Aaron Rodgers Sees Roman Wilson Coming Into His Own

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson is getting another vote of confidence from Aaron Rodgers. According to Mike DeFabo, Rodgers said Wilson is "coming into his own," pointing to how much more dynamic and confident he looks this summer. That's a big change from where Wilson was a year ago. He caught only 12 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games last season and was a healthy inactive late in the year. This summer, he is listed as a starter on Pittsburgh's first unofficial depth chart and has been making plays in camp, including a diving touchdown catch during a two-minute drill. There is still competition for work with second-round rookie Germie Bernard in the receiver room, but Wilson has given the Steelers more reason to keep him involved. Rodgers continuing to single him out is notable, especially after such a quiet 2025. Wilson still has to carry it into the regular season, but his third-year outlook looks considerably better than it did a few months ago.

Roman Wilson Emerging as Steelers' WR3

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson appears to have the inside track on the team's WR3 job out of the slot, according to Nick Farabaugh. The third-year receiver is positioned to work alongside DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. in three-receiver sets, but the pecking order changes if Pittsburgh loses one of its outside starters. Farabaugh reports that rookie Germie Bernard would be the first receiver to step in on the perimeter in that situation. Wilson caught just 12 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns across 13 games last season, so earning a regular slot role would represent a sizable jump in opportunity. Bernard, the 47th overall pick in April, has the versatility to play inside or outside and remains an important part of the rotation. Wilson's camp has put him in position for more snaps, though an injury to Metcalf or Pittman may benefit Bernard more than it expands Wilson's role.

Roman Wilson "Well Ahead" for WR3 Role in Pittsburgh

Chris Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that veteran wide receiver Roman Wilson is "well ahead" of rookie Germie Bernard for the WR3 role behind DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. Wilson has been an early standout in training camp this summer despite a really disappointing year in 2025 when the Steelers really needed someone to step up alongside Metcalf. The 25-year-old former third-rounder in 2024 from the University of Michigan only caught 12 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns in 13 regular-season games (four starts) in his second year in the NFL. Wilson is looking to put that in the past, though, and his chemistry with veteran QB Aaron Rodgers cannot be discounted. His speed and versatility are what stand out the most in a Steelers offense that should be more fantasy-friendly under new head coach Mike McCarthy in 2026. Still, Wilson probably will go undrafted in most standard-sized 12-team fantasy leagues as long as he's the WR3 in a role that most likely won't demand a high volume of weekly targets.

Mike McCarthy Praises Roman Wilson, Wants to Get Him Involved Across the Field

After two disappointing seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, wide receiver Roman Wilson could benefit from a new coaching staff, and he has earned the praise of head coach Mike McCarthy for the work he's done in the initial practices of training camp. McCarthy has been impressed by what the 2024 third-round pick has shown out of the slot, telling reporters he's done a "hell of a job" working on the inside and suggesting he could soon see more work on the outside. After injuries all but deleted his rookie season, Wilson earned some early training camp buzz last year but caught only 12 passes for 166 yards in his second season. Ranked outside RotoBaller's top 300 players for 2026, fantasy expectations remain low, but if Wilson can continue to build momentum and carve out a larger role, he could eventually work his way back into the streaming conversation in an offense projected to see a higher passing volume under McCarthy.

Roman Wilson has Been Steelers' "Most-Targeted" Pass-Catcher

Penn Live's Nick Farabaugh writes that Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson is getting a lot of looks from veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers in training camp practice on Thursday, and he's "easily been the most targeted player" through two days. The Rodgers-Wilson connection has already looked a lot better on Thursday after the two had two miscommunications on Wednesday. The 25-year-old saw the majority of the reps as the WR3 on Wednesday in three-receiver sets alongside DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr., and he's looking to get more involved in 2026 after catching just 12 of 21 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games played in 2025 in his second year in the NFL. Wilson's main competition for the WR3 role this summer is rookie second-rounder Germie Bernard, but so far, it looks like Wilson's job to lose. The former third-rounder is a name to watch in Steelers camp, but the WR3 role in Pittsburgh with Rodgers leading the show in his final NFL season probably won't amount to much volume to make him all that intriguing in 12-team fantasy leagues.

