Jaxon Smith-Njigba News
Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba was targeted five times in Week 1 and six times in Week 2, but he is not yet threatening the workloads of DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. The 21-year-old has only been on the field for 58% of snaps and the targets he has seen are at an average depth of just 1.9 yards. In Week 3 against the Panthers, Smith-Njigba will line up against Jimmy Chinn or Troy Hill, who have managed most of the slot corner snaps for Carolina in the first two weeks of the season. Smith-Njigba is definitely worth holding but the only reason to start him in Week 3 is if Metcalf (ribs) is ruled out.
Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught five of his six targets for 34 yards in Sunday's win over the Detroit Lions. The rookie had some extra time in two receiver sets with DK Metcalf missing most of the first half due to injury. When Metcalf and Tyler Lockett are both healthy, though, Smith-Njigba will be relegated to three receiver sets. That playing time opportunity will be reduced if Seattle continues to utilize two and three tight end sets to shore up their battered and inexperienced offensive line, as they did in Week 2. Smith-Njigba should remain on fantasy benches until he is played more frequently.
Rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba made his regular-season debut against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1 and caught three passes for 13 yards. The Seahawks' first selection from the 2023 NFL Draft saw as many targets (five) as veteran receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, but he ran only 23 routes and his aDOT was just 1.2 yards. His limited usage may have been the result of returning from preseason wrist surgery performed on August 22, but it also was a symptom of the Rams' complete domination of the second half of their season opener. Smith-Njigba will face the Detroit Lions on the road in Week 2 and should remain on fantasy benches until Seattle gives their new receiver a more consistent role.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is an intriguing prospect coming into the NFL, but his year-one production is tough to project -- especially given his wrist surgery just weeks before the 2023 campaign. The former Ohio State Buckeye posted 1,600 yards as a sophomore (2021) playing alongside Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson but played in just three games in 2022. He was once viewed as a top-10 prospect in the 2023 class, but ultimately fell to No. 20 overall. Now, he shares a...
