Erik Gustafsson Sits Out Sunday's Game

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Erik Gustafsson will come out of the lineup for Sunday's contest against Edmonton. He will be a healthy scratch for the third time this season. The Red Wings brought Gustafsson in on a two-year, $4 million contract this offseason to add some offense to the blue line, but the Swedish rearguard has been a disappointment so far. Despite averaging over three minutes of power-play time (3:19), Gustafsson has only two assists with 10 shots in six games for the season. Justin Holl also takes a seat on Sunday, with Olli Maatta and Albert Johansson drafted into the lineup.

Erik Gustafsson Tallies Three Assists Versus Toronto

New York Rangers defenseman Erik Gustafsson enjoyed his reunion with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday, producing three assists in a 5-2 win. With the game tied at two in the third period, Gustafsson set up Braden Schneider in an even-strength situation and helped Artemi Panarin register a power-play goal. He was also eager to get a goal against his former team, finishing with three shots on the net. Gustafsson has ended an eight-game dry spell with four points in two games, but he's stuck on the third defensive pairing when everybody is healthy, making it difficult for him to provide consistent offense.

Erik Gustafsson Traded To Toronto

The Toronto Maple Leafs continued to rework their backline with another move on Tuesday, trading for defenseman Erik Gustafsson. The team gave up fellow blue-liner Rasmus Sandin and also received a 2023 first-round draft pick in the deal. Gustafsson has played a major part in Washington this season due to John Carlson's (face) injury and boasts 38 points through 61 games. He will likely have a tough time replicating the numbers in Toronto, with the Maple Leafs blue line now full of quality. Meanwhile, Sandin, who's also been in fine form this season, should get a bigger role in D.C., which will boost his fantasy value. The 22-year-old has tallied 20 points across 52 outings with 58 shots on goal, 113 hits and 59 blocks.

Erik Gustafsson Delivers Three Assists

Washington Capitals defenseman Erik Gustafsson picked up three assists in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Panthers. Two of the helpers came with the man advantage. The Swedish rearguard has been quarterbacking the first power-play unit ever since John Carlsson (face) got sidelined, but these are his first power-play points since the last game of 2022. For the season overall, Gustafsson has notched 33 points in 56 games with 106 shots, 49 hits and 51 blocks. There hasn't been any info regarding Carlsson's possible return, so Gustafsson will continue to play a big role on the Washington blue line for the foreseeable future.

Erik Gustafsson Tallies Two Assists

Washington Capitals defenseman Erik Gustafsson grabbed two assists as the team beat Columbus 4-3 in overtime Tuesday. He helped to set up Trevor van Riemsdyk on Washington's third goal and also had a hand on Evgeny Kuznetsov's game-winner just 26 seconds into the extra frame. The Swedish rearguard has returned to prominence this season with 22 assists and 29 points in 52 games. He has been fairly quiet lately, but Gustafsson has done a good job filling in for John Carlson (face) and deserves to be monitored in all fantasy leagues.

Erik Gustafsson Nets A Hat Trick Against Toronto

Washington Capitals defenseman Erik Gustafsson became an unlikely hat-trick hero in Saturday's matchup against Toronto, lifting the team to a 5-2 victory. He had one goal in each period and these are his first markers of the campaign. The Swedish blue-liner was plus-three for the game and added five shots, one block and two hits to his line in 19:13 of ice time. Prior to Gustafsson, only two Capitals defensemen had scored a regular-season hat trick, and Sergei Gonchar was the last one to do it in 2000. It was a great performance from the 30-year-old, but fantasy managers shouldn't get too excited, as Gustafsson previously needed 13 outings to grab three points, and he's managed just 13 points in 32 games for the whole season.

Erik Gustafsson A Game-Time Call For Sunday

Washington Capitals defenseman Erik Gustafsson (undisclosed) is regarded as a game-time decision for Sunday's matchup against the Jets. His status is up in the air due to him leaving the morning skate early with an undisclosed injury. Gustafsson has yet to miss a game this season and he will be desperate to remain in the lineup, especially in a situation where he has logged some really good minutes lately due to injuries. The 30-year-old has produced 10 points -- all via assists -- in 30 games this season with 40 shots, 22 hits and 29 blocks.

Erik Gustafsson Records Three Power-Play Helpers

Washington Capitals defenseman Erik Gustafsson had himself quite a night against Edmonton on Monday, finishing a 5-4 victory with three power-play assists. He was a busy man all over the place, adding one shot, three blocks, two penalty minutes and two hits to his tally while finishing with a minus-one rating in 24:33 of ice time. With the Capitals blue line having suffered a few injury blows, Gustafsson has moved to the first power-play unit and it's helped him quickly double his points tally for the year. He looks like a useful short-term addition for fantasy teams, although Gustafsson's value will deteriorate quickly once John Carlson (lower body) and Dmitry Orlov (lower body) are ready to play again.

Erik Gustafsson Rejoins Lineup On Friday

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Erik Gustafsson will replace Calvin de Haan (illness) in the lineup on Friday against Nashville, rejoining the action after sitting out one game as a healthy scratch. The Swedish blue-liner has notched six points in 26 games this season with 31 shots, 20 hits and 26 blocks. He hasn't given fantasy managers a lot, but Gustafsson sits on the second power-play unit, and he'll at least be a decent DFS option Friday night against a team that has a 78.2 percent penalty kill.

Erik Gustafsson Makes Second Blackhawks Debut On Friday

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Erik Gustafsson will replace Ian Mitchell in the lineup on Friday against New Jersey. The 29-year-old officially rejoined the club on a one-year deal at the start of the week and he'll look to replicate some of his old form. Gustafsson had a wonderful 60-point campaign for Chicago in 2018-19. It's unlikely that he'll reach the same highs again, but he's a beast on the power play and will get minutes on the second unit Friday night. Kevin Lankinen will make his season debut in goal, while Adam Gaudette takes over from Ryan Carpenter on the fourth line.

Erik Gustafsson Signs With Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks have signed defenseman Erik Gustafsson to a one-year, $800k contract on Sunday. The 29-year-old, who was previously on a PTO with the New York Islanders, will begin his second stint in Chicago - the organization in which he posted his career-best 60-point season back in 2018-2019. Gustafsson will likely play on the team's third defensive pair and should hold down a role on the second power-play unit as well. The Swedish native has played with the Flames, Flyers and Canadiens over the past two seasons.

Erik Gustafsson Joins Islanders On Professional Tryout

Defenseman Erik Gustafsson has signed a professional tryout contract (PTO) to join the New York Islanders in training camp this week. The 29-year-old, who logged 12 points (one goal, 11 assists) in split time with the Flyers and Canadiens last season, will presumably attempt to secure a spot on the Isles' third defensive pairing. Gustafsson has established himself as a strong offensive blueliner in his five NHL season (highlighted by a 60-point campaign in 2018-2019 with the Hawks) but has bounced around a bit due to issues in his own zone. The Swedish native could carry fantasy value as a depth defenseman in deeper formats should he make the team.

Erik Gustafsson Inserted Back Into Lineup Versus Bruins

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Erik Gustafsson will dress on his team's third defensive pair while facing off against the Boston Bruins on Wednesday. The 28-year-old, who was a healthy scratch in his team's last contest on Sunday, re-enters the lineup with five assists, two power-play points and eight shots in eight games. The offensive Swedish defenseman isn't the most trustworthy rearguard when it comes to play in his own end but he does carry fantasy appeal due to his ability with the puck. If he can cement his place in the Flyers' lineup, Gustafsson could serve as an intriguing option in deep fantasy leagues.
