Fleury. That said, any hopes of a featured role in Seattle have all but disappeared with the drafting of Price, and Charbonnet enters the final season of his rookie contract as a high-end RB3 in dynasty leagues.

Zach Charbonnet a Volatile Buy Heading into NFL Draft

Seattle Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet (knee) has become one of the most interesting names in fantasy ahead of this week's NFL Draft. With Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III signing a top-of-market deal with the Kansas City Chiefs and Charbonnet recovering from the ACL tear he sustained in the team's Divisional Playoff win, Seattle heads into the draft with low-money acquisition Emanuel Wilson and 2024 undrafted free agent George Holani atop the depth chart. The expectation is that the Seahawks will add a running back early in the draft, creating a potential buy window for Charbonnet, but the team has a league-low four picks heading into Thursday, and with needs at corner and along both lines, they may opt to spend the 32nd or 64th pick elsewhere. With so little draft capital, the team won't have a ton of freedom to move around the board, and in a weak running back class, there's no guarantee of coming away with even a moderate difference maker. The 25-year-old Charbonnet is currently RotoBaller's dynasty RB25, but if Seattle is unable to make any meaningful additions to the room through the draft, that ranking will surely spike.

Seahawks Expect Zach Charbonnet to Play in 2026

Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald mentioned that running back Zach Charbonnet (knee) is "part of the equation" for the 2026 season, which means the Seahawks are expecting him to return at some point during the upcoming season, per John Boyle of the team's official website. "Zach's a great player, he's not going to miss the whole year," Macdonald said. It's great news for a Seattle backfield that lost Kenneth Walker III in free agency after he was named Super Bowl LX MVP. The team still has George Holani and signed Emanuel Wilson on the open market, but when healthy, Charbonnet should have a leg up for the majority of the team's backfield touches as they look to defend their Super Bowl title. The 25-year-old had a bigger role in 2025 next to Walker, carrying the ball a career-high 184 times for 730 yards (4.0 yards per carry) and 12 touchdowns in 16 regular-season games, adding 20 catches for 144 yards on 24 targets. There's still a lot to like about Charb's long-term fantasy profile, but in single-year leagues, tempers should be tempered after he tore his ACL in January during the postseason. He is not expected to be fully ready for the start of the 2026 regular season.

Zach Charbonnet Could Return to a Wide-Open Backfield

Seattle Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet (knee) tore his ACL in a Divisional Round playoff win over the 49ers, making him extremely unlikely to be ready for the start of the 2026 season. The Seahawks watched Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III take a top-of-market deal with the Chiefs in free agency and have done little to address the running back position, heading into April's NFL Draft with Emanuel Wilson, George Holani, and Kenny McIntosh as the top healthy backs on the roster. Seattle holds the 32nd overall pick and has become a buzzy landing spot for whoever becomes the second running back drafted behind top prospect Jeremiyah Love. The team has reportedly hosted Jonah Coleman and Chip Trayanum on official visits, and depending on exactly how early they make a move at the position, Charbonnet could see a mid-season return to one of the most wide-open backfields in the league.

Zach Charbonnet's Knee Surgery Goes "Very Well"

Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider said on Seattle Sports Radio on Thursday that running back Zach Charbonnet's (knee) ACL surgery "went very well," and his "outlook is good." Schneider wouldn't provide a timeline for Charbonnet's recovery or a timetable for when he might be able to resume football activities. The 25-year-old tore the ACL in his knee during the Divisional Round win against the San Francisco 49ers, so given the timing of the injury, it wouldn't be realistic to expect Charbonnet to be ready for Week 1 of the 2026 regular season. Typically, recovery from a torn ACL takes anywhere from eight to 12 months. Seattle's backfield is thin because of Charb's injury, and with Kenneth Walker III signing with the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency. If Charbonnet isn't ready in early September, the Seahawks could pair a rookie RB with both George Holani and newcomer Emanuel Wilson. Charbonnet's 2026 fantasy value is probably going to take a pretty big hit because of his injury, but when he's finally healthy, he could have a clear path to being the RB1.

