Thatcher Demko News
Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko (knee) has been ruled out for Game 1 of the second-round series against Edmonton. He was sidelined for the final five games against Nashville in the opening round and won't be ready for the start of the new series either. Game 1 is scheduled for Wednesday. Arturs Silovs is on track to make his fourth consecutive start between the sticks. The 23-year-old has filled in admirably for Demko, going 2-1-o against the Predators with one shutout and only five total goals allowed. But he faces a much tougher challenge in the second round against Connor McDavid & Co.
Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko is listed as week to week with an undisclosed injury. The ailment kept him out of Tuesday's 4-1 Game 2 loss to the Nashville Predators and he was originally questionable for the remainder of the series but now it appears he's likely done for the first round. Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet said that the ailment is not related to the late-season knee injury that cost the American 14 games. "We're going to evaluate him today on something," Tocchet said. "It wasn't the old injury and that's all I've really got for you guys." Demko was excellent this season, posting a 2.45 goals-against average and a 2.45 save percentage in 51 games. Casey DeSmith started and stopped just 12 of the 15 shots he faced in the loss.
Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko will miss Tuesday's Game 2 against Nashville and is considered questionable for the rest of the series due to a lower-body injury. The Canucks No. 1 only recently returned to action after missing five weeks with a knee injury. He saved 20 of 22 shots in Game 1 against the Predators, helping Vancouver to a 4-2 win. Casey DeSmith, who has previously featured just once in the playoffs, will take over the crease while Demko heals. DeSmith has had an up-and-down year in Vancouver and posted a 12-9-6 record during the regular season, allowing 2.89 goals with a .896 save percentage.
Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko (knee) will be back between the pipes for Tuesday's contest against the Calgary Flames. The American netminder has missed the past 14 games with a knee injury suffered during a March 9 contest against the Winnipeg Jets. "I only missed about a month here, which is good, and just having attention to detail, staying engaged, going through some old videos and staying sharp mentally and obviously it will be a big game for me," Demko said Monday. The Canucks enter Tuesday's contest sitting atop the Pacific Division, five points ahead of the Edmonton Oilers with two games to go. The Oilers still have an outside shot at passing the Canucks with three games left in their regular season.
