Orioles Acquire Blaze Alexander From Diamondbacks

The Baltimore Orioles are acquiring infielder Blaze Alexander from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday in exchange for pitchers Kade Strowd and Wellington Aracena, and infielder Jose Mejia, a source told Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic. Alexander will head to the American League after slashing .237/.322/.366 with a .688 OPS, 10 home runs, 49 RBI, 50 runs scored, and seven stolen bases in 135 games in his first two major-league seasons in Arizona. The 26-year-old former 11th-round pick in 2018 will most likely serve in a bench role in his new home in Baltimore, which will be a downgrade in fantasy with a less clear path to playing time. The 26-year-old is under team control through the 2030 season. Alexander saw most of the playing time in the second half last year at third base after the D-backs traded Eugenio Suarez, but with Alexander now gone, it could be Jordan Lawlar's spot to lose.

Blaze Alexander Could Shift to the Outfield

Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Blaze Alexander could see extended time in the outfield during the upcoming season. On Tuesday, the Diamondbacks acquired third baseman Nolan Arenado from the St. Louis Cardinals. Following the trade, GM Mike Hazen noted that he envisions Arenado playing on a daily basis at third base, which will limit Alexander's opportunities at the hot corner. However, Hazen said there are still "plenty of opportunities available." Alex D'Agostino of Sports Illustrated reported that since Alexander saw limited time in the outfield last season, the team could look to increase that, as it would be his primary path to playing time. In 2025, Alexander saw six games in the outfield compared to 68 in the infield. Through 74 MLB games last summer, Alexander held a .230/.323/.383 line with 12 doubles and seven home runs. If he can see ample time in the outfield during spring training, he could be worth monitoring in deeper NL-only formats.

Blaze Alexander Returning to the Lineup on Monday

Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Blaze Alexander (elbow) is back in the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the San Francisco Giants. Alexander will make his return to the lineup after exiting early during Sunday's game due to an elbow contusion. Luckily, Alexander was able to avoid serious injury after getting hit by a pitch on the left elbow. He'll cover third base and bat fifth during Monday's game. The 26-year-old is putting together a strong season at the plate and is worth a look in at least deep leagues.

Blaze Alexander Leaves with Elbow Injury

Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Blaze Alexander (elbow) was forced to make an early exit from Sunday's game against the Minnesota Twins. Alexander appeared to be in significant pain after being hit by a pitch in the left elbow. He was pulled out of the contest in exchange for Ildemaro Vargas who took over at second base. Before exiting, Alexander was 0-for-1 with a run scored. The assumption is that he'll undergo further testing to determine the severity of the injury. For now, fantasy managers should consider Alexander as day-to-day. Alexander has been crushing the ball in the second half, so hopefully he won't miss much time.

Diamondbacks Plan to Try Blaze Alexander in Center Field

Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said that infielder Blaze Alexander will be moved "around the field" and the team is going to "try Blaze in center field a little bit from time to time," per Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com. Alexander had been playing third base since the trade deadline, but Arizona recalled top prospect Jordan Lawlar on Friday, and Lawlar will be used on the left side of the infield. Alexander has exclusively played the infield in 110 career games at the big-league level, but it appears the team believes he can handle a true super-utility role. The 26-year-old is slashing .234/.331/.441 with seven home runs, 19 RBI, 21 runs scored, and two stolen bases in 168 plate appearances this season. As he gains additional positional versatility, Alexander could be a useful depth piece in deep fantasy leagues.

Blaze Alexander Homers, Drives in Four on Friday

Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Blaze Alexander did most of the heavy lifting in a 6-1 win over the Rockies on Friday, going 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, and four RBI in the contest. The 26-year-old has been getting regular playing time since Eugenio Suarez departed for Seattle and is making the most of it, hitting safely in six of the last seven games, going 8-for-25 (.320) over that stretch with a pair of doubles and two home runs. The right-handed hitter has a 65.1 percent contact rate, 16.4 percent swinging-strike rate, and is striking out at a 29.9 percent clip, though, so this stretch of solid hitting may fizzle soon. Nevertheless, he does have a 20-homer season to his name in the minors and has stolen double-digit bases on multiple occasions, so there is potential for fantasy production here, but outside of NL-only leagues, the former 11th-rounder can probably be left on the waiver wire.

Ildemaro Vargas Lands on Injured List, Blaze Alexander Recalled

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced on Wednesday that they placed infielder Ildemaro Vargas (foot) on the 10-day injured list with a fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot and recalled infielder Blaze Alexander from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move. Vargas was hit by a pitch on Tuesday against the Chicago White Sox and is now wearing a walking boot. The 33-year-old backup infielder won't be able to return until the second half of the season. Alexander will serve as infield depth in Vargas' place. The 26-year-old former 11th-round pick in 2018 made his major-league debut a year ago and hit .247 (41-for-166) with three homers, 21 RBI, three steals and 19 runs scored in 61 games played. Alexander has the ability to play multiple infield spots and center field, but with Eugenio Suarez (hand) expected back by Friday, he'll serve in a bench role for now.

Blaze Alexander Diagnosed With Grade 1 Oblique Strain

Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Blaze Alexander (oblique) was diagnosed with a Grade 1 oblique strain and is expected to miss "weeks" not "days." Jack Sommers of Sports Illustrated noted that the young infielder may not be ready in time for Opening Day. Fantasy managers should continue monitoring his status during camp as he slowly works his way back to the field. Last season the 25-year-old made his MLB debut and held a .247/.321/.343 line with seven doubles and three home runs. He held a 15:49 BB:K ratio. He generated a weak .258 xwOBA with a low .281 xSLG. However, he did draw walks at a modest 8.1 percent rate. While sidelined fantasy managers should expect Geraldo Perdomo to see most of the starts at shortstop with Garrett Hampson operating as the No. 2 option.

Blaze Alexander In Line For Super-Utility Role?

MLB.com's Steve Gilbert wonders if the Arizona Diamondbacks would consider turning shortstop Blaze Alexander into a Chris Taylor-type of multi-positional player moving forward. Alexander has appeared at shortstop, second base and third base at the major-league level, but he has yet to play the outfield. The 25-year-old is an above-average athlete that can run, and he also possesses a strong arm, so he shouldn't have a ton of issues learning the outfield. Using Alexander at other positions in the outfield would make him much more valuable and give manager Torey Lovullo a lot more options in game. An 11th-round selection in 2018, Alexander made his big-league debut in 2024 for the Snakes and saw extensive action, appearing in 61 games and slashing .247/.321/.343 with a .664 OPS, three home runs, 21 RBI, three steals and 19 runs scored in 185 plate appearances.

Blaze Alexander Heating Up

Arizona Diamondbacks middle infielder Blaze Alexander has begun to heat up with another big performance in Tuesday's victory versus the rival San Francisco Giants. Alexander went 3-for-4 with two runs and a RBI on Tuesday and now has eight hits over his last 16 at-bats with four runs and three RBI. Overall, the 24-year-old has been putting together a solid rookie campaign, but he will need to keep his hot streak up with shortstops Geraldo Perdomo (knee) and Jordan Lawlar (thumb) both on rehab assignments. Alexander is worth riding with the way his bat is swinging at the moment, but is nothing more than a streamer in redraft leagues, especially with Lawlar and Perdomo eventually returning.
