Brandon Woodruff Returning to Milwaukee in 2026

Right-hander Brandon Woodruff accepted his one-year, $22.025 million qualifying offer and will return to the Milwaukee Brewers for the 2026 season, a source told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. Woodruff declined a $20 million mutual option for next year to become a free agent earlier this offseason, but he'll now return to the Brew Crew for at least one more season. 2025 was an injury-plagued one for the talented right-hander. He got a late start while recovering from right-shoulder surgery before suffering a few setbacks on his rehab assignment. Woodruff was shut down early with a lat strain in September, although he's expected to be ready to roll for spring training in February. He appeared in only 64 2/3 innings during the regular season, but he was good when available, posting a 3.20 ERA and 0.91 WHIP with 83 strikeouts and 14 walks. Woodruff was once a fantasy ace, but he comes with a bit more risk heading into 2026, going into his age-33 season coming off multiple injuries.

Brandon Woodruff Declines Mutual Option for 2026

The Milwaukee Brewers announced on Monday that right-hander Brandon Woodruff (lat) declined his $20 million mutual option for the 2026 season and will officially become a free agent. Despite ending an injury-plagued season with a lat injury in late September, Woodruff will decline his 2026 option and take a $10 million buyout instead. The 32-year-old veteran hurler got a late start in 2025 while recovering from right-shoulder surgery that kept him out for the entire 2024 season. He suffered a setback while on his minor-league rehab assignment after being hit by a comebacker, but when he finally returned to Milwaukee, he was solid, going 7-2 with a 3.20 ERA and 0.91 WHIP with 83 punchouts and 14 walks over 12 games started. Woodruff is expected to be ready for spring training, but at his age and with his new team unknown, he'll be a high-risk, high-reward fantasy starting pitcher.

Brandon Woodruff Expects to Be Ready for Opening Day

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff (lat) missed the National League Division Series against the Chicago Cubs and the NL Championship Series versus the Los Angeles Dodgers, and would not have pitched in the World Series had the team advanced due to a right-lat strain. However, Woodruff should be ready well ahead of spring training in February and expects to be ready for the start of the 2026 regular season. The veteran right-hander was shut down with his lat strain late in September. The good news is that his injury isn't related to his right-shoulder injury that required surgery and caused him to get a late start to the 2025 season. When healthy this year, Woodruff looked good, posting a 3.20 ERA and 0.91 WHIP with 83 strikeouts and 14 walks in 12 starts over 64 2/3 innings. He's a top-end starting pitcher in fantasy when healthy, but he has more health concerns than ever before. The Brewers and Woodruff hold a $20 million mutual option for 2026 season that comes with a $10 million buyout.

Brandon Woodruff Will Not be on NLCS Roster

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff (lat) will not be on the National League Championship Series roster. NLCS Game 1 is on Monday against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Milwaukee, but the right-hander has yet to begin playing catch, so there is no need to include him. The 32-year-old is working his way back from a right-lat strain and hasn't pitched since September 17. While it seems like a long shot, the veteran hurler has not ruled out the possibility of pitching in the World Series if the Brewers are able to advance past the Dodgers, although he could end up coming out of the bullpen rather than starting games after such a long layoff.

Brandon Woodruff Will Not Pitch in NLDS

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff (lat) will not pitch in the National League Division Series against the division-rival Chicago Cubs that start on Saturday in Milwaukee, according to manager Pat Murphy. The good news is that Woodruff's lat injury is a separate issue from his right-shoulder surgery that was responsible for his late start to the 2025 season. The Brewers are not ruling out Woodruff being available if they advance past Chicago to the NLCS, per Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. The 32-year-old veteran is trying to recover from a right-lat strain that landed him on the 15-day injured list two weeks ago, but the fact that he has yet to resume throwing doesn't bode well for his chances of pitching in the NLCS if the Brew Crew advance. The two-time All-Star was limited to only 12 starts this year, but when available, he was solid, posting a 3.20 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, and 83:14 K:BB in 64 2/3 innings. Woodruff's best bet to return later in October might be in a relief role.

