Brandon Woodruff Fans Six in Latest Rehab Start, Nearing a Return?

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) allowed three earned runs on five hits (one homer) while walking one and striking out six in 5 1/3 innings for a win with High-A Wisconsin on Tuesday in his latest minor-league rehab start. Woodruff got up to 82 pitches in the outing, so it's possible that his next start could come in the big leagues with the Brewers. The 33-year-old veteran has been on the 15-day injured list since late April with inflammation in his right shoulder after his velocity dropped off the table. There was concern from the Brewers that he might need another shoulder surgery, but Woodruff has been cleared of any structural damage. The former 11th-round pick in 2014 out of Mississippi State University was 2-1 with a 3.60 ERA (3.96 FIP) and 1.03 WHIP with 25 strikeouts and seven walks in 30 innings across six starts with Milwaukee this year before being shut down. The two-time All-Star missed all of 2024 after having shoulder surgery, and his strikeout rate is down considerably at 20.7% after he had a 32.3% strikeout rate in 2025. Woodruff can't be considered a fantasy ace anymore, but he still has value in most fantasy baseball leagues when he's fully healthy, and he's currently rostered in 87% of Yahoo leagues.

Brandon Woodruff Set for Second Rehab Start on Tuesday, MLB Return Imminent?

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) will make his second rehab start in the Arizona Complex League on Tuesday before the Brewers "decide if he's ready to rejoin their rotation," per MLB.com. Woodruff has been sidelined since late April due to right shoulder inflammation. The 33-year-old was effective before being placed on the injured list, recording a 2-1 record with a 3.60 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 25 strikeouts across 30 innings (six starts). However, the veteran right-hander has been battling shoulder issues for multiple seasons now and has not made more than 12 starts in a season since 2022. He was able to throw 68 pitches in his first Complex League start, but allowed five hits and three earned runs across 3 2/3 innings. Woodruff remains worth rostering in deeper fantasy leagues when healthy, but his production is difficult to project given his injury history.

Brandon Woodruff Strikes Out Five in Rehab Start in Arizona Complex League

In his first minor-league rehab start in the Arizona Complex League on Tuesday, Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) gave up three runs on five hits while walking two and striking out five in 3 2/3 innings of work, according to Jack Stern of Brewer Fanatic. Woodruff continued to experiment with a lower arm slot during the outing and leaned heavily on changeups and cutters, with his fastballs averaging under 91 mph. The 33-year-old veteran and two-time All-Star is essentially having to reinvent himself as a pitcher mechanically after more shoulder issues cropped up this season. Woodruff wasn't bad in his six starts, going 2-1 with a 3.60 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 25:7 K:BB in 30 innings, but he developed dead arm because of his mechanics. Remember, he had right-shoulder surgery and missed all of the 2024 season before making just 12 starts last year. It's unclear when he might return to Milwaukee's starting rotation, but when he does, he could be a much different pitcher, and fantasy managers shouldn't expect a ton of swing-and-miss stuff.

Brandon Woodruff Set to Begin Rehab Assignment in the Arizona Complex League

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) has been sent to the Arizona Complex League on a rehab assignment. The 33-year-old has been on the 15-day injured list since late April after experiencing "dead arm" and a drastic drop in velocity during a start against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Woodruff pitched reasonably well before hitting the shelf, recording a 2-1 record with a 3.60 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 25 strikeouts across 30 innings (six starts). However, Woodruff's average fastball velocity was a career-worst 92.3 miles per hour, and his strikeout rate had dropped from 32.3% in 2025 to 20.7% in 2026. The veteran has an extended track record of injury issues at this point, as he's made just 29 starts since the start of the 2023 season. Milwaukee will likely allow him an extended run of rehab starts to try to build him back up to full strength before bringing him back to the big-league rotation.

Brandon Woodruff Could Pitch in ACL Games as Rehab Continues

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) has been sidelined on the 15-day injured list since experiencing a dramatic drop in velocity and a feeling of "dead arm" during a start on April 30 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Woodruff then had a minor procedure to address a cyst in his shoulder joint. He was on track to start against the St. Louis Cardinals on May 27, but he pulled the plug because he didn't feel right. The 33-year-old two-time All-Star made a significant mechanical change during a 42-pitch live batting practice session on Wednesday, lowering his arm slot to help correct the slow creep of bad habits that have accompanied his comeback from right-shoulder surgery. "Ever since surgery, my release point has been getting higher, and I've been pinching my [shoulder] off," Woodruff said. He has bounced back nicely since his BP session on Wednesday, and he could pitch in some Arizona Complex League games soon as he tries to make it back to Milwaukee's starting rotation before the mid-July All-Star break. Woodruff is confident he'll return and make multiple starts before the All-Star break, and because of his track record before shoulder surgery as a fantasy ace, he's currently rostered in 87% of Yahoo leagues.