Roman Wilson Seeing Most of the WR3 Reps

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson saw the bulk of the reps as the WR3 during Wednesday's first training camp session. DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. will remain on top of the depth chart, but it appears the WR3 is open for grabs. Wilson seems to have the edge to begin training camp. It won't be easy, as second-round pick Germie Bernard should also be making a push for the WR3 to start the season. Wilson put together a 12-catch season in 2025, but the Steelers have faith that he can still be a reliable contributor. He could be worth stashing in deep leagues just in case Metcalf or Pittman miss time.

Roman Wilson Receives Praise From Veteran Quarterback

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was practically glowing when he talked about wide receiver Roman Wilson, according to Alan Saunders. Wilson is heading into his second season with Rodgers as his quarterback. Rodgers said, "I expect him to start to make some splash plays. He did in the spring. I expect him to have a nice camp." Last season, Wilson had 12 catches for 166 yards and two touchdowns on 20 targets. Wilson will be able to get on the field more often this season with head coach Mike McCarthy running the offense. Historically, McCarthy has leaned heavily into 11-personnel, which allows for three receivers to be on the field more often. Wilson could produce career highs statistically across the board this season, but he will face an uphill battle for targets in a crowded receiver room.

Roman Wilson has a Lot to Prove in Training Camp

Jack Markowski of Sports Illustrated writes that Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson has a lot to prove this summer in training camp after failing to take advantage of his opportunity in the passing game in 2025, finishing with just 12 catches on 21 targets for 166 yards and two touchdowns in 13 regular-season games (four starts). The key for Wilson is to build up his chemistry with future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers in new head coach Mike McCarthy's offense. But even if Wilson can do that, he won't be guaranteed a regular role on offense after the offseason additions of veteran Michael Pittman Jr. and rookie Germie Bernard. The only advantage Wilson has is the fact that he played with Rodgers last year, which could give him a leg up over the polished Bernard going into Week 1 of the 2026 season. The 25-year-old former third-rounder in 2024 out of the University of Michigan is blessed with quickness and the ability to play inside and outside, but he's currently outside of RotoBaller's top-100 WR rankings after his disappointing 2025 finish.

Roman Wilson has Shaky Dynasty Value

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson was expected to have a breakout campaign this past season. The assumption was that Wilson was going to get a ton of chances after George Pickens was dealt to the Dallas Cowboys. Instead, Wilson finished with 12 receptions for 166 receiving yards and two touchdowns in 13 games. It's not going to get easier for Wilson to find opportunities with Michael Pittman Jr. joining the offense this offseason. Also, the Steelers selected Germie Bernard in the second-round of this year's draft. Now, Wilson might fall to fourth or fifth on the depth chart after these moves this offseason. He's only 25 years old, but dynasty managers likely missed their chance to get value for him when he was hyped last year. Wilson will probably play a depth role going forward.

Roman Wilson Worth Holding in Dynasty Leagues After Offseason Additions?

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson had a big opportunity to seize a much bigger role on offense in 2025 in his second year in the NFL after the Steelers traded George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys. The 24-year-old former third-round selection (84th overall) in 2024 out of Michigan failed to seize that opportunity, finishing the 2025 campaign with just 12 catches on 21 targets for 166 yards and two touchdowns in 13 regular-season games (four starts) after he played in just one game in his rookie season. Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers has returned for one more year in the Steel City, which is good news for all of the Steelers' pass-catchers, but fantasy managers in dynasty/keeper leagues should probably move on from Wilson after Pittsburgh added Michael Pittman Jr. in an offseason trade and selected rookie Germie Bernard in the second round of this year's draft. Wilson flashed several times in 2025, but it wasn't enough, and his role faded down the stretch -- he was a healthy scratch in four of the last six regular-season contests. It's clear by the Steelers' offseason moves that they aren't planning on Wilson being a big part of their offense, and RotoBaller has him ranked as the No. 140 WR in dynasty leagues.