Brandon Woodruff has Moderate Lat Strain

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff (lat) is dealing with a moderate lat strain, manager Pat Murphy told reporters. Woodruff landed on the 15-day IL on Sunday after the injury cropped up during his bullpen session on Saturday. The 32-year-old will be eligible to pitch when the Brewers begin the NLDS on Oct. 4, though it remains unclear if he'll be ready to return after a minimum IL stint. Going without Woodruff for any of the postseason would be an unfortunate development for Milwaukee, which owns the best record in the National League. Although Woodruff only made 12 starts during the regular season, he has been a key contributor to the Brewers' success this year. Woodruff went 7-2 with a 3.20 ERA, a .91 WHIP, and 83:14 K:BB in 64 2/3 innings.

Brandon Woodruff Goes on 15-Day Injured List With Lat Strain

The Milwaukee Brewers announced that they have placed right-hander Brandon Woodruff (lat) on the 15-day injured list with a lat strain and recalled southpaw Robert Gasser from Triple-A Nashville. Woodruff went on the IL retroactive to Sept. 18, meaning he'll be eligible to pitch when the playoff-bound Brewers open the NLDS on Oct. 4. It's unclear, however, whether Woodruff will be ready by then. We do know that Woodruff's regular season is over after he went 7-2 with a 3.20 ERA, a .91 WHIP, 83 strikeouts, and 14 walks over 12 starts and 64 2/3 innings. After missing all of 2024 with shoulder problems, the 32-year-old has once again looked like a front-line starter this season. The Brewers are left to hope he'll be available in October.

Brewers Reshuffling Their Rotation, Brandon Woodruff Lined Up for Wednesday

Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the Brewers are reshuffling their starting rotation and will push right-hander Brandon Woodruff back to next Wednesday in a fine matchup for fantasy purposes against the Los Angeles Angels. Woodruff was originally on track to make his next start on Saturday against the division-rival St. Louis Cardinals after last pitching on Sept. 6, but they'll give him extra rest and use rookie Jacob Misiorowski on Saturday instead. It's not a big surprise after the 32-year-old Woodruff didn't make his 2025 debut until July while recovering from offseason surgery on his shoulder. He's been solid for fantasy managers upon his return, though, going 6-2 with a 3.32 ERA and 0.955 WHIP with 74 strikeouts in 59 2/3 frames over his 11 starts. Start him next week against the Halos.

Chad Patrick to Start on Sunday, Brandon Woodruff Pushed Back

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Chad Patrick will start Sunday's series finale against the San Francisco Giants. Righty Brandon Woodruff had been in line to toe the rubber, but he'll instead face the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday. Patrick, a 27-year-old rookie, has made 20 appearances (19 starts) and posted a 3.61 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP and 99:32 K:BB over 99 2/3 innings this season. On paper, he has a favorable matchup against a Giants offense that ranks 25th in the majors in runs and wOBA. As a bonus, Patrick won't have to face designated hitter/first baseman Rafael Devers, who's resting.

Brandon Woodruff Leaves Due To a Calf Cramp

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff (calf) continued his strong return from a shoulder injury with a strong outing against the Mariners on Monday. He did leave early due to injury, but the good news is that it was a calf cramp and nothing related to his arm. Woodruff said that it should be a "non-issue" going forward, and manager Pat Murphy said the team opted to play it safe. Woodruff cruised through six innings on 62 pitches and is 2-0 with a 1.65 ERA, 2.85 FIP, and 23 strikeouts in his 16 1/3 innings since returning from the injured list. Woodruff's victory gives the Brewers 11 straight wins, and they became the first National League team with 60 wins this season. The veteran righty's next outing is currently lined up for Sunday afternoon against the Marlins.
