T.J. Hockenson Looks To Build Off Impressive Debut

Detroit Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson will look to build off an impressive Week 1 performance Sunday with the Los Angeles Chargers coming to town. The rookie tight end looked spectacular in his debut, hauling in six catches for 131 yards and a touchdown and has quickly put himself into the borderline TE1 conversation. The Chargers only allowed three receptions to Colts tight ends in Week 1, but that may have been due to the flow of the game, as the group was targeted only six times collectively. If Week 1 was any indication, Hockenson should be in line for a healthy amount of targets and will be a high-upside TE2 in this matchup.

T.J. Hockenson Lives Up To Early Hype

Detroit Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson was huge in his first NFL game on Sunday afternoon against the Arizona Cardinals. Hockenson ended the game with six receptions on nine targets for 131 yards and a touchdown. In training camp and preseason, Hockenson was spoken highly of his pass catching ability by the Lions coaching staff and Stafford, he certainly did not disappoint in his debut. If he wasn't drafted or claimed already, Hockenson will likely be the top waiver-wire option this week. Based on this performance and the coaching staff's believe in him, Hockenson can be a TE1 option moving forward.

T.J. Hockenson's Role For Sunday Still Unknown

Detroit Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson will look to start his rookie season on the right foot this Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. Hockenson is second on the tight end depth chart, behind Jesse James, but has proven that he is an excellent pass-catch so could find himself on the field quite a bit. Hockenson and Stafford seemed to have connected well throughout training camp and preseason and the Arizona defense is a well-below average unit; the recipe for Hockenson to have a solid opener is there. Regardless, Hockenson is just too risky to start as a TE1 this week, his exact role is largely unknown and there is a chance his snaps remain limited. He is worth a shot as a TE2 and depth option in most leagues.
