Brendan Rodgers Done for Season

Houston Astros second baseman Brendan Rodgers (back, head) will miss the rest of the season with lumbar spine inflammation. Rodgers made what proved to be his final appearance of the season with the Astros on June 14, when he strained his left oblique and had to go on the 10-day injured list. A little over a month later, Rodgers suffered a concussion and a nasal fracture in his first Triple-A rehab game. Rodgers embarked on another rehab assignment in August, but the Astros had to shut him down a few weeks ago on account of his back issue. Between the nonstop injuries and his poor production when he was healthy, it was a brutal season for Rodgers. After opening 2025 as the Astros' starting baseman, the 29-year-old went on to play 43 games and hit .191/.266/.278 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 128 plate appearances.

Brendan Rodgers Pulled From Rehab Assignment

Houston Astros second baseman Brendan Rodgers (head/back) is dealing with lumbar spine inflammation and has been pulled from his rehab assignment. This continues an injury-riddled season for Rodgers, who landed on the 10-day IL on June 18 with an oblique strain and has faced multiple setbacks since then. In his first Triple-A rehab game on July 18, Rodgers suffered a concussion and a nasal fracture. He had been working back from that until this latest issue cropped up. There's no timeline for Rodgers' return, which doesn't bode well with time running out on the regular season. The 29-year-old opened 2025 as the Astros' starting second baseman, but he hit a brutal .191/.266/.278 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 128 plate appearances before his injury woes began.

Brendan Rodgers Begins Light Jogging, Throwing

Houston Astros second baseman Brendan Rodgers (head) remains in concussion protocol, but he has begun light jogging and throwing. Rodgers originally went on the 10-day injured list in mid-June with an oblique strain. In his first Triple-A rehab game on July 18, he suffered more serious injuries - a concussion and a nasal fracture - after colliding with a teammate. The Astros then transferred Rodgers to the 60-day IL, meaning he won't be eligible to rejoin the club until Aug. 17. That date appears unrealistic, though, as Rodgers remains without a timetable to return. Before going on the IL, the 28-year-old hit just 191/.266/.278 with two home runs in 128 plate appearances. The Astros have used a handful of players at the keystone this season, but longtime second baseman Jose Altuve has gotten the lion's share of time there lately after opening 2025 in the outfield.

Brendan Rodgers Moved to 60-Day Injured List

The Houston Astros announced that they have transferred second baseman Brendan Rodgers (oblique, head) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL. The team selected the contract of first baseman Jon Singleton from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move. Rodgers landed on the IL on June 18 with a strained left oblique, and he suffered new injuries - a concussion and a nasal fracture - during his first Triple-A rehab game on Friday. Consequently, the Astros removed Rodgers from his rehab assignment as they wait for him to heal. Today's shift to the 60-day IL means Rodgers won't be eligible to return until Aug. 17, though he could be out longer than that. Between the injuries and his offensive woes, this has been a season to forget for Rodgers. The 28-year-old hit a meek .191/.266/.278 with two home runs in 128 plate appearances before he went on the IL.

Brendan Rodgers Suffers Concussion, Nasal Fracture

Houston Astros second baseman Brendan Rodgers (oblique, head) suffered a concussion and a nasal fracture on a collision during his first rehab game with Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday. The Astros have returned Rodgers from his rehab assignment and are sending him for further evaluation, according to Chandler Rome of The Athletic. Rodgers has been on the 10-day injured list with a strained oblique since June 15. He had been making progress in his recovery, but thanks to his new injuries, there's no timetable for his return. The 32-year-old was hitting an unsightly .191/.266/.278 with two home runs in 128 plate appearances when he went on the IL.

Brendan Rodgers Exits Early on Friday

Houston Astros infielder Brendan Rodgers (oblique, head) was forced to make an early exit from Friday's rehab game at Triple-A Sugar Land. Rodgers collided with his teammate and suffered a head injury during the third inning of this contest. He was pulled out of the contest and is expected to be examined for a concussion. It's unclear how long he'll be out, but for now he should be considered day-to-day. This was Rodgers first rehab game while he attempts to return from an oblique injury. He was struggling with the bat before the injury and doesn't need to be rostered in fantasy formats.

Brendan Rodgers, Shawn Dubin Progressing in Rehab

Houston Astros second baseman Brendan Rodgers (oblique) and right-hander Shawn Dubin (forearm) are now rehabbing from their injuries at the team's facility in Florida. Rodgers has been out since June 15 with a strained left oblique. He opened the season as the Astros' starting second baseman, but they began cutting his playing time after he slumped to a .191/.266/.278 line with two home runs and 11 RBI in 128 plate appearances. Rodgers could return sometime this month, though the recently promoted Brice Matthews has taken over at the keystone. Dubin, who hasn't pitched since June 20 on account of a forearm strain, has begun throwing off flat ground. There's no timetable for his return, but the Astros will be glad to welcome the 29-year-old back to their bullpen. He pitched to a 1.33 ERA with 18 strikeouts, seven walks, six holds, and a 1.13 WHIP in 20 1/3 innings before going on the IL.

Brendan Rodgers Placed on 10-Day Injured List

The Astros announced that they have placed second baseman Brendan Rodgers (oblique) on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain, retroactive to June 15. In corresponding moves, they optioned right-hander Jason Alexander to Triple-A Sugar Land and recalled infielder Shay Whitcomb and righty Nick Hernandez. While Rodgers has gotten the majority of starts at the keystone for the Astros this year, he has ceded playing time to Mauricio Dubon as the season has progressed. Rodgers has lost his grip on a starting job thanks to a woeful .191/.266/.278 line with two home runs and 11 RBI in 128 plate appearances. The severity of Rodgers' injury is unknown, but oblique strains often lead to lengthy trips to the IL.

Brendan Rodgers Cranks First Long Ball Of 2025

Houston Astros second baseman Brendan Rodgers went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. The former third-overall pick drove in Houston's first three runs of the game with his first homer of the season, but that would be all they'd push across in the outing. Rodgers has gotten steady playing time over the past week or so and has actually been better off right-handed pitching this season (13-for-54). It may not be evident in the box score just yet, but he's making far better contact in his first stint with the Astros, sporting career-highs in average exit velocity (91.1 MPH) and hard-hit rate (51.2%). He's still striking out at an undesirable 33.8% clip, though.

Brendan Rodgers Remains Out On Saturday

Houston Astros infielder Brendan Rodgers (hip) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. Earlier on Saturday, Astros manager Joe Espada said Rodgers is dealing with left hip soreness. It's worth noting that Rodgers was able to field grounders ahead of Saturday's contest. It doesn't sound like Rodgers will require a trip to the injured list, but we'll wait and see how he feels on Sunday. In the meantime, Jose Altuve will cover second base while Zach Dezenzo takes over in left field against left-hander Tyler Anderson on Saturday.
