TJ Rumfield Still a Rookie to Target on the Waiver Wire

Colorado Rockies rookie first baseman TJ Rumfield just continues to hit, and yet he is still rostered in under half of Yahoo leagues. Rumfield has become the Rockies' everyday starter at first base in 2026 in his first year in the big leagues. He has not looked like a rookie, slashing .293/.376/.467 with an .843 OPS, 13 home runs, 53 RBI, and 46 runs scored in 106 games across 428 plate appearances. Rumfield has been pretty solid away from hitter-friendly Coors Field, too, batting .286 (54-for-189) on the road with five of his 13 home runs in 54 games played. The 26-year-old left-handed slugger has also held his own against southpaws, batting .252 (29-for-115) against them with two of his 13 home runs on the season. After hitting over .300 in both May and June, Rumfield has continued to hit in July, going 23-for-79 (.291) with a .764 OPS, a homer, four doubles, eight RBI, and nine runs scored in 23 games and 91 plate appearances. At 6-foot-5, 225 pounds, Rumfield doesn't pack quite as much punch as you'd think, but his hit tool is extremely strong. If you need an average boost, Rumfield is widely available on the waiver wire.

TJ Rumfield a High-Floor Batting-Average Asset to Target on the Waiver Wire

Colorado Rockies first baseman TJ Rumfield has been one of the breakout success stories of the 2026 season, hitting .297/.381/.476 with 13 home runs, 52 RBI, and 45 runs scored across 409 plate appearances. The 26-year-old's underlying batted-ball metrics are underwhelming, as he's logged just a 5.3% barrel rate and a 28.2% hard-hit rate. However, Rumfield has struck out in just 14.2% of his plate appearances on the year. Between his propensity to put the ball in play and his hitter-friendly home environment in Colorado, Rumfield profiles as one of the safer sources of batting average and run production available to fantasy managers on the waiver wire.

TJ Rumfield a Top Source of Batting Average on the Waiver Wire

Across 384 plate appearances this season, Colorado Rockies first baseman TJ Rumfield is hitting .296/.380/.475 with 12 home runs, 47 RBI, and 42 runs scored. The 26-year-old's breakout success has come as a bit of a surprise, as he spent most of 2024 and all of 2025 in Triple-A as a member of the New York Yankees organization. Rumfield's underlying batted-ball metrics don't suggest tremendous upside, as he's logged just a 5.3% barrel rate and a 28.2% hard-hit rate. However, the lefty swinger has an elite plate approach, as he's walked in 10.4% of his plate appearances while posting an excellent 13.8% strikeout rate. With his ability to put the bat on the ball and his hitter-friendly home environment at Coors Field, Rumfield profiles as a high-end source of batting average for fantasy managers. Particularly in deeper leagues, Rumfield is a worthwhile waiver wire target for managers in need of a corner infield upgrade.

TJ Rumfield is a High-Floor First Baseman to Target on the Waiver Wire

Colorado Rockies first baseman TJ Rumfield has been a revelation so far this season, hitting .297/.376/.480 with 12 home runs, 47 RBI, and 42 runs scored across 372 plate appearances. The 26-year-old had been blocked from making his MLB debut as a member of the New York Yankees organization before 2026, but he's taken full advantage of his opportunity in Colorado and emerged as the Rockies' everyday first baseman. With just a 5.4% barrel rate and a 28.6% hard-hit rate, Rumfield's underlying power metrics are uninspiring. However, the lefty-swinger's plate approach is strong, as he owns a 9.7% walk rate with just a 14.2% strikeout rate. Rumfield's hitter-friendly home environment in Colorado also helps maximize his production at the plate. While Rumfield may not have incredible upside, he profiles as a steady corner infield contributor for fantasy managers to target on the waiver wire.

TJ Rumfield Deserves to be Rostered in More Fantasy Leagues

Colorado Rockies first baseman TJ Rumfield is inexperienced in his first year in the big leagues, but his numbers tell a different story. Through his first 86 games played and 350 plate appearances in the majors, Rumfield is slashing a robust .293/.374/.485 with an .860 OPS, 12 home runs, 19 doubles, 46 RBI, and 40 runs scored for the Rockies. Yet somehow, he's only rostered in half of Yahoo leagues. The 26-year-old left-handed-hitting first baseman, who was a 12th-round pick by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2021 out of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, was even better in 26 games in June, going 30-for-95 (.316) with five homers, nine doubles, a triple, 17 RBI, and 14 runs scored. Since June 16, he's hit .367 (22-for-60) with three homers and 12 RBI. Even if regression is expected to kick in -- he has an xBA of .248 and an xwOBA of .322 (wOBA of .375) -- Rumfield shouldn't be ignored any longer in mixed fantasy leagues. He has just one of his 12 homers against lefties, but he's hitting .273 (24-for-88) against them, and he's hit better away from hitter-friendly Coors Field with a .304 average (45-for-148) with five of his 12 homers. Fantasy managers searching for power should pick Rumfield up.

