Velus Jones Jr. Should Benefit From New Kickoff Rules
Chicago Bears wide receiver/return man Velus Jones Jr. should only benefit from the new kickoff rules in the NFL that will start for the 2024 season. "How it pertains to our team, you can only think about a guy like Velus Jones. Great example," special teams coordinator Richard Hightower said. "A guy like that with his type of skill set, with the speed and the power that he has, and he's coming full speed ahead at you, it's like a damn freight train running at you." Jones' average of 27.4 yards per return trails only Keisean Nixon over the last two years. He hasn't worked out as a punt returner and also hasn't had much of a role in the offense since entering the league in 2022, but the 27-year-old's size/speed combo could come in handy for the Bears on kickoffs this year. The Bears could also use running back Khalil Herbert on kickoffs.
Chicago Bears wide receivers Velus Jones Jr. (illness) and Tyler Scott (hamstring) are officially active for Week 14 versus the Detroit Lions. They had been listed as questionable. Jones has been disappointing in his second pro season, amassing just three catches for nine yards. Meanwhile, Scott has 10 catches for 81 yards. Neither player belongs on the fantasy radar this Sunday.
Chicago Bears wide receiver Velus Jones Jr. caught one of his two targets for 28 yards and added a 42-yard rushing touchdown in a 29-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 18. Jones did an impressive job staying inbounds on his touchdown run, which came on an end-around in the second quarter. The 2022 third-round pick wraps up his rookie season with seven catches for 107 yards and a touchdown while he added another 103 yards and a score on the ground across 12 games. The Bears will certainly be looking for more out of Jones heading into 2023, although wide receiver is a position that the team is likely to address in the offseason.
Chicago Bears wide receiver Velus Jones Jr. caught two passes for a team-high 52 yards in the team's 35-13 loss to the Bills in Week 16. The rookie's season to this point has been nothing short of disaster as ball security issues have been made him mostly unplayable all season. But Jones Jr. was able to flash his speed on some impressive kickoff return runs in this game and then delivered the Bears biggest splash play of the day, springing free for a 44-yard gain. Jones Jr. has been a bust this season but will have a chance to end his season on a high note over the final two weeks of the season.
Chicago Bears wide receiver Velus Jones Jr. will be active for the Week 11 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. The third-round rookie was a healthy scratch last week. Now, the Bears have decided to make Jones active for what could be a high-scoring affair with the Falcons. The assumption is that Jones will be the primary kicker returner, but also be mixed in the receiving game. Fantasy managers shouldn't bother streaming Jones considering he hasn't done much this season.
N'Keal Harry, Velus Jones Jr. Inactive For Week 10
Chicago Bears wide receivers N'Keal Harry and Velus Jones Jr. are inactive for the upcoming Week 10 matchup against the Detroit Lions. This shouldn't come as a shock with Byron Pringle returning for this game. His return will make Harry inactive as Jones will miss his second straight game. The addition of Chase Claypool has ended the fantasy value of Harry and Jones in Chicago. The Bears are going to focus on passing to Claypool, Darnell Mooney, and Cole Kmet. The expectation is that Pringle won't have a big enough role to warrant rostering in fantasy leagues.
Chicago Bears wide receiver Velus Jones Jr. took a pitch from quarterback Justin Fields and scored his first NFL touchdown in Week 5. Jones Jr. had been sidelined with a hamstring injury but made his NFL debut in Week 4. The Bears were able to get the ball into the speedy rookie's hands, taking a pitch-pass in the red zone for a nine-yard touchdown run. The Bears wide receiving room lacks impact players and Chicago's offense will need to utilize Jones Jr.'s play-making ability more moving forward.
Chicago Bears rookie wide receiver Velus Jones Jr. (hamstring) is officially active for Week 4 against the New York Giants. He will make his NFL debut after missing the first three games of the season. While the Bears are thin at the wide receiver position, they don't throw the football much. As a result, Jones should be left on waivers in redraft leagues.
Chicago Bears wide receiver Velus Jones Jr. (hamstring) is expected to make his NFL debut against the New York Giants in Week 4. The third-round rookie has missed the first three weeks due to a lingering hamstring issue. Luckily, it sounds like he's ready to go here, which is a boost for the Bears offense. Although, the Bears have thrown the ball only 45 times through the first three games. Jones appears to be more of a deep league stash or dynasty hold right now. It's unlikely he has much fantasy value right out of the gate.
Chicago Bears wide receiver Velus Jones Jr. (hamstring) won't play during the Sunday night divisional meeting with the Packers. The rookie is nursing a hamstring injury that also caused him to miss the season-opener against the San Francisco 49ers. His next chance to suit up will be in Week 3 versus the Houston Texans. However, if Jones is available for that one, he may be limited, although the wideout likely isn't on many fantasy rosters at the moment. Nevertheless, it should be business as usual in Week 2, with Darnell Mooney, Cole Kmet, David Montgomery, and Equanimeous St. Brown expected to get plenty of attention from Justin Fields.
