Rasmus Andersson News
Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson was the main man in Monday's 4-3 overtime triumph at Seattle, posting two assists and firing in the game-winning goal with 3:28 played in the extra frame. The 27-year-old made a mark all over the ice, generating a game-high six shots while blocking two efforts from the opposition and delivering one hit. Andersson reached the 10-point mark with his Monday's efforts. He has posted three goals and seven assists in 14 games, with 37 shots on goal and 34 blocks. The Flames are playing much better lately and Andersson is benefiting from the improved form, grabbing half of his 10 points in the past four games.
Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson will remain sidelined this week after NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman upheld his four-game suspension. Andersson received the suspension for a high hit on Columbus forward Patrik Laine last week. The NHLPA appealed the suspension on Andersson's behalf at the weekend but to no avail. The Swedish rearguard will sit out the second game of the suspension on Tuesday against the Rangers and will be eligible to return to action next Wednesday versus the Stars.
The National Hockey League Players' Association has appealed the four-game suspension handed out to Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson for his hit on Blue Jackets forward Patrik Laine Friday night in Columbus. It appeared Andersson made direct contact with the head of Laine in the dying seconds of the Flames' 3-1 loss and the league responded with a four-game ban. For fantasy managers, it would still be prudent to keep Andersson on your bench as he will certainly miss time moving forward, regardless of the upcoming decision. The Swede has notched a goal and three points along with 14 blocked shots across his first five games this season.
Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson has officially appealed his four-game suspension. He sat out his first game of the suspension Sunday versus Detroit. If there's no change to the length of Andersson's suspension, the Swedish blue-liner will be forced to skip an entire week of action, including a special Heritage Classic matchup against Edmonton this coming Sunday. Calgary struggled badly against the Red Wings and lost 6-2. Chris Tanev replaced Andersson as Noah Hanifin's partner on the first defensive pairing and both finished the contest with a minus-two rating. Andersson's absence has also resulted in changes on the power-play units, as Hanifin moved up on Sunday and MacKenzie Weegar joined the second unit.
