Hunter Goodman Returns as DH on Thursday Against Giants

Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman (wrist) is serving as the designated hitter and is batting cleanup for the Rockies in Thursday's series finale against the division-rival San Francisco Giants and left-hander Carson Whisenhunt at Oracle Park, according to MLB.com. Goodman will return to the starting lineup after missing the last two games with a wrist injury that he suffered on Monday. Fantasy managers will want to get the power-hitting backstop back into their starting lineups in all traditional formats. The 26-year-old former fourth-round pick in 2021 out of the University of Memphis is proving that last year's breakout was no fluke, as he enters Thursday's action with a .250/.318/.543 slash line, .861 OPS, 27 home runs, 51 RBI, 58 runs scored, and five stolen bases across 324 at-bats in his fourth year in the big leagues. He has hit .280 (28-for-100) with seven of his 27 dingers against lefties this year and has also hit .275 with 18 of his long balls on the road in 2026. Goodman comes into Thursday's action tied for fourth in the big leagues with Junior Caminero in home runs.

Hunter Goodman Scratched Due to Wrist Injury

Colorado Rockies All-Star catcher Hunter Goodman (wrist) was scratched from the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers after he jammed his wrist on Monday night on a play at the plate, according to Thomas Harding of MLB.com. Goodman said he doesn't have a lot of information on the injury at this point. He should be considered day-to-day until we know more about his injury. Fantasy managers will want to check back on Wednesday to see if he's ready to return to the lineup in L.A. Braxton Fulford is doing the catching for right-hander Michael Lorenzen on Tuesday and will bat eighth against Dodgers left-hander Justin Wrobleski. The 26-year-old Goodman was a first-time All-Star in his first full season in Colorado in 2025, hitting 31 homers while driving in 91. He has backed that up and then some in 2026 in his fourth major-league season, as he's currently hitting .251/.318/.545 with an .863 OPS, 27 homers, 51 RBI, 58 runs scored, and five stolen bases in 85 games played. When active, Goodman is an elite fantasy catcher and is a must-start.

Hunter Goodman Up to 25 Long Balls After Three-Homer Game

Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman carried the offense in the team's 8-5 win on the road over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday night at Target Field, going 3-for-5 at the plate with three home runs, five RBI, and a strikeout to boost his season batting average to .246 and his OPS to .855. With the monster three-homer performance, Goodman is now up to 25 home runs on the season, which puts him in a tie for second in all of baseball with Yordan Alvarez and Byron Buxton, four homers behind Kyle Schwarber. The 26-year-old former fourth-round pick in the 2021 MLB draft out of the University of Memphis was a first-time All-Star in 2025, when he hit .278/.323/.520 with an .843 OPS, 31 home runs, 91 RBI, and 73 runs scored in 144 games in his first full year in the majors. Goodman is running it back this year and is on pace to reach the rarified air of 40 home runs if he can stay healthy in the second half. He entered Saturday's contest in Minnesota with a .240/.307/.510 slash line, .818 OPS, 22 homers, 42 RBI, 49 runs, and a career-high five stolen bases. Goodman is obviously an elite source of raw power at the weakest position in fantasy, and he isn't slowing down whatsoever.

Hunter Goodman Reaches 20 Homers in Impressive Fashion

Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman reached the 20-homer mark on Sunday in the team's 23-9 drubbing of the Athletics in Las Vegas, going an impressive 5-for-6 at the plate with two home runs, a double, four RBI, and three runs scored to raise his season average to .250 and his OPS to .857. The Rockies did not have a shortage of offense in this one, as the 26-year-old backstop's homers accounted for two of the team's six long balls on the day. Although Goodman had gone hitless in his last 13 at-bats with nine strikeouts in his last three games, he once again proved why he's one of the best power-hitting catchers in baseball. Over 66 games this year, Goodman has delivered 20 home runs, 37 RBI, 44 runs scored, five stolen bases, and an .857 OPS in his fourth year in the majors after slashing .278/.323/.520 with an .843 OPS, 31 homers, and 91 RBI in 144 games in a breakout 2025 campaign. He's a must-start at the position with his elite power from the right side of the plate.

