Anthony Solometo Struggling At Double-A

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitching prospect Anthony Solometo has had a rough start to the season at Double-A. In 33 innings of work, the 21-year-old southpaw has posted a poor 6.27 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, and a 21:24 BB:K ratio. Solometo got a taste of a Double-A ball last summer, where he held a slightly improved 4.35 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and a 14:50 BB:K ratio in 51 innings. The former second-round pick has performed very well in the lower levels of the minor leagues but has yet to find his stride at Double-A. Solometo is considered the 64th-best prospect in all of baseball on MLB.com, so dynasty managers should expect him to turn things around fairly soon. He should be expected to make his major league debut next season.

Anthony Solometo Impresses Out Of Bullpen

Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect Anthony Solometo is looking good during his second season of pro ball. The Pirates selected the southpaw in the second round last year, signing him to an overslot $2.8 million deal that lured him away from his commitment to North Carolina. He has a mid-90s fastball that is known for its impressive command. Solometo can locate it anywhere he desires, and he is never hesitant to throw it. He also has a great slider with nasty horizontal break that complements his heater nicely. The offerings form a valuable one-two punch that should bode well for his progression through the ranks of affiliated ball. Solometo is also working on a changeup, though it's merely a mediocre tertiary offering at this point. Solometo was drafted and projects as a starting pitcher, and two-thirds of his usage at Bradenton has come in the rotation this season. However, the Marauders used him out of the bullpen on Friday, sending him to the mound for four innings of relief work. The 19-year-old certainly impressed; he struck out six batters and didn't allow an opposing batter to reach base.
