Hunter Goodman Homers In Loss To Phillies

Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman went 2-for-3 with a double and a homer in a 5-1 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday. Goodman was one of the lone bright spots for the Rockies in the loss as they fell to 1-4 on the season. The 25-year-old catcher is off to a fast start this season, hitting .368 with three doubles, two homers, three runs, and three RBI through 19 at-bats. After hitting 13 homers in just 211 at-bats in 2024, Goodman is emerging as an interesting fantasy catcher in all leagues.

Hunter Goodman Starting Behind The Plate

Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman will get the starting nod in their season opener on Friday afternoon. Goodman will play catcher and bat sixth against Tampa Bay right-hander Ryan Pepiot. Goodman was competing for the starting catcher job during camp and appears to have won the job for the time being. During spring training, the 25-year-old posted an impressive .444/.500/.822 slash line with three round-trippers and six doubles. Last season, Goodman appeared in 70 MLB games and posted a .190/.228/.417 slash line with nine doubles and 13 home runs. However, he spent most of his time in the outfield and started just 22 games behind the dish. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his deployment in the starting nine as he could be quite valuable in two-catcher leagues if he also sees time in the outfield. He is worth a look as a cheap option for power in DFS, facing Pepiot, who struggles to put the ball on the ground.

Hunter Goodman's Arrow Pointing Up, Will Focus On Catching In 2025

Colorado Rockies catcher/utility player Hunter Goodman had reportedly pulled ahead of Drew Romo for the backup catcher role with his performance this spring, and that became more apparent on Wednesday when Romo was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque. Goodman is 7-for-19 (.368) this spring, and, although he doesn't have a home run yet, he has a 4:3 BB:K. That's a good sign, seeing as he posted an 8:64 BB:K during his 70 games with the big league club last season. The former fourth-round draft pick has big-time power, with 80 home runs in 1114 minor league at-bats, even blasting 13 last season for the Rockies on the back of a 12.8 percent barrel rate. The right-handed slugger will backup 35-year-old Jacob Stallings, but the veteran has logged no more than 89 games in the last two campaigns, so Goodman should have a decent role that would only grow if Stallings were to get hurt. With the power he can provide, Goodman could be worthy of a roster spot in two-catcher leagues and all leagues if he were thrust into a full-time role. The 25-year-old is also eligible at both C and OF on Yahoo, although he'll focus on catching in 2025 despite playing five different positions in 2024.

Hunter Goodman Will Have Limited Role To Start The Season

According to Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post, Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman is not expected to have an everyday role in the starting lineup to open the season. Saunders noted that the 25-year-old backstop will not start behind the plate more than twice a week. After appearing in just 23 games during his rookie season in 2023, Goodman logged 70 starts last summer and posted a .190/.228/.417 line. He launched 13 home runs with nine doubles. He posted a stellar 12.8 percent barrel rate. However, he struck out at a hefty 28.6 percent rate and drew walks at a low 3.6 percent rate. Fantasy managers should monitor his development during spring training. He has also logged starts at first base and could see a handful of opportunities there as well. When not catching, fantasy managers should expect Drew Romo or Jacob Stalling to be behind the dish.

Hunter Goodman Gets A Breather

Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Goodman will get a night off after recording only one hit over the weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Rockies are hopeful that Goodman can be a key piece to this offense long term. However, the 24-year-old has struggled to the tune of a .190 batting average with 13 home runs and 36 RBI in 68 games. Jacob Stallings will do the catching and bat seventh versus right-hander Michael McGreevy. Stallings is having a surprisingly solid season at the plate with a .261 batting average and nine home runs with 36 RBI across 79 contests.

Hunter Goodman Homers Twice, Drives In Seven

Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and collected seven RBI in Friday's 9-5 win over the Cubs. The first home run was a two-run shot in the second inning that gave the Rockies a 2-1 lead, while the second was a go-ahead grand slam that broke a 5-5 tie in the eighth, putting the Rockies up 9-5. The home runs gave the 24-year-old 11 of them on the season, but he has yet to string together a productive stretch of games at the plate, hitting just .191 with an OBP of .231 and a K% of 28.2% at the major league level this year. The power is legit, however, as the slugger had a span of eight games at Triple-A back in April in which he belted seven home runs. We'll see if this performance gets him going.

Rockies Demote Hunter Goodman

The Colorado Rockies have demoted catcher/first baseman/outfielder Hunter Goodman to Triple-A Albuquerque. Goodman has seen two stints with the big-league club this season, with his most recent lasting much of the season. In his time with the Rockies, the slugger hit .177 with eight home runs and 24 RBI over 54 games. The power translated from the farm, but not much as else. Goodman wasn't seeing much opportunity with the Rockies and will now see every day at-bats with Albuquerque, where he hit .298 with seven homers and 22 RBI in 20 games earlier this season. Goodman's power plays well at Coors Field, but he is still without a firm position and will need to get better at making contact at the plate. For now, dynasty managers can move on from Goodman with catcher prospect Drew Romo replacing him on the roster and having more upside in the future.

Hunter Goodman Starting On Thursday

Colorado Rockies outfielder Hunter Goodman is in the starting lineup and will hit eighth while manning right field against the San Diego Padres and right-hander Randy Vasquez. The 24-year-old was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday and went 0-for-2 with a strikeout in a pair of pinch-hitting plate appearances but will get his first start in the big leagues this season on Thursday. Goodman debuted with the Rockies last season but struggled to a .200 average with just one homer and one stolen base across 77 plate appearances. However, he has demolished Triple-A pitching to the tune of a .298 average with seven homers, 22 RBI, and a 1.042 OPS across 20 games so far this season. He is worth a deep-league add given the light-tower power he has displayed throughout his minor-league tenure.

Rockies Recall Hunter Goodman, Option Michael Toglia

The Colorado Rockies announced on Wednesday that they recalled utility man Hunter Goodman from Triple-A Albuquerque and optioned infielder/outfielder Michael Toglia to Albuquerque in a corresponding move. Goodman, the club's No. 12 prospect per MLB Pipeline, gets called up to the majors after hitting .298 with seven home runs and 10 doubles in the first 20 games at Triple-A this year. The 24-year-old former fourth-round pick in 2021 out of Memphis made his big-league debut in 2023 and went 14-for-70 (.200) with a homer, 17 RBI, five walks and 24 strikeouts in his first 23 games played in the Show. For now, he's merely a waiver-wire option for fantasy managers in deep leagues for his power upside at Coors Field. He figures to see some playing time in right field and first base, but he's not start in Wednesday against the visiting San Diego Padres.

Hunter Goodman Surging At Triple-A

Colorado Rockies prospect Hunter Goodman went 1-for-5 for Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday, extending his current hit streak to five games. After going 10-for-42 (.238) with no home runs over his first 11 games, Goodman has now gone 11-for-36 (.306) with six home runs over his last eight games. The 23-year-old has played catcher, first base, right field, and DH for the Isotopes this season. In 2023, he played first base, right field, and DH during his 23-game audition with the big league club, so it remains to be seen where he'll fit in on the diamond. The right-handed hitter belted 36 home runs in 2022 over 134 games and 34 home runs over 106 games in 2023, so there's plenty of pop in that bat, although he hit just one during his short time in Colorado last season. Assuming he gets another shot with the Rockies in 2024, he could be a sneaky source of power for homer-needy fantasy teams.
