Chase Dollander Headed for Injured List

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Chase Dollander (knee) is expected to go on the injured list and miss the remainder of the season, reports Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post. This is after Dollander reported knee soreness after Monday's start and underwent an MRI on Tuesday. The exact injury diagnosis isn't yet clear, but it's enough to bring his rookie season to a close. The 23-year-old struggled in his first taste of the majors, posting a 6.52 ERA and 1.55 WHIP with 82 strikeouts and 49 walks in 98 innings. Pitching in Coors Field will always be a struggle, but the former top prospect should get the chance to take a step forward in his sophomore year.

Chase Dollander Recalled and Starting on Monday

The Colorado Rockies announced on Monday that they have recalled right-handed pitching prospect Chase Dollander from Triple-A Albuquerque and have designated catcher Austin Nola for assignment in a corresponding move. Dollander will be making his 16th start of the yar for the Rockis in Monday's series opener at Busch Stadium against the hosting St. Louis Cardinals. The 23-year-old had a ruke awakening in the big leagues earlier this year, as he recorded a 6.68 ERA (5.96 FIP) and 1.56 WHIP with 52 strikeouts and 33 walks in 68 2/3 innings over 15 starts before the Rockies sent him to the minors. He wasn't any better in three starts on the farm after being sent down in July, posting an 8.74 ERA and 1.85 WHIP in three starts. The matchup against St. Louis isn't a terrible one for his return, but we wouldn't recommend rolling with the young hurler in his first start back.

Chase Dollander Expected to Start on Monday

According to Thomas Harding, Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Chase Dollander is expected to be recalled to start against the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday. Dollander was optioned to the minors after a few brutal starts in Colorado. He currently holds a 6.68 ERA across 15 starts with the Rockies this season. The Rockies season is obviously a loss at this point, so they might as well give their 23-year-old prospect a chance to pitch. He's not worth a look in fantasy leagues until he can put together a few decent outings in the MLB.

Rockies Option Chase Dollander to Triple-A Albuquerque

Colorado Rockies right-hander Chase Dollander was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday following a rocky stretch at the big-league level. Dollander has struggled mightily in his debut season, posting a 6.68 ERA and 1.56 WHIP, walking batters at an alarming 10.7% clip. Once viewed as a potential ace-in-the-making, Dollander has failed to find consistency. The Rockies hope a little more seasoning will help him refine his command and rebuild his confidence. In a corresponding move, right-hander Bradley Blalock was recalled from Triple-A and will take Dollander's place in the rotation. Blalock and his 12.94 ERA should be avoided in all formats. Fantasy managers in dynasty leagues should remain patient with Dollander, but redraft owners can safely move on for now.

Chase Dollander to Come Off Injured List and Start on Tuesday

Colorado Rockies right-handed pitching prospect Chase Dollander (forearm) said that he will come off the 15-day injured list and start on Tuesday against the Miami Marlins after recovering from right-forearm inflammation. Dollander, the team's top prospect per MLB Pipeline, threw live batting practice last week but didn't go on a minor-league rehab assignment. It means that the 23-year-old will likely be on a short leash in his return to Colorado's starting rotation, and despite the plus matchup against the Fish, Dollander will be a very risky option for fantasy managers in his return. The former ninth overall pick in 2023 out of Tennessee was shaky in his first eight big-league starts before his injury, too, going 2-5 with a 6.28 ERA (6.03 FIP) and 1.42 WHIP with 38 strikeouts and 18 walks in 38 2/3 innings pitched. Miami sits at 19th in the big leagues right now with a .697 team OPS.

Chase Dollander Throws Live Batting Practice

Colorado Rockies right-handed pitching prospect Chase Dollander (forearm) threw live batting practice on May 27. Interim manager Warren Schaeffer noted that the session "looked good." The top prospect in the Colorado system hit the 15-day injured list on May 22 due to right forearm tightness. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status. However, it is positive to see the right-hander already face live hitters. Through his first 38 2/3 innings in the majors, Dollander struggled as he posted a 6.28 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP. During this stint, Dollander struck out 38 batters but struggled to command his pitches as he allowed walks at a hefty 10.5% rate. However, through 52 career frames split between Double-A and Triple-A, he holds a strong 2.25 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP. When he returns from the injured list, he will likely have a spot in the starting rotation and will hold value in deeper leagues.

Chase Dollander Placed on 15-Day Injured List

Colorado Rockies pitcher Chase Dollander was placed on the 15-day IL with forearm tightness on Thursday, retroactive to May 19. The 23-year-old made his latest start for the team on Sunday, May 18, allowing just one earned run on three hits and two walks while striking out six over 4 2/3 IP, but no issues with his arm were reported at that time. Hopefully this is just a minor issue that will require a minimal IL stint, however, with the Rockies currently being the worst team in baseball, there's no reason to rush back the team's top prospect to risk further injury. Although the righty's 6.28 ERA and 1.42 WHIP don't show it, the youngster pitched better as of late, and his 4.66 xFIP suggests things weren't as bad as they appeared on paper. Assuming this is not a long-term issue, Dollander has a bright future in both real-life and fantasy baseball.

Chase Dollander Tallies Six Punchouts on Sunday

Colorado Rockies right-handed pitching prospect Chase Dollander struck out six batters in his start against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday afternoon. The young right-hander logged four 2/3 innings of one-run ball. He allowed three hits and two free passes. His lone blemish came in the opening frame on a solo shot by Arizona second baseman Ketel Marte. However, since allowing six runs to the Detroit Tigers on May 7, the former first-round pick has begun to turn the corner. In his last two starts, Dollander has tossed 10 2/3 innings with a 2.53 ERA and a strong 0.84 WHIP. Over this stretch, he has tallied 13 punchouts and allowed just five walks. Fantasy managers in deeper 15+ team formats should continue to stash Dollander on their bench. Even though he has progressed well, he should only be started in deeper NL-only formats in his next outing, against the New York Yankees at Coors Field.

Chase Dollander Struggles Against Detroit

Colorado Rockies right-handed pitching prospect Chase Dollander allowed five hits and six runs across three innings of work on Wednesday evening against the Detroit Tigers. Dollander did not strike out a batter but served up three walks. Dollander was able to get through the first two innings without allowing a run, but ran into trouble in the third. Javier Baez would hit a two-run single, and Gleyber Torres would hit a sacrifice fly. Later in the fourth, Baez would hit another two-run single. In his previous start, the right-hander showed significant progress as he logged five 2/3 innings of one-run ball en route to defeating the Atlanta Braves. Through his first 28 innings of work at the MLB level, the former ninth overall pick has posted a 7.71 ERA with a 1.64 WHIP. Given his inconsistent performances, he should only be started in deeper NL-only formats.

Chase Dollander Good To Go For Tuesday's Start

Colorado Rockies rookie right-hander Chase Dollander (finger) will start Tuesday night at Coors Field against the visiting Detroit Tigers. Dollander dealt with a split fingernail on his pitching hand in his last start on Wednesday against the Atlanta Braves, when he allowed just one earned run on two hits while walking three and striking out four in 5 2/3 innings for the second win of his career. The 23-year-old prospect has plenty of long-term upside, but he's been shaky so far in his first five MLB starts, posting a 6.48 ERA and 1.52 WHIP with 25 strikeouts and 10 walks in 25 innings pitched. Dollander will be a risky fantasy option on Tuesday night at hitter-friendly Coors Field coming off his finger issue while facing the first-place Tigers, an offense that currently ranks sixth in OPS among all big-league teams.
