Rockies Place Hunter Goodman on Injured List With Shoulder Strain

The Colorado Rockies announced on Tuesday that they placed All-Star catcher Hunter Goodman (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 15) with a strained left shoulder and recalled catcher Braxton Fulford from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move. Fulford will do the catching for right-hander Ryan Feltner on Tuesday and will bat eighth against Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Eric Lauer. Goodman will go on the shelf after sitting out with his shoulder injury since Aug. 12. Hopefully, he will require only a minimal stay on the IL, but the Rockies also do not have any real reason to rush him back down the stretch of the 2026 campaign. With Goodman on the IL, Fulford and Brett Sullivan will split playing time behind the dish in Denver, with Sullivan likely seeing primary duties. Losing the 26-year-old Goodman for any amount of time is a big blow for fantasy managers, as he leads all MLB catchers with a career-high 34 home runs while also adding 69 RBI, 69 runs scored, and five steals in 414 at-bats. Keep him stashed in all fantasy leagues.

Hunter Goodman Scratched Again With Shoulder Inflammation

The Colorado Rockies have scratched All-Star catcher Hunter Goodman (shoulder) from the starting lineup for Monday's series opener in Denver against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers due to inflammation in his left shoulder, according to Rockies reporter Kelsey Wingert-Linch. Goodman will miss a fourth straight game with a shoulder injury after also being scratched from the starting nine on Saturday. Brett Sullivan is now doing the catching for right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano and will bat eighth against Dodgers left-hander Blake Snell. If Goodman suffered a setback with his shoulder, there is a good chance he could be headed for an injured-list stint. Fantasy managers will want to check back on Tuesday to see if his condition has improved. Losing the 26-year-old right-handed slugger for an extended stretch would be a big blow for fantasy managers, as Goodman leads all MLB catchers with a career-high 34 home runs while driving in 69 runs, scoring 69 runs, and stealing five bases in his 414 at-bats in 2026.

Hunter Goodman Checks Back into Rockies' Lineup

Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman (shoulder) is back behind the plate to catch right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano and will hit third in Monday's series opener at Coors Field against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers and left-hander Blake Snell, per MLB.com. Goodman is back in action to begin the new week after missing the last three games with inflammation in his left shoulder. Fantasy managers will want to get the 26-year-old back into their starting lineups in all traditional formats for his power stroke, especially at Coors Field. The two-time All-Star is having another excellent year at the plate in Colorado, hitting .251/.320/.541 with a career-best .861 OPS, a career-high 34 home runs, 69 RBI, 69 runs scored, and a career-high five steals in 111 games across 460 plate appearances. Goodman has hit only .143 with a .393 OPS in his career against Snell, but only in a small sample size of seven at-bats. He's hit .250 (9-for-36) with three homers and nine RBI in his 10 games so far in the month of August.

Hunter Goodman Out Against Giants

Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman (shoulder) will not start in Sunday's series finale against the division-rival San Francisco Giants after being scratched from Saturday's lineup with inflammation in his left shoulder, per MLB.com. Brett Sullivan is doing the catching for right-hander Gabriel Hughes and will bat eighth against Giants right-hander Blade Tidwell. Goodman, who has become one of the best slugging backstops in all of baseball in the last two years, should be considered day-to-day for now. His next chance to play will be in Monday's series opener at Coors Field against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers. The two-time All-Star leads all catchers in the majors this year with a career-high 34 home runs, just one season after clubbing 31 long balls and driving in 91 runs in 144 games played in his first full season in the majors. Goodman has added 69 RBI, 69 runs scored, and a career-best five steals in 111 games so far in 2026. Check back on Monday to see if he's back in action against the Dodgers. He's gone 9-for-36 (.250) with three homers, a triple, nine RBI, and five runs scored in 10 games so far in August.

Hunter Goodman Scratched With Shoulder Inflammation

The Colorado Rockies announced that catcher Hunter Goodman (shoulder) has been scratched from Saturday's starting lineup against the division-rival San Francisco Giants with inflammation in his left shoulder. Brett Sullivan will now catch right-hander Michael Lorenzen and will bat eighth against Giants right-hander Logan Webb. It's unclear right now what the severity of Goodman's shoulder injury is, so we'll consider him day-to-day. Fantasy managers will want to check back on Sunday for an update on the 26-year-old's status and to see if he's back in the lineup. The two-time All-Star has had a second straight outstanding season for the Rockies in 2026, as he enters Saturday with a .251/.320/.541 slash line with a career-best .861 OPS, 34 home runs, 69 RBI, 69 runs scored, and five stolen bases in 111 games across 460 plate appearances. Goodman leads all big-league catchers in home runs and is third in RBI, behind only Dillon Dingler and Liam Hicks. He's a must-start in all fantasy baseball leagues when he's active. Hopefully, it's just a minor shoulder injury for Goodman.

