White Sox Agree With Bryan Shaw On Minors Pact

The Chicago White Sox agreed to terms on a minor-league deal with an invitation to major-league spring training with free-agent right-hander Bryan Shaw on Saturday. Shaw returns to the White Sox after recording a 4.14 ERA (3.87 FIP), a 1.23 WHIP, a career-high four saves, 17 walks and 40 strikeouts in 45 2/3 relief innings for the Pale Hose in 2023. The 36-year-old will help bolster one of the weakest bullpens in the league again in 2024, although he won't be a lock to make the Opening Day roster out of camp. The 13-year major-league veteran has a career 3.93 ERA (4.04 FIP) and 1.33 WHIP with 19 saves and 677 strikeouts in 760 1/3 innings pitched with the White Sox, Cleveland Guardians, Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies and Seattle Mariners.

Bryan Shaw Earns Another Save

Chicago White Sox right-handed pitcher Bryan Shaw tossed a perfect ninth inning on Thursday to pick up his fourth save of the season in a 3-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Shaw struck out one. He now has a 4.43 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 40 strikeouts in 42 IP. The White Sox appear to be mixing and matching in the bullpen, but Shaw has picked up two saves in the last week. For managers in the deep leagues, he may be a nice weekend saves stream for the final few days of the season.

Bryan Shaw Released By White Sox

Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Bryan Shaw has been released by the organization on Sunday. The 35-year-old joined the team on a minor-league deal this spring. Despite a strong showing, Shaw has been released from his contract. The right-hander posted a 1.08 ERA 1.32 WHIP and a 4/5 K/BB ratio over 8 1/3 innings this spring. That being said, Shaw should be able to catch on somewhere else. He struggled last season, but the 12-year veteran has been a fairly consistent option throughout his career. Regardless of where he ends up, Shaw is unlikely to have fantasy value on any organization.

Guardians Re-Sign Bryan Shaw

The Cleveland Guardians re-signed relief pitcher Bryan Shaw on Thursday, according to sources. MLB Network's Jon Heyman is reporting that the deal is for one year and $3 million and includes an option for the 2023 season. Shaw will make $9 million if he hits all his incentives and his option is exercised. The 34-year-old right-hander bounced back in 2021 in his return to Cleveland after three straight rough seasons with the Colorado Rockies and Seattle Mariners. He appeared in a league-high 81 games and had a 3.49 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, two saves, 20 holds and 71 strikeouts in 77 1/3 innings pitched for the Tribe. Shaw will only be worth looking at in leagues that reward points for holds.

Bryan Shaw Records Save Sunday

Cleveland Indians relief pitcher Bryan Shaw threw a perfect ninth inning while striking out one to record his second save of the season in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Oakland Athletics. Do not read too much into this as Shaw was only brought into this save situation since both Emmanuel Clase and James Karinchak each threw in the previous two games of this series. For the season, Shaw has posted a solid 2.83 ERA with 52 strikeouts in 41 1/3 innings pitched, but is not fantasy relevant in most leagues.

Bryan Shaw Earns Save Thursday

Cleveland Indians relief pitcher Bryan Shaw earned his first save of the season in Thursday night's 4-2 win over the Seattle Mariners. Shaw was called upon in the ninth inning with two outs after Emmanuel Clase had walked three batters and promptly ended the inning with a strikeout. Fantasy players should not read too much into this as Clase had pitched on consecutive days prior to entering this one and was likely just gassed. Shaw should not be relied upon for saves in the future.

Bryan Shaw Makes Opening Day Roster

Cleveland Indians right-handed reliever Bryan Shaw, who signed a minor league deal with the team this offseason, was told earlier this week that he will make the Opening Day roster. He'll receive a one-year deal worth $1 million with a chance to earn $1.3 million in performance bonuses based on pitching appearances. Shaw was a dependable reliever for the Tribe from 2013-17 before he signed with Colorado. The 33-year-old will give the bullpen veteran experience alongside young relievers James Karinchak and Emmanuel Clase. Shaw appeared in 378 games over five seasons for Cleveland and was often a relief workhorse, but it remains to be seen how much the Tribe will use him this time around after he's struggled the last two seasons with the Rockies and Mariners.

Bryan Shaw, Heath Hembree Sign With Cleveland

The Cleveland Indians signed free-agent relief pitchers Bryan Shaw and Heath Hembree to a minor league deals on Wednesday. Hembree will make $1.25 million plus incentives if he's in the major leagues. Reliever DJ Johnson was also signed. Shaw will return to the Tribe and will receive an invite to spring training. All three relievers are right-handed. Shaw, 33, had a 3.11 ERA, 3.45 FIP and struck out 333 hitters in 358 2/3 innings in five seasons with the Indians and mostly served as a setup arm in the bullpen. He led the league in appearances three times from 2014-17. But Shaw has struggled the last two years with Colorado and Seattle. Hembree, 32, allowed 19 runs in 19 innings with Boston and Philadelphia last season. The three relievers will be battling for a spot in Cleveland's 'pen this spring.

Rockies Release Bryan Shaw, Jake McGee

The Colorado Rockies released relief pitchers Bryan Shaw and Jake McGee on Friday. Both relievers fell on hard times, as a lot of relievers do in Colorado, before being cut. Shaw had a 5.61 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, 112 strikeouts and 57 walks while allowing 21 home runs in 126 2/3 relief innings in his two seasons with the Rockies. McGee, a 33-year-old left-hander, had a 4.78 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, 178 strikeouts, 59 walks and 34 home runs allowed in 195 2/3 relief innings in his four seasons with the club. They'll hope to latch on with other teams, but neither of them is likely to have any fantasy appeal in 2020.

Bryan Shaw Blows Another Lead

Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Bryan Shaw had somehow won over some confidence from manager Bud Black, but after allowed a run for the third straight outing and blowing another lead, he certainly shouldn't get any more chances anytime soon. Shaw has absolutely fallen apart from the pitcher he used to be, and he is one of the many problems Colorado has in their bullpen once again. Striking out just six batters per nine innings, Shaw was destined to failure after a fortunate start to the season, and his fall has been drastic. Shaw's carrying an ERA north of seven since May 30, having allowed earned runs in five of his 11 chances. He might get some holds along the way, but Shaw is absolutely not worth an investment.
