Cody Whitehair Signs With Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders have signed interior offensive lineman Cody Whitehair, according to NFL insider Field Yates. The 31-year-old was selected by the Chicago Bears in the 2016 NFL Draft, and he spent his entire eight-year NFL career in the Windy City before becoming a free agent this offseason. He earned a trip to the Pro Bowl in 2018. Whitehair has played in 124 games (118 starts) and has experience at both left guard and center. The Raiders could take a swing on a quarterback in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft, and building up the offensive line is a key priority, as shown by this signing.

Bears Release Eddie Jackson, Cody Whitehair

The Chicago Bears announced on Thursday that they released safety Eddie Jackson and center Cody Whitehair. Jackson, a two-time Pro Bowler with the Bears in 2018 and 2019, had a career-low 37 tackles (32 solo), one interception and five passes defensed in 12 starts in his seventh season in the Windy City in 2023. The 30-year-old defensive back will now look for work outside of Chicago in 2024 for the first time in his career after being drafted in the fourth round in 2017 out of Alabama. In his seven-year career, he's recorded 459 tackles (355 solo), two sacks, 14 tackles for loss, 15 interceptions (three returned for touchdowns), 44 passes defensed, 10 forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries (three returned for TDs). Whitehair's release will create $9 million in salary cap space in 2024.

Cody Whitehair To Miss Significant Time

Chicago Bears guard Cody Whitehair (knee) is not believed to have suffered a season-ending injury, according to head coach Matt Eberflus. He exited in the second quarter of Sunday's game due to a knee issue. It's apparently a significant enough injury that Whitehair is going to miss multiple weeks. The organization is hopeful to get Whitehair back at some point this season, but didn't give a timetable. Lucas Patrick is expected to fill in at left guard in Whitehair's absence. This is certainly a downgrade to an already not great Bears offensive line.

Cody Whitehair Tests Positive For COVID-19

Chicago Bears offensive lineman Cody Whitehair tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, according to a source. It's the team's second offensive lineman to test positive after Jason Spriggs earlier this week. The Bears are in the intensive COVID-19 protocol and have gone virtual on Thursday out of an abundance of caution. Both Whitehair and Spriggs will be inactive for the team's Week 9 contest against the Titans, which is bad news for both running back David Montgomery and quarterback Nick Foles for an offense that has already had its fair share of problems this season.