Rockies Setting High Asking Price on Hunter Goodman

The Colorado Rockies are setting a high asking price for catcher Hunter Goodman, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Rosenthal reports that Colorado is asking for "multi-player packages led by teams' No. 1 prospects" in exchange for Goodman. Goodman is under team control through 2029, so the Rockies are under no immediate pressure to move him. The 26-year-old has been arguably the best offensive catcher in baseball so far this season, hitting .254/.326/.545 with 31 home runs, 60 RBI, 64 runs scored, and five stolen bases across 417 plate appearances. His elevated 33.3% strikeout rate is a concern, but he's posted an elite 16.9% barrel rate. From a fantasy perspective, Goodman's batting average may suffer if he is traded and no longer gets a chance to play his home games at Coors Field. Still, the righty slugger has actually been a better hitter away from Colorado so far this season, hitting .273 with 18 home runs on the road compared to just .233 with 13 home runs at home. Regardless of where he ends up post-deadline, Goodman profiles as a top-tier fantasy catcher.

Rockies Not in a Rush to Trade Hunter Goodman

The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal writes that Colorado Rockies star catcher Hunter Goodman is less likely to be moved at this year's trade deadline for a variety of reasons. Goodman, who has three more years of club control left, is likely viewed as more of a building block in Denver than a trade piece. He ranks third in the majors with 30 home runs, including 18 on the road. A long-term contract extension with the 26-year-old backstop is possible, but if it doesn't happen, Colorado must decide if they contend with Goodman by 2029, his final year of club control. The Rockies are in no rush to make a decision, as Goodman, who ranks 12th in the majors with an .887 OPS, will remain attractive as a trade piece in the offseason. Rosenthal adds that the Rockies likely would need to be overwhelmed by an offer for Goodman to trade him this summer when they are still unclear about what their future path looks like. If they were to deal him, Colorado would most likely want multiple high-end prospects who could help them reach the 90-win mark faster than Goodman alone. The New York Yankees might be the team most willing to meet the Rockies' high demands for Goodman this summer.

Hunter Goodman Crushes Three Homers, Up to 30 on the Season

Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman has proved in 2026 that he's an elite power hitter, regardless of position. In the team's 9-6 loss at Coors Field on Sunday to the Cincinnati Reds, Goodman went 3-for-4 at the plate with three home runs, five RBI, and a strikeout to boost his season average to .257 and his OPS to .887. He became the first player in Rockies history to have two three-homer games in the same season. Perhaps even more impressive was that two of his three long balls came against Reds right-handed starter Hunter Greene. Goodman now trails only Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Kyle Schwarber, who has 33, for the National League home run lead in 2026. Additionally, he's slashing .257/.326/.561 in his second full season in the big leagues. He hit 31 homers and drove in 91 in 144 games played in 2025 as a first-time All-Star. With club control and an elite power bat, contending teams like the New York Yankees could come calling for Goodman with the August trade deadline quickly approaching.

Yankees Have Called on Hunter Goodman

The New York Yankees need a catcher at the trade deadline, as Austin Wells, J.C. Escarra, and Ali Sanchez rank last in baseball in OPS and wRC+. ESPN's Jorge Castillo writes that there are two obvious upgrades in Minnesota Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers and Colorado Rockies backstop Hunter Goodman. The Twins are just three games out of first place in the American League Central, so they understandably haven't become sellers this summer. Castillo reports that the Yankees have called on Goodman, per a source, although not recently. Goodman, who is hitting .254 with 27 home runs and an .863 OPS in 90 games, could prove costly for the Bombers if they decide to go that route. The 26-year-old catcher has three years of team control remaining beyond 2026 and is going to require a substantial haul as one of the best power hitters at his position. The Yankees prefer to acquire players at the deadline who aren't just short-term additions. Perhaps most intriguing about Goodman is that he's hit 18 of his 27 homers with a .964 OPS away from hitter-friendly Coors Field. He's already one of the most valuable catchers in fantasy, but a move to the Bronx would make Goodman even more attractive in a stronger lineup.

Hunter Goodman Returns as DH on Thursday Against Giants

Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman (wrist) is serving as the designated hitter and is batting cleanup for the Rockies in Thursday's series finale against the division-rival San Francisco Giants and left-hander Carson Whisenhunt at Oracle Park, according to MLB.com. Goodman will return to the starting lineup after missing the last two games with a wrist injury that he suffered on Monday. Fantasy managers will want to get the power-hitting backstop back into their starting lineups in all traditional formats. The 26-year-old former fourth-round pick in 2021 out of the University of Memphis is proving that last year's breakout was no fluke, as he enters Thursday's action with a .250/.318/.543 slash line, .861 OPS, 27 home runs, 51 RBI, 58 runs scored, and five stolen bases across 324 at-bats in his fourth year in the big leagues. He has hit .280 (28-for-100) with seven of his 27 dingers against lefties this year and has also hit .275 with 18 of his long balls on the road in 2026. Goodman comes into Thursday's action tied for fourth in the big leagues with Junior Caminero in home runs.