TJ Rumfield Too Hot to Leave on the Waiver Wire?

Colorado Rockies rookie first baseman TJ Rumfield has become one of the hottest hitters available. The 26-year-old has recorded two hits in each of his past four games and is batting .379/.455/.741 with four home runs, 13 RBI, and eight runs over his last 15 contests. That surge has lifted his season line to .291/.370/.491 with 12 homers and 44 RBI across 285 at-bats. Rumfield's production is worth chasing, even with some regression risk. His .250 expected batting average and .393 expected slugging percentage trail his actual marks, and he has not stolen a base. Still, Colorado continues to use him as its regular first baseman, and the recent production is difficult to ignore. Rostered in 41% of Yahoo leagues and listed by RotoBaller as a 12-team add, Rumfield is a strong pickup for fantasy managers seeking batting average, power, and RBI help.

TJ Rumfield Emerging as a Must-Add First Baseman in Deeper Leagues

Colorado Rockies first baseman TJ Rumfield has been a revelation so far in 2026, hitting .279/.357/.480 with 12 home runs, 42 RBI, and 35 runs scored across 305 plate appearances. The 26-year-old was stuck in the New York Yankees' farm system from 2022 through 2025 and never got a chance to make his MLB debut with New York despite posting an .825 OPS across 587 plate appearances at Triple-A last season. However, Rumfield was acquired by Colorado over the offseason and has emerged as the Rockies' everyday first baseman. With a 6.2% barrel rate and a 31.9% hard-hit rate, Rumfield's underlying contact metrics do not suggest high-end power upside. Still, he limits swing-and-miss (14.8% strikeout rate), and his hitter-friendly home park in Colorado should help keep his production relatively stable. Particularly in deeper leagues, Rumfield profiles as a solid waiver wire target in the midst of his breakout campaign.

TJ Rumfield Returns After Injuring his Hand on Monday Night

Colorado Rockies rookie first baseman TJ Rumfield (hand) is back in the starting lineup on Wednesday after an injury scare to his hand in Monday's loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to MLB.com. Rumfield is at first base and is batting third in the order against Dodgers right-hander Shohei Ohtani. The 26-year-old left-handed slugger was hit on the hand by a pitch in Monday's series opener at Dodger Stadium and was held out of the lineup for Game 2 of the series as a precaution. He's now back in action for the last-place Rockies, but he'll have a difficult task at hand against Ohtani, who has been one of the best starting pitchers in baseball in 2026 with an ERA currently under 1.00. Rumfield, a former 12th-round pick by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2021 out of Virginia Polytechnic Institute, has been one of the bright spots for the Rockies this year, hitting .284/.357/.453 with an .809 OPS, seven homers, 27 RBI, and 22 runs in 190 at-bats. He's been even better in his last 10 games, hitting .345 with five RBI and four runs scored. Still, Rumfield will be a tough sell against the four-time MVP in DFS formats in his return on Wednesday.

TJ Rumfield Leaves After Hit-by-Pitch on his Hand

Colorado Rockies first baseman TJ Rumfield (hand) was forced to leave Monday night's contest in Los Angeles against the Dodgers after being hit by a pitch on his hand in the first inning, according to Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post. It could be a serious blow for the Rockies, as Rumfield is a National League Rookie of the Year candidate. The 26-year-old left-handed-hitting first baseman came into Monday's series opener against the Dodgers with a .284/.354/.453 slash line, an .806 OPS, seven home runs, 27 RBI, and 22 runs scored in 212 plate appearances across his first 53 major-league games. Rumfield will most certainly be sent for X-rays after he was hit by a 97 mph heater to begin the contest at Dodger Stadium. He was replaced at first base by Edouard Julien. If Rumfield is forced to miss extended time with his hand injury, third baseman Kyle Karros could slide across the diamond to play first base for the Rockies. Rumfield is currently rostered in 15% of Yahoo leagues. UPDATE: X-rays on Rumfield's right hand came back negative.

TJ Rumfield Stays Hot at the Plate, Emerging as Must-Add Slugger?

Colorado Rockies first baseman TJ Rumfield has been a huge addition to his team's offense, and he can give your fantasy lineup a boost if you're looking for some power production at first base from the waiver wire. Rumfield was acquired from the Yankees in a trade late in spring training and earned the starting 1B job with a big spring. He has lived up to his potential through 200 plate appearances this season, hitting .275 with six homers, 20 runs scored, and 25 RBI. He has a .349 wOBA and a .433 SLG, with just a 15.5% K%. Rumfield has been especially hot lately, going 2-for-4 on Wednesday against the Rangers and hitting .321 with three homers and a .414 wOBA over his last 15 games. The Rockies are in Arizona for a four-game series this weekend at Chase Field before heading to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers next week. Rumfield is a solid waiver wire pickup even as the Rockies go on the road, though, since he has produced great batting average and power numbers as a key part of the heart of Colorado's lineup.
