Jalen Ramsey, Rams Agree On Massive Extension

The Los Angeles Rams and cornerback Jalen Ramsey agreed on a massive contract extension on Wednesday. Ramsey's five-year, $105 million extension averages $21 million per year and is the largest contract signed by a cornerback. He's the first defensive back in NFL history to sign a deal worth more than $100 million and his $71.2 million at signing is the largest guarantee for a defensive back. The Rams acquired Ramsey from the Jaguars last year for two first-round picks, and now they finally have him locked up for the long term. The 25-year-old is one of the best shutdown corners in the league and has made the Pro Bowl each of the last three seasons. However, like most shutdown corners, he's not much of an IDP asset because opposing quarterbacks often ignore his side of the field. Ramsey had 31 solo tackles, one interception and four passes defensed in his nine games played with LA last season.

Jalen Ramsey Says He Won't Hold Out

Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey is entering the last year of his contract, and he told reporters on a video call that he does not intend to hold out. Ramsey was clear that he fully intends on reporting to training camp on time, but he also reiterated that the Rams know his contract demands. Ramsey's demeanor gave the impression that the two sides are no good footing so far, and Ramsey seemed excited to say that his new role with the team is expected to vary from just playing straight cornerback. Any extension for Ramsey expects to be a hefty one, but the expectation has been that the Rams would be extending him after they traded for him.

No Timeline For Jalen Ramsey Extension

Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead said that there is "no timeline" on a long-term contract extension for cornerback Jalen Ramsey. The Rams acquired Ramsey from the Jaguars in the middle of last season for two first-round picks. The 25-year-old played in just 12 total games last year (nine with the Rams), and he had 33 tackles (31 solo), one forced fumble and an interception in his time in Los Angeles. The former fifth overall pick in the 2016 draft has made three straight Pro Bowls and was a first-team All-Pro back in 2017 when Jacksonville made an AFC Championship appearance. Ramsey will be expensive, but he'd be a huge asset for the Rams secondary for years to come if he sticks around.
