Josh Morrissey News
Winnipeg Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey wrote his name in history on Tuesday night by becoming the team's first-ever blue-liner to post four assists in a single game. He put on a playmaking clinic in a 6-3 victory over New Jersey. Two of Morrissey's helpers came on the power play. Morrissey is also now the second rearguard in Jets history with multiple four-point games, joining Dustin Byfuglien. The 28-year-old set himself very high standards with a 76-point campaign last season, but Morrissey isn't far from matching his output in 2023-24, with him averaging just 0.04 points fewer. In 15 outings, Morrissey has had one goal and 13 assists.
Winnipeg Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey has fully healed from a lower-body injury suffered during the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs and is ready to start a new campaign. "Been taking my time with it, really trying to do it right, using all the different modalities and things you can do," Morrissey told NHL.com about his injury. "I'm 100 percent ready to go. No lingering issues at all." Morrissey had a huge breakout campaign in 2022-23 with 76 points (16 goals, 60 assists) in 78 games, more than doubling his previous career-high in scoring. It will be hard to replicate it during the upcoming campaign, but he will no doubt play a major role for the Jets again.
Winnipeg Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey has been ruled out for the rest of the first-round series against Vegas after he suffered a lower-body injury in Saturday's Game 3. He was injured in a collision with Golden Knights defenseman Zach Whitecloud and logged just 1:14 of action in the contest. This is an awful blow for the Jets, as Morrissey has played a huge part for the team this season on both ends of the ice, logging 60 assists and 76 points in 78 regular-season outings with 89 hits and 119 blocks. Following Morrissey's exit, Neal Pionk took on a lot of extra shifts and finished with a whopping 41:08 of ice time in a double-overtime game. He tied a franchise record for most points and assists in a playoff game with three helpers, and Pionk appears set to play a massive role for the rest of the way in the series.
Winnipeg Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey logged a goal and two assists in Monday's 6-2 win over San Jose, setting a new franchise record for most multi-point games in a season by a defenseman. Dustin Byfuglien had held the mark with 19 games since 2011-12, but Monday marked Morrissey's 20th such outing in 2022-23. Morrissey's scoring pace has dropped significantly at the end of the season, but he is still averaging close to a point per game, having tallied 16 goals and 59 assists in 77 outings. Blake Wheeler and Marc Savard are the only players in franchise history to post more assists in one season.
