TJ Rumfield Returns After Injuring his Hand on Monday Night

Colorado Rockies rookie first baseman TJ Rumfield (hand) is back in the starting lineup on Wednesday after an injury scare to his hand in Monday's loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to MLB.com. Rumfield is at first base and is batting third in the order against Dodgers right-hander Shohei Ohtani. The 26-year-old left-handed slugger was hit on the hand by a pitch in Monday's series opener at Dodger Stadium and was held out of the lineup for Game 2 of the series as a precaution. He's now back in action for the last-place Rockies, but he'll have a difficult task at hand against Ohtani, who has been one of the best starting pitchers in baseball in 2026 with an ERA currently under 1.00. Rumfield, a former 12th-round pick by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2021 out of Virginia Polytechnic Institute, has been one of the bright spots for the Rockies this year, hitting .284/.357/.453 with an .809 OPS, seven homers, 27 RBI, and 22 runs in 190 at-bats. He's been even better in his last 10 games, hitting .345 with five RBI and four runs scored. Still, Rumfield will be a tough sell against the four-time MVP in DFS formats in his return on Wednesday.

TJ Rumfield Leaves After Hit-by-Pitch on his Hand

Colorado Rockies first baseman TJ Rumfield (hand) was forced to leave Monday night's contest in Los Angeles against the Dodgers after being hit by a pitch on his hand in the first inning, according to Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post. It could be a serious blow for the Rockies, as Rumfield is a National League Rookie of the Year candidate. The 26-year-old left-handed-hitting first baseman came into Monday's series opener against the Dodgers with a .284/.354/.453 slash line, an .806 OPS, seven home runs, 27 RBI, and 22 runs scored in 212 plate appearances across his first 53 major-league games. Rumfield will most certainly be sent for X-rays after he was hit by a 97 mph heater to begin the contest at Dodger Stadium. He was replaced at first base by Edouard Julien. If Rumfield is forced to miss extended time with his hand injury, third baseman Kyle Karros could slide across the diamond to play first base for the Rockies. Rumfield is currently rostered in 15% of Yahoo leagues. UPDATE: X-rays on Rumfield's right hand came back negative.

TJ Rumfield Stays Hot at the Plate, Emerging as Must-Add Slugger?

Colorado Rockies first baseman TJ Rumfield has been a huge addition to his team's offense, and he can give your fantasy lineup a boost if you're looking for some power production at first base from the waiver wire. Rumfield was acquired from the Yankees in a trade late in spring training and earned the starting 1B job with a big spring. He has lived up to his potential through 200 plate appearances this season, hitting .275 with six homers, 20 runs scored, and 25 RBI. He has a .349 wOBA and a .433 SLG, with just a 15.5% K%. Rumfield has been especially hot lately, going 2-for-4 on Wednesday against the Rangers and hitting .321 with three homers and a .414 wOBA over his last 15 games. The Rockies are in Arizona for a four-game series this weekend at Chase Field before heading to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers next week. Rumfield is a solid waiver wire pickup even as the Rockies go on the road, though, since he has produced great batting average and power numbers as a key part of the heart of Colorado's lineup.

TJ Rumfield Continues to Produce, Worth a Deep-League Pickup?

Colorado Rockies first baseman TJ Rumfield stayed hot at the plate on Tuesday, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in the 5-1 win over the Astros. He's got back-to-back multi-hit efforts and has hit safely in eight of the 10 games he's started. The 6-foot-5 slugger is now batting .389 with two home runs, seven RBI, and six runs scored, along with better-than-average strikeout (17.5 percent) and walk rates (10.0 percent), good for a .478 wOBA and 191 wRC+. The left-handed slugger hit for average (.285) and power (16 home runs) last year at Triple-A in the Yankees' organization, with similar strikeout and walk rates, so this isn't totally out of nowhere for the Virginia Tech product. However, with a high BABIP of .444, along with an xBA of .287 and xwOBA of .369, there could be some regression coming. Still, with the skills he's shown and playing half of his games at Coors Field, there are plenty of reasons for the 25-year-old to be rostered in deeper leagues; he's available in 95 percent of Yahoo! leagues.

T.J. Rumfield Ready for a Real Role?

Colorado Rockies first baseman T.J. Rumfield has emerged as a breakout candidate to watch this spring training. The Rockies added Rumfield from the Yankees, who didn't have room for the 25-year-old lefty who hit .285 with 16 dingers in Triple-A last season. Rumfield seems to have claimed the wide-open job as the Rockies' starting 1B coming into the season, after hitting .296 with five homers in his first 22 games this spring training. He has only one strikeout in 62 plate appearances, which will be a huge change for Rockies fans used to Michael Toglia's high strikeout rate from last year. Rumfield may not have the raw power of Toglia, but he's showcased good pop this spring and will get the boost from playing his home games at Coors Field. He has shown enough potential to definitely be a name to watch early in the year from the waiver wire.

T.J. Rumfield Competing for "Wide-Open" First Base Job

Colorado Rockies first base prospect T.J. Rumfield is in competition for the team's starting first base role, according to Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post. The Rockies enter spring training without a clear answer at first base and expect to have several players competing for the role. Rumfield was shipped to the Rockies earlier this winter by the New York Yankees in exchange for right-hander Angel Chivilli. Last summer, Rumfield spent his entire campaign with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and held his own, posting a .285/.378/.447 slash line with 31 doubles, 16 home runs, and a 108:75 K:BB. He is expected to be in the mix for the starting job alongside Edouard Julien, Blaine Crim, and fellow prospect Charlie Condon. If he were to carve out a role, Rumfield may have some sleeper appeal in deeper formats playing at Coors Field.