Hunter Goodman Continues to Mash, Hits Two More Long Balls

Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman is on a homer binge of late, and that continued in the team's 13-2 blowout win over the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night. Goodman went 3-for-4 at the plate with two home runs, three RBI, four runs scored, and a walk to raise his season average to .269 and his OPS to .932 in 28 games played. The 26-year-old backstop brings high-end power to the weak catching position, and he's now hit four home runs in the last five games while going 8-for-21 during that span. He was a first-time All-Star in 2025, when he hit .278/.323/.520 with 31 home runs and 91 RBI in 144 games in his breakout season. Goodman is once again on pace for another strong season in the homer department, but he won't be able to sustain a high average if he continues to strike out over 35% of the time on offense. On the season, Goodman is hitting .269 (28-for-104) with nine round-trippers, 14 RBI, 23 runs, and a stolen base.

Hunter Goodman Homers Twice in Loss to Astros

Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman had a big day at the plate on Tuesday in the team's 7-6 loss to the Houston Astros at Daikin Park. Goodman went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs, but he also struck out three times. It was Goodman's sixth multi-homer game of his career and his first since July 1 of the 2025 season. It was nice to see the 26-year-old show off his power after an injury scare last week in San Diego when he was hit by a pitch in the hand. Goodman is now hitting .254 (15-for-59) on the year with four home runs, seven RBI, 12 runs scored, a stolen base, five walks, and a league-leading 26 home runs in 17 games played. He also has six hits in his last nine games and is batting .296 with three homers and five RBI during that span. Despite the strikeouts, Goodman proved last year that he has elite power at the catching position by hitting 31 long balls in 144 games for the Rockies in his first full season in the big leagues.

Hunter Goodman Leaves Thursday Night's Game With Finger Injury

Thomas Harding of MLB.com reported Thursday night that Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman left Thursday's game with a right middle finger laceration after being hit by a pitch in the sixth inning. The Rockies' catcher's status will likely be updated ahead of Friday's second contest of the four-game series in San Diego. Before leaving the contest, Goodman was hitless in two plate appearances. Brett Sullivan entered for Goodman after the injury and finished the contest behind the dish. Fantasy managers will want to keep tabs on Goodman's status on Friday to see what his availability may be for the rest of the weekend or if a trip to the injury list is a possibility. Fantasy managers in daily lineups will want to try to prepare for a backup plan at catcher for the weekend. Goodman has had a slow start to the 2026 season, slashing .239/.327/.391 with two home runs, four RBI, five runs, and one stolen base.

Hunter Goodman Carries Plenty of Momentum Into 2026 Season

Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman broke out in 2025, slashing .278/.323/.520 with a whopping 31 home runs, 91 RBI, and 118 wRC+. His discipline numbers weren't great; he had a 5.7% walk rate and 26.3% strikeout rate. Still, the power arguably outweighs the whiffs, especially from a fantasy baseball perspective. He also took major strides behind the plate, posting 4.2 defensive fWAR, the first positive mark of his career. Furthermore, Goodman amassed 2 FRV. The 26-year-old is locked into the Rockies' starting catcher role for 2026. Between swinging the bat well, playing almost every day, and getting half of his games at Coors Field, Goodman is an intriguing fantasy backstop. He ranks #6 among catchers in RotoBaller's latest fantasy baseball rankings for 2026.

Hunter Goodman Resting on Wednesday

Colorado Rockies catcher/designated hitter Hunter Goodman is not in the lineup for Wednesday's meeting with the St. Louis Cardinals. Braxton Fulford will catch and hit eighth versus right-hander Michael McGreevy, while Yanquiel Fernandez will handle DH duties and bat seventh. Goodman will take a seat after blasting a two-run, 442-foot homer to help the Rockies to a 3-0 win over the Cardinals on Tuesday. The 25-year-old has gone deep 23 times and slashed .275/.322/.519 with 66 RBI and 56 runs in 426 plate appearances during a breakout campaign. Goodman ranks third among catchers in both homers and RBI.

Hunter Goodman Resting Thursday

Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman is getting a breather for the team's series finale against the visiting Houston Astros. It appears to be a regular day of rest for the right-handed slugger, with fellow backstop Austin Nola getting the start behind home plate and batting eighth. Goodman missed a few days with a hamstring issue recently, but looked no worse for wear when he launched two homers on Tuesday. He's produced well in his third campaign with Colorado and is fresh off a red-hot June in which he slashed .342/.373/.734 with six doubles, two triples, 15 runs scored, and 17 RBI. The 25-year-old has already set a career-high with 16 long balls.