Brandon Woodruff to Throw Live Batting Practice Next Week

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) will throw a live batting practice session of four ups or 60 pitches next week, according to Jack Stern of Brewer Fanatic. Woodruff is making slow progress after landing on the 15-day injured list in late April with what the team called right-shoulder inflammation. The 33-year-old veteran wasn't pitching terribly before going on the IL, but the two-time All-Star's velocity was noticeably down, and the team initially believed he was dealing with a dead-arm phase. It's worth noting that Woodruff got a late start to the 2025 season after recovering from right-shoulder surgery that wiped out his entire 2024 campaign. While his latest shoulder issue isn't necessarily related, it's more concerning since he recently had surgery on the same arm. It's unclear if Woodruff will need to eventually go on a minor-league rehab assignment, but the Brewers could really use him back after just placing Logan Henderson (back) on the IL. For his track record alone as a fantasy ace before his shoulder issues, Woodruff is worth stashing while he recovers. He is rostered in 87% of Yahoo leagues right now.

Brandon Woodruff Approaching Return, Set to Face Hitters on Friday

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) threw a 30-pitch bullpen on Monday and is "tentatively" scheduled to face live hitters on Friday, per Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. Woodruff has been on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation since he experienced a drastic drop in his velocity during his start against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 30. Woodruff was off to a solid start to 2026 before the injury, posting a 2-1 record with a 3.60 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 25 strikeouts across 30 innings (six starts). However, the 33-year-old has made just 29 starts since the start of the 2023 season and has an extensive history of shoulder issues. He appears to be making progress towards a return in early June, but Woodruff remains a major injury risk for fantasy managers going forward.

Brandon Woodruff Feels Good After Bullpen Session

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) reportedly felt good after throwing a 25-pitch bullpen session on Thursday. Assuming nothing changes in the next few days, Woodruff will throw another bullpen session on Monday. Afterwards, he'll likely throw a simulated game before possibly rejoining the Brewers rotation. It's unclear if he'll require a minor league rehab assignment, but that'll likely depend on how he feels after these sessions. The right-hander hasn't pitched since late April due to right shoulder inflammation. There seems to be a good chance that Woodruff will be back in the mix for the Brewers before the end of May.

Brandon Woodruff to Throw his First Bullpen on Thursday

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) is scheduled to throw his first bullpen session on Thursday since landing on the 15-day injured list, and a return in May remains possible, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. Woodruff was shut down with right-shoulder inflammation on May 1 after he could not top 85 mph with his fastball in his last outing on April 30 against the Arizona Diamondbacks, when he was pulled after just 1 1/3 innings. The 33-year-old veteran had fluid drained from his right shoulder last week and was cleared to resume throwing over the weekend. How his bullpen goes on Thursday should determine how quickly he can return to Milwaukee's starting rotation, but he's not expected to need much time to build his arm back up. The two-time All-Star did not pitch at all in 2024 after having right-shoulder surgery, and he made just 12 starts in 2025. Before his shoulder issues, Woodruff was a fantasy ace, but it's fair to wonder if he can ever get close to that form going forward. Fantasy managers are willing to find out, as he's currently rostered in 87% of Yahoo leagues.

Brandon Woodruff has Fluid Drained From his Right Shoulder

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) had a minor procedure on Tuesday to drain fluid from his right shoulder, and he is tentatively set to resume throwing on Saturday, per Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. Manager Pat Murphy thinks that Woodruff will only need a couple of bullpen sessions before he rejoins the starting rotation. The veteran hurler had a hands-on meeting with renowned Dr. Keith Meister on Tuesday, which was an ominous sign, but instead, Woodruff received positive news, and he could rejoin Milwaukee's starting rotation sooner rather than later. He was placed on the 15-day injured list last Friday after he couldn't get over 85 mph with his fastball in his last start. It's good news for the 33-year-old, but fantasy managers should still be skeptical, and we wouldn't recommend throwing Woodruff back into your starting lineups when he's activated from the IL to make his next start. Remember, Woodruff had right-shoulder surgery that caused him to miss all of 2024, and he made only 12 starts last year due to various injuries, including a lat injury that ended his season early.
