Sean Murphy-Bunting News
The Tennessee Titans are finalizing a one-year deal worth up to $5 million with free-agent cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting on Monday, according to sources. Murphy-Bunting is only 25 years old and has already won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In his fourth year in the NFL in 2022, he had 31 tackles (19 solo), two interceptions, seven passes defensed and a forced fumble in 12 games (five starts). Murphy-Bunting should serve in a starting role with his new team in 2023. In his four NFL seasons combined, he has produced 188 tackles (139 solo), one sack, six tackles for loss, six interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), 21 passes defensed, four forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 53 games (36 starts).
Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting (hamstring) is officially inactive for the wild-card playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Murphy-Bunting was a limited practice participant all week, but his hamstring was bothering him during pre-game warmups, so he will not suit up. The good news is that cornerback Carlton Davis (back) will play after coming into Sunday's game questionable. Murphy-Bunting has been a starter for Tampa's secondary when healthy, but he has played in only nine games (eight starts) this year, recording 43 tackles (30 solo) and a forced fumble. The Buccaneers secondary is their weakness on defense, but the Eagles were the leading rushing attack in the NFL this year, so it will be interesting to see how they attack the Bucs defense.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerbacks Sean Murphy-Bunting and Jamel Dean were both placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday, bringing the total number of Buccaneers players and coaches on the list to seven. Safety Antoine Winfield Jr. (foot) was inactive last Saturday in the win over the Cleveland Browns, so if he misses another game, Tampa's secondary could be extremely thin if Murphy-Bunting and Dean aren't eligible to play in Week 17 against the New York Jets. The Buccaneers defense/special teams is going to be attractive in fantasy leagues regardless this weekend because of the matchup alone, but New York could take advantage of the Bucs short-handed secondary, especially if rookie receiver Elijah Moore and veteran pass-catcher Jamison Crowder return from injuries.
