Caden Dana News
Los Angeles Angels starting pitching prospect Caden Dana threw seven innings of one-run ball and struck out five en route to his second victory of the season on Thursday. Dana allowed just four hits and one free pass. This outing brings the 20-year-old to a dominant 1.69 ERA and 0.72 WHIP through 37 innings in his first taste of Double-A. He has tallied 32 total strikeouts. After posting a modest 4.22 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 53 innings at High-A last season, Dana looks to have found a second gear that has allowed him to succeed against stronger competition. The second-ranked prospect in the Angels system on MLB Pipeline is not projected to reach the majors until 2026, but seeing how well he is performing at Double-A, he could force his way to Triple-A by the end of the summer, which opens the door for a 2025 debut.
Los Angeles Angels pitching prospect Caden Dana continues to enjoy Double-A Rocket City. On Sunday, the 20-year-old tossed a career-high seven innings. Over those seven frames, he allowed two hits, no runs, one walk and struck out eight. Dana is currently the Angels top pitching prospect and this is his first go around in Double-A. So far, he has seemed unmatched with a 1.47 ERA to go with 19 strikeouts and just three walks over three starts (18 1/3 innings). Dana has an established fastball and slider, while he has been working on his changeup to add his arsenal. He also has shown good command with his ability to stay in the strike zone. If Dana keeps this going in Double-A, he could rise quicker than expected with the Angels showing no issues with promoting their prospects when they deem ready. For now, Dana is a name for dynasty league managers.
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Nelson Rada and pitcher Caden Dana are among the team's non-roster invites for major-league spring training this year. Rada, 18, was signed for $1.8 million in January of 2022 as an international free agent from Venezuela when he was just 16. The left-handed hitter slashed .276/.396/.346 with two home runs, 48 RBI, 55 stolen bases and 94 runs scored in 115 games at Single-A Inland Empire in 2023. He'll look to continue his development in the minors for the Halos in 2024. Dana, 20, is one of the team's top pitching prospects and went 3-5 with a 3.56 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 30 walks and 89 strikeouts with Inland Empire and High-A Tri-City last year over 14 starts (68 1/3 innings). The young right-hander was the team's 11th-round pick in 2022.
