Jaden Hill Optioned To Triple-A

The Colorado Rockies have optioned right-handed pitching prospect Jaden Hill to Triple-A Albuquerque. Hill was competing for a spot on the Opening Day roster, but given his struggles during camp, the Rockies will have him continue his development in the minor leagues. In camp, Hill logged eight 1/3 innings to the tune of a 6.48 ERA with a 1.20 WHIP. The LSU product made his MLB debut last summer and held a high 5.06 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP across 10 2/3 innings. During this limited stint, he generated a strong 3.01 xERA with a .205 xBA, which suggests he should face some significant positive regression when he returns to the majors. Last summer, he held a 4.57 ERA with a 1.43 WHIP across 45 1/3 innings split between Double and Triple-A. Hill should contend to return to the Colorado bullpen later in the summer.

Rockies Expecting To Call Up Jaden Hill Soon

Colorado Rockies right-handed pitching prospect Jaden Hill (hamstring), the team's No. 21 prospect per MLB Pipeline, suffered a right-hamstring strain on his final pitch of a three-strikeout outing for Triple-A Albuquerque on Aug. 17 and was reportedly fine when he threw a bullpen session on Aug. 29. The Rockies are expected to recall Hill at some point soon with rosters now expanded, but they want to see him pitch again in a Triple-A game before making that decision. Colorado will need to put him on the 40-man roster after the season to avoid potentially losing him in the Rule 5 draft, which is why they want to see him pitch in the majors before the year is over. The 24-year-old has posted a 4.67 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with 68 strikeouts and 17 walks in 44 1/3 relief innings with seven saves for Albuquerque and Double-A Hartford in 2024.

Jaden Hill Promoted To Triple-A

Colorado Rockies relief pitching prospect Jaden Hill is being promoted to Triple-A Albuquerque, according to MiLB Central. Hill was drafted out of LSU in the 2021 MLB Draft. He made his professional debut in 2022 and is now just one stop away from the big leagues. Through 38 innings of relief at Double-A Hartford, the right-hander held a solid 3.52 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and an 11:56 BB:K ratio. He tallied six saves. This was his first full season operating out of the bullpen as he operated as a starter through all of 2022 and 2023. This was great for his progression as he held a rough 9.48 ERA and 1.51 WHIP at High-A last summer. Hill should continue to see high-leverage opportunities at Triple-A and could become the eventual closer of the future in Colorado.

Jaden Hill Makes Single-A Debut

Colorado Rockies pitching prospect Jaden Hill didn't make his professional debut until last month due to injury, a full year after the club made him a second-round pick. He made seven relatively short outings in the Complex League before being promoted to Single-A this past week. Hill is a hard thrower, touching 99 mph with his fastball and maintaining his high velocity throughout his entire start. He also throws a changeup that is well above-average, baffling hitters with its late fade. Both his changeup and plus slider work quite nicely off his heater. In Hill's Single-A debut, he was held to just three innings but still found time to impress. The right-hander allowed three hits and one walk while striking out a whopping seven batters in the process.