Zach Charbonnet Looks Like the Clear RB1 in Seattle

Seattle Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet (knee) saw his 2025 season come to an unfortunate end when he went down with a torn ACL during his team's NFC Divisional Round win over the San Francisco 49ers. As a result, Charbonnet could miss time to start the 2026 campaign. However, Charbonnet now projects as Seattle's clear RB1 upon his return after former Seahawks back Kenneth Walker III agreed to terms with the Kansas City Chiefs on a new three-year contract earlier this month. The Seahawks will almost certainly bring in another body or two to the running back room before the start of the season. Still, Charbonnet's current competition in the backfield is the unproven running back tandem of George Holani and Kenny McIntosh (knee). Provided Charbonnet does not experience any setbacks in his recovery, he could emerge as a workhorse back and Seattle's clear RB1 of the future. Despite his current injury status, Charbonnet's dynasty stock should be trending up following Walker III's free agent departure.

Zach Charbonnet to Lead Seattle Backfield When Healthy?

Before tearing his ACL in a Divisional Round win over the 49ers, Seattle Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet (knee) had seen close to a 50/50 timeshare split with Kenneth Walker III for most of the 2025 season. Walker is now set to test free agency after the team declined to apply their franchise tag before Tuesday's deadline, and Charbonnet could be in line for an increased workload in 2026. While Walker could still return to Seattle, the coaching staff's comfort with Charbonnet was a factor in allowing the Super Bowl MVP to reach free agency. Given Charbonnet's current recovery timeline, the team will almost certainly add competition through either free agency or the draft. However, once healthy, Charbonnet could see the inside track to more of the 1A role in any running back committee the defending champions establish.

No Timetable for Zach Charbonnet After his Surgery

Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said that running back Zach Charbonnet (knee) doesn't have a timetable for a return after undergoing surgery last weekend to fix the torn ACL in his knee that he suffered in the Divisional Round win over the San Francisco 49ers in the playoffs, according to Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune. The typical recovery time for reconstructive knee surgery for ACL tears is eight to 12 months. Seattle doesn't know exactly when Charb might be back in 2026, but Macdonald said the team is "more optimistic than it was initially." The 25-year-old took on a bigger role next to Kenneth Walker III during the 2025 regular season and led the team with 12 rushing touchdowns, the fifth-most in the NFL. He was the first Seahawk with double-digit TDs since Marshawn Lynch in 2014. Walker will be a free agent next month, but even if he departs, Charbonnet's 2026 fantasy value will most likely be down since he probably won't be ready for Week 1.

Zach Charbonnet Undergoes Knee Surgery on Friday

Seattle Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet (knee) posted on his Instagram account on Friday that he underwent surgery to fix a torn ACL, according to Corbin K. Smith of Emerald Spectrum. Smith explains that it's not uncommon for such a surgery to happen several weeks after the injury occurred, but it pushes Charbonnet's recovery clock even further into the 2026 season. The 25-year-old tore his ACL in the Divisional Round win over the San Francisco 49ers. The Seahawks have not given a firm timetable for when Charbonnet might return in 2026, but he almost certainly won't be ready for the start of the regular season this fall. Not only will Seattle most likely not have Charb ready in Week 1, but Kenneth Walker III, the Super Bowl MVP, will hit the free-agent market in March. Charbonnet saw a bigger role alongside Walker in 2025, setting career-highs across the board in carries (184), rushing yards (730), and rushing TDs (12) in 16 regular-season games. However, his 2026 fantasy stock will take a big hit since he most likely won't have a full season coming off his torn ACL.

Zach Charbonnet Losing Dynasty Value After Injury Setback

Seattle Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet (knee) spent the majority of the 2025 season in a relatively even playing time split with fellow Seahawks back Kenneth Walker III. However, Charbonnet suffered a torn ACL in his knee during Seattle's NFC Divisional Round win over the San Francisco 49ers. Given the timing of the injury, Charbonnet could miss the start of the 2026 season, if not more. Across 16 regular-season games, the 25-year-old recorded 730 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on 184 carries. Charbonnet established himself as Seattle's preferred option at the goal-line and has racked up 20 rushing touchdowns over the past two seasons. While the Seahawks are reportedly looking to re-sign him, Walker III is now set to hit unrestricted free agency this offseason. If Walker III were to sign elsewhere, Charbonnet could take over as the team's lead back once he gets healthy. Still, given the nature of his injury and Walker III's standout playoff run after Charbonnet went down, it seems unlikely that Charbonnet will be ticketed for anything more than a support upon his return. Charbonnet's long-term outlook in dynasty formats should take a hit as a result of his unfortunate injury setback.
