Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back DeShon Elliott (hamstring) is inactive for Saturday's divisional matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Elliott was unable to practice during the first two sessions of the week but was able to upgrade to a limited participant on Thursday. However, that not enough to turn the corner and he will now miss his second-straight contest. Through his first 13 games of the season, Elliott averaged 7.4 tackles per game with six total pass deflections and one interception. When he was sidelined last weekend, Damontae Kazee saw an uptick in snaps and should be expected to see an increased role once again. Elliott will set his sights on returning in Week 17 to face the Kansas City Chiefs.
Free-agent safety DeShon Elliott signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday for two years and $6 million, according to a source. Elliott was initially drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2018 out of Texas and spent the first three years of his career in Baltimore. Since then, he's spent single years in Detroit and Miami. In 15 regular-season starts for the Dolphins last year, Elliott had 82 tackles (53 solo), an interception, a career-high seven passes defended and a fumble recovery. The 26-year-old has accumulated 287 tackles (202 solo), 3.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, 11 QB hits, three interceptions, 17 passes defended, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 57 career games (50 starts) in five NFL seasons. Elliott will be competing for a starting spot in Pittsburgh's secondary.
Former Detroit Lions defensive back DeShon Elliott signed an undisclosed deal with the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday, according to a source. Elliott has started 35 games at safety for the Baltimore Ravens and Lions in the last four seasons. He'll add quality depth with Brandon Jones (knee) recovering from a torn ACL and Eric Rowe hitting free agency. In his lone season with the Lions in 2022, the 25-year-old amassed a career-high 96 tackles (73 solo), five tackles for loss, one interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 14 games (13 starts). Whether he's relevant in IDP leagues again in 2023 will depend on the health of Jones at the starting strong safety position in Miami.
Detroit Lions safety DeShon Elliott (shoulder) exited Sunday's game against the New York Jets and is questionable to return. He racked up six tackles before exiting. Look for C.J. Moore to receive more snaps in Elliott's absence.
The Detroit Lions signed former Baltimore Ravens sixth-rounder DeShon Elliott to an undisclosed one-year deal on Wednesday, according to a source. Elliott was recently on a visit with Detroit and has shown plenty of promise when healthy, most notably in 2020 when he started 16 games. The 24-year-old safety had 80 tackles (51 solo), three tackles for loss, five QB hits, 2.5 sacks, four passes defensed and two forced fumbles in 2020, but he's played in 12 games in his other two NFL seasons due to injuries. Elliott should have a big role in Detroit's secondary if he can just stay on the field.
Baltimore Ravens third-year pro defensive back DeShon Elliott will take over as a starting free safety after the release of Pro Bowl safety Earl Thomas last Sunday. Elliott was a sixth-round pick by the Ravens in 2018. The 23-year-old from Texas played in only six games (no starts) and had six solo tackles and one pass defensed in his work in his rookie season. The secondary is the strength of this team's very talented defense, but the risk in cutting Thomas could mean a potential flaw in the back end. Still, the Ravens Defense should be drafted as a top-five defensive unit in fantasy leagues that employ team defenses.
