Jalen Milroe Working On Lower-Half Mechanics To Improve Accuracy
Seattle Seahawks rookie quarterback Jalen Milroe told reporters of SeattleSports.com that he's been focused on improving his lower-half mechanics during rookie minicamp. The Alabama product has been working on fine-tuning his base to aid in his evolution as a passer. "It's all about being an efficient passer," said the 22-year-old. "And so the more you work, the more you understand your body...So that's something that we continue to work on." Milroe was anything but the model of efficiency during his senior year at Alabama, though seeing him address it early is an encouraging sign. More so, considering he's under the tutelage of Jordan Palmer, brother to Carson Palmer, who worked with Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. The Seahawks' third-round pick has all the toolsy, physical gifts that play at the NFL, but he'll still need to refine his mechanics before surpassing teammates Drew Lock and Sam Darnold on the team's depth chart.
When asked if rookie quarterback Jalen Milroe could be used in a Taysom Hill-type role, Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said that Milroe "is a quarterback through and through." Sam Darnold will play most of the snaps in 2025, but Milroe will have an opportunity to earn a unique role in certain situations. General manager John Schneider said that Seattle "added an explosive weapon while (Milroe) develops as a quarterback." "He's going to be trained to play quarterback for us. When he's in there, he's going to be playing quarterback. But the athleticism is going to come to life when he's on the field," Macdonald said. The 6-foot-1, 216-pounder has game-changing speed and a big arm, but he needs to develop as an accurate passer with anticipation at all three levels of the field. Milroe's dynamic athleticism will make him an intriguing dynasty/keeper pick, but he should be ignored in redraft leagues.
Seahawks Select Quarterback Jalen Milroe With The 92nd Pick Overall
The Seattle Seahawks have selected Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe with the 92nd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He becomes the fourth quarterback selected in this draft. Milroe is the only FBS player with 30-plus passing touchdowns and 30-plus rushing touchdowns from 2023-2024. He threw for 5,678 yards, 39 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions while rushing for 1,257 yards and 32 touchdowns over the last two seasons. The 22-year-old has a cannon for an arm and is an exceptional athlete, but he needs to improve his accuracy as a passer. He will start off the 2025 season as the third-string quarterback behind Sam Darnold and Drew Lock. Milroe is ranked 38th overall as a rookie but is more of a dynasty stash for now as a backup for Seattle.
Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe was invited to attend this weeks' NFL draft in Green Bay, but ESPN's Peter Schrager writes that it doesn't mean the NFL expects him to be picked in the first round on Thursday night. The league invited Milroe to the draft because he's one of the top QB prospect, and even if he's not selected in Round 1, he could be in attendance on Friday night. Even though the 22-year-old might end up being a Day 2 pick, plenty of NFL teams are intrigued by him. "Rare physical talent," Browns general manager Andrew Berry said of Milroe. "Maybe the only quarterback who's faster than Lamar Jackson." The 6-foot-2, 217-pounder has the best speed at the QB position in this year's class, but in order to take the next step at the NFL level, he is going to need to improve as a passer, which is why teams might be skeptical on using a first-round pick on him.
