Uchenna Nwosu News
The Seattle Seahawks are expected to place edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu (thigh) on Injured Reserve with a thigh injury that he suffered in the Week 5 loss to the New York Giants, according to a source. It's a tough blow for the Seahawks defense after Nwosu missed the first four games of the season with a knee injury he suffered in the preseason. Going on IR will cost him at least another four games, and he won't be eligible to return until Week 11 against the division-rival San Francisco 49ers after the club's Week 10 bye. The former second-round pick by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2018 out of USC had three tackles (two solo) in his 2024 debut on Sunday but is now set to miss more time. With Nwosu out again for the foreseeable future, the Seahawks will be asking more of Trevis Gipson as an outside edge rusher.

Uchenna Nwosu Won't Play In Week 6
Seattle Seahawks linebacker Uchenna Nwosu (thigh) will not play in Week 6 against the San Francisco 49ers, head coach Mike Macdonald told the media on Monday. Nwosu made his season debut on Sunday but played just 20 percent of snaps and registered three tackles before picking up a thigh injury and exiting the game. With the 27-year-old slated to miss Thursday Night Football against the 49ers, look for Dre'Mont Jones and Derick Hall (foot) to earn more opportunities on defense.

Uchenna Nwosu Exits Early, Does Not Return
Seattle Seahawks linebacker Uchenna Nwosu (thigh) was forced from the team's 29-20 loss to the New York Giants and did not return. He would end his outing in the second quarter after recording three total tackles (two solo). Nwosu was making his first regular-season appearance in nearly a year after a pectoral injury derailed his 2023 season in Week 7, and a preseason knee injury delayed the start of his 2024 campaign. The severity of the injury is unknown, but Seattle is getting thin on the defensive side of the ball -- already down third-year outside linebacker Boye Mafe (knee) and additionally losing Derick Hall (foot) in the contest. We'll get an update on these athletes over the next few days, but if the trio mentioned above can't play in Week 6, linebackers Dre'Mont Jones and Trevis Gipson would be in line for more playing time. Seattle will host their division-rival San Francisco 49ers at home on Thursday Night Football.

Linebacker Uchenna Nwosu To Miss Time
Seattle Seahawks outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu (knee) is expected to miss multiple weeks with a sprained MCL and could be placed on Injured Reserve. Nwosu had been playing lights out during training camp after a down year in 2023. The injury led to the Seahawks trading for Jaguars outside linebacker Trevis Gipson in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick. The Seahawks are hoping their defense can take a step forward with promising head coach Mike Macdonald coming over from Baltimore. Nwosu figures to be a big part of the defensive scheme.

Uchenna Nwosu Plans To Be Ready For Training Camp
Seattle Seahawks linebacker Uchenna Nwosu (pectoral) said last month that he "absolutely" plans to be ready for training camp this summer after having surgery last October to fix a torn pectoral. Nwosu was seen at organized team activities on Wednesday working in a positional drill and he later took part in team periods and didn't look to be at all limited. OTAs are non-contact practices, but it's still good progress for the 27-year-old former second-round pick by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2018 out of USC. He tore his pectoral muscle back in Week 7 in 2023 and missed the rest of the season, but barring a setback, Nwosu should be ready for Week 1 of the 2024 regular season this fall. The Seahawks signed Nwosu to a three-year, $45 million extension after he had a career-best 9.5 sacks in 2022.

Uchenna Nwosu Says He Will Be Ready For Training Camp
Seattle Seahawks linebacker Uchenna Nwosu (pectoral) suffered a season-ending pectoral injury in October of the 2023 campaign, but he said he expects to be ready for training camp this offseason. The former Los Angeles Chargers second-round pick in 2018 had his best season as a pro in his first year with Seattle (2022), totaling career highs in tackles (66), sacks (9.5), forced fumbles (three), and run stuffs (12.5). The 27-year-old appeared in just six games last year and collected two sacks. Nwosu is projected to be a starter in the first season under new head coach Mike Macdonald, who is known for helping develop defenders.

Uchenna Nwosu Needs Season-Ending Surgery
Seattle Seahawks linebacker Uchenna Nwosu (pectoral) needs season-ending surgery on his torn pectoral muscle, according to a source. Head coach Pete Carroll previously said "it looks like" Nwosu would need surgery on his pectoral. The 26-year-old linebacker suffered the torn pectoral muscle in the Week 7 win over the Arizona Cardinals and won't be able to return until 2024. The former second-rounder will finish his 2023 campaign with 16 tackles (12 solo), four tackles for loss, six QB hits and two forced fumbles in his second year in Seattle. With Nwosu out the rest of the way, Derick Hall will have a bigger role in the middle of Seattle's defense moving forward.

Uchenna Nwosu Signs Three-Year Extension With Seattle
Seattle Seahawks edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu signed a three-year contract extension on Monday worth up to $59 million, according to his agents, Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha. The deal also includes $32 million in guarantees. Nwosu signed a two-year, $19.055 million deal before last season, but he'll get an extension after having a career year last season. The 26-year-old pass-rusher had 66 tackles (42 solo), 9.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, 26 QB hits, four passes defensed, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 17 starts in his first season with the Seahawks. Nwosu should once again be a key edge rusher for the team in 2023.

Uchenna Nwosu Signing Two-Year Deal With Seahawks
Linebacker Uchenna Nwosu is set to sign a two-year, $20 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks, according to his agent Drew Rosenhaus. The contract includes $10.5 million guaranteed. Nwosu was a second round pick of the Los Angeles Chargers in 2018 and he spent each of his first four seasons with the Chargers before hitting free agency this offseason. He played in all 17 regular season games last year and he was second on the Chargers in sacks with five. He also had eight tackles for a loss and 40 total tackles. He'll help bolster a linebacking crew in Seattle that just lost veteran Bobby Wagner.

Uchenna Nwosu Wants To Remain With Hometown Team
Los Angeles Chargers impending free-agent outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu was born and grew up in Los Angeles and played at USC in college. He wants to stay with his hometown team, and the Chargers would love to have him back, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly. Nwosu will have plenty of options, though, as the Indianapolis Colts, Green Bay Packers, Buffalo Bills and New York Jets are expected to have interest in him, and he would ideally like a contract in the $10-13 million range at 25 years old. In 2021, he had a career-high five sacks, eight tackles for loss, 16 QB hits and one interception and received a career-high 15 starts while playing in all 17 games. And Nwosu did it all while battling through a labrum injury that was serious enough to potentially require offseason surgery.
