Brandon Sproat Stumbles In Season Debut

New York Mets starting pitching prospect Brandon Sproat allowed three hits and four earned runs across two innings of work in his season opener with Triple-A Syracuse. He allowed three free passes and struck out three batters. He ran into most of his trouble in the third innings when he served up two consecutive walks and then allowed a two-run single to Marcelo Mayer, which broke the game open. Sproat was in contention to make the Opening Day roster but was eventually sent to Triple-A Syracuse to continue his development. Last season, the Florida product progressed through the minor leagues fairly quickly, boasting a 2.05 ERA with a 0.94 WHIP across 87 2/3 innings split between High-A and Double-A. He ran into trouble during his first taste of Triple-A last summer, and these struggles appear to still remain. Fantasy managers should monitor his status, but he will need to progress much further at Triple-A before reaching Queens.

Mets Send Brandon Sproat, 12 Others To Minor-League Camp

The New York Mets reassigned right-handed pitching prospect Brandon Sproat, the team's top prospect per MLB Pipeline, to minor-league camp on Tuesday. In addition to Sproat, the Mets also reassigned right-handers Ty Adcock, Adbert Alzolay, Dom Hamel (No. 26), Oliver Ortega and Blade Tidwell (No. 16), infielders Ryan Clifford (No. 4), Luke Ritter and Jett Williams (No. 2), outfielders Drew Gilbert (No. 11), Rafael Ortega and Alex Ramirez, and catcher Kevin Parada. Sproat is expected to make his big-league debut with the Mets in 2025, but even with left-hander Sean Manaea (oblique) and right-hander Frankie Montas (lat) opening the year on the injured list, he will start at Triple-A Syracuse. In his Grapefruit League debut last Friday against the Nationals, Sproat tossed two scoreless innings with a strikeout. The 24-year-old is old for a prospect, but his fastball-changeup combo and strikeout upside make him stash-worthy in NL-only leagues.

Brandon Sproat Shines In Spring Debut

New York Mets pitching prospect Brandon Sproat tossed two clean innings in his spring debut on Friday. The right-hander tallied one punchout and did not allow a single baserunner. He tallied the punchout against Nationals outfield prospect Robert Hassell III, who has been swinging one of the hottest bats during the early part of camp. Sproat should be in contention for an early season MLB debut given the injuries to Sean Manaea (oblique) and Frankie Montas (lat). Last summer, the 24-year-old made his professional debut. He began the campaign with High-A and was able to reach Triple-A by the end of the summer. Across 62 1/3 innings with Double-A, Sproat held a strong 2.45 ERA with a 0.87 WHIP. However, in his first look at Triple-A, he held a high 7.53 ERA with a 1.64 WHIP across 28 2/3 innings. Given his struggles at that level, he will likely open the season at Triple-A but may only need a brief stint before reaching the majors.

Brandon Sproat Tinkering With Sinker

New York Mets starting pitching prospect Brandon Sproat has begun tinkering with a sinker. Sproat made his professional debut last summer and relied heavily on his four-seamer and changeup. However, in the offseason, the right-hander has begun working on his sinker. The Mets as a team have aggressively developed sinkers in their pitching staff. Sproat only threw a handful of them last season but is pleased with how it has evolved over the winter. The top prospect in the Mets system opened the campaign at the High-A level and eventually ended the season with Triple-A. At Double-A, the Florida product held a strong 2.45 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP across 62 2/3 innings. However, at Triple-A, Sproat took a step back as he held a 7.53 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP. He will likely begin his 2025 season with Syracuse but should be in the mix for an early 2025 debut.

Brandon Sproat Should Reach The Majors In The Second Half

According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, New York Mets starting pitching prospect Brandon Sproat will likely make his big league debut sometime in the second half. Sammon noted the top prospect in the New York system will open the season at the Triple-A level. Last summer, Sproat made his professional debut and performed very well. He began the season with High-A Brooklyn and held a 1.07 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP across 25 1/3 innings of work. He then moved up to Double-A, where he struck out 77 batters in just 62 1/3 innings. Across that stint, the right-hander posted a 2.45 ERA with a strong 0.87 WHIP. However, once he reached Triple-A, the Florida product took a step back, holding a hefty 7.53 ERA with a 1.64 WHIP across 28 2/3 innings. Fantasy managers should monitor his progress during spring training. The 24-year-old should only be viewed as a stash candidate in deeper redraft formats, as he may not contend for a big league debut until the second half of the campaign.

Brandon Sproat Struggles In Triple-A Debut

New York Mets starting pitching prospect Brandon Sproat made his Triple-A debut on Thursday evening. Unfortunately, the former second-round selection struggled as he served seven hits, six earned runs, and three free passes across four 2/3 innings. He struck out four. Sproat has progressed through the minor leagues very quickly this season as he made his professional debut at High-A and now sits at the top level of the minor leagues. Across 87 2/3 innings split across High and Double-A, the former Florida Gator posted a 2.05 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and a 31:110 BB:K ratio. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Sproat's progression at Triple-A very closely, as he may only need a handful of strong outings to prove he is ready for the big leagues.

Brandon Sproat Headed To Triple-A

New York Mets starting pitching prospect Brandon Sproat is being promoted to Triple-A, according to SNY. Sproat made his professional debut this season after being selected in the second round of last year's draft. At High-A, the right-hander logged 25 innings with a stellar 1.07 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. Then, with Double-A Binghamton, Sproat held a 2.45 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and an incredible 15:77 BB:K ratio in 62 innings of work. In his final start at Double-A, the Florida product tallied a season-high 13 punchouts across five shutout innings. This promotion now opens the door for a potential major league debut during the stretch run. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to his first few starts at Triple-A Syracuse, as he may only need a quick tune-up before heading to Queens.

Brandon Sproat Dazzles On Friday Evening

New York Mets starting pitching prospect Brandon Sproat continued his incredible professional debut season on Friday by tossing five two-hit innings with a season-high 13 punchouts. The former second-round selection in last year's began the season at High-A and needed only 25 innings to earn a promotion as he logged a near-perfect 1.07 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. Then, through his first 62 innings at Double-A, the right-hander has posted a strong 2.45 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and a 15:77 BB:K ratio. Sproat could be in line to earn a promotion to Triple-A or even move directly to the major leagues, as several top pitching prospects have done this season. Sproat is worth stashing in deeper NL-only leagues for now, as he is not slowing down and is continuing to prove that he could make an impact in the big leagues this season.

Brandon Sproat Stellar In First Professional Season

New York Mets starting pitching prospect Brandon Sproat has been incredible through the first half of his first professional season. The Florida product opened the season at High-A, where he logged 25 innings to the tune of a 1.07 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and a 16:33 BB:K ratio. Then, since moving up to Double-A on May 13, the right-hander has posted a dominant 2.05 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and a 12:52 BB:K ratio. Sproat tallied a career-high 10 punchouts on June 2 and has posted five quality starts while at Double-A. While the former second-round pick may not reach the majors this season, he has showcased elite potential and should be rostered in all keeper and dynasty leagues going forward.

Brandon Sproat Continues Incredible Run With Nine Punchouts On Thursday
