Jordan Mason News
San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason will ride with uncertainty to Minnesota where his team will face the Vikings on Monday night. Mason was a popular waiver target this week as fantasy managers jostled to take advantage of the Christian McCaffrey oblique injury that has kept him questionable all week. That waiver arrow may not have hit the mark, however. Managers are now faced with the prospect of saving a spot for Mason in their lineups Sunday by benching a sure thing, only to have McCaffrey take his usual workload on Monday. In addition, fellow backup Elijah Mitchell is fully healthy and ahead of Mason on the depth chart. In Mason's favor though, is that he outperformed Mitchell last Sunday in Cleveland with five carries for 27 yards and a touchdown to Mitchell's two carries for minus-three yards. If we know McCaffrey is out, Mason is startable in a bye-heavy week. Otherwise, look elsewhere.
San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason generated some fantasy production on Sunday in a 19-17 loss at the Cleveland Browns. Starter Christian McCaffrey (oblique) left the game in the third quarter, leaving Mason and Elijah Mitchell to take over backfield duties. Mason finished the game with five carries for 27 yards, including a crucial fourth-quarter eight-yard touchdown run to give San Francisco the lead. He was not targeted in the passing game. It's unclear why Mason out-touched Mitchell five-to-two in the game, creating a murky situation moving forward. Fantasy managers hitting the waiver wire in anticipation of McCaffrey potentially missing next week shouldn't assume that Mason has leapfrogged Mitchell on the depth chart, as San Francisco may have been trying to protect Mitchell's still-recovering knee injury. The 49ers will travel to Minnesota to face the Vikings in a Monday night Week 7 matchup.
San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason will make the trip to Cleveland with the team to take on the Browns on Sunday. Last week in the absence of regular backup Elijah Mitchell (knee), Mason had 10 carries for 69 yards and a touchdown versus Dallas. He failed to catch his only target. Mason surprisingly out-gained starter Christian McCaffrey on the ground and was efficient at 6.9 yards per carry, but 36 of those yards and the touchdown came in the fourth quarter when McCaffrey was on the sideline with the lead well in hand. In addition, Mitchell got in a limited practice today and is trending toward playing. Unless Mitchell is out and fantasy managers want to gamble that Mason gets more garbage time, he should not be considered for lineups.

For an undrafted free agent, San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason impressed in his first NFL season in 2022, gaining 258 yards and one touchdown on 43 carries in 16 games (zero starts). His ability to contribute on special teams quickly allowed him to pass Tyrion Davis-Price on the RB depth chart in San Francisco. The Georgia Tech product looks primed to open his second NFL season as the team's No. 3 back behind All-Pro Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell, two RBs that have had...
