Chase Dollander a Pitcher Worth Stashing Despite Unknown Timetable

Colorado Rockies right-hander Chase Dollander (elbow) will be shut down from throwing for a few weeks after he landed on the 15-day injured list with a sprained right elbow. Hopefully, rest and rehab can allow him to return to the big-league roster without having to go under the knife, which would keep him out for the rest of the 2026 season and likely half of next year. The 24-year-old may not be able to return until right around the All-Star break in the middle of July, but even then, fantasy managers should consider stashing the young arm in deeper leagues. Dollander, the former ninth overall pick in 2023 out of Tennessee, was showing improvement in his first full year in the big leagues before his elbow injury, going 3-3 with a 3.89 ERA (4.14 FIP) and 1.29 WHIP with 47 strikeouts and 18 walks over 44 innings across 10 appearances (three starts). He was effective primarily in a bulk-relief role following an opener, posting a 24.9% strikeout rate and 9.5% walk rate, which were both improvements after he struggled in his first 21 starts in the big leagues as a rookie in 2024. Dollander is rostered in just 14% of Yahoo leagues right now. Patience will be required.

Chase Dollander Shut Down for 2-3 Weeks

Colorado Rockies manager Warren Schaefer said that right-hander Chase Dollander (elbow) will be shut down from throwing for two to three weeks, according to MLB.com. Dollander left his last start on May 14 in the second inning with right-elbow tightness and was placed on the 15-day injured list the following day with a right-elbow sprain. His return is to be determined, and in a best-case scenario, Dollander probably won't be ready to return until late June. It's a tough break for the Rockies and fantasy managers, since the former ninth overall pick in 2023 out of Tennessee was making strides in his first full year in the big leagues with a 3.89 ERA (4.18 FIP) and 1.29 WHIP with 47 strikeouts and 18 walks in 44 innings across 10 appearances (three starts). Most of Dollander's outings had come in a bulk-relief role following an opener. Before his elbow injury, the hard-throwing Dollander had become a popular waiver-wire pickup, but he's now rostered in only 16% of Yahoo leagues.

Chase Dollander Goes on Injured List With Elbow Strain

The Colorado Rockies are placing right-hander Chase Dollander (elbow) on the 15-day injured list on Friday with a right-elbow strain, according to Thomas Harding of MLB.com. The Rockies are making the move after they pulled Dollander from his outing on Thursday early against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to right-arm tightness. It's now confirmed that he is dealing with an elbow strain, which means he'll almost certainly be sidelined beyond two weeks. It's unfortunate for the 24-year-old former ninth overall pick out of Tennessee in 2023, especially since he had made strides from his first MLB campaign. Through his first 10 appearances (three starts) in 2026, Dollander was sporting a 3.89 ERA (4.18 FIP), 1.29 WHIP, and 47:18 K:BB in 44 innings while mostly working as a bulk reliever. In Dollander's absence, Tanner Gordon is the most likely candidate to take his spot in Colorado's starting rotation. Dollander isn't a must-hold in shallow mixed fantasy leagues while he recovers, as he's only rostered in a third of Yahoo leagues.

Chase Dollander Pulled Early on Thursday With Arm Tightness

Colorado Rockies right-hander Chase Dollander (arm) was pulled from Thursday's series finale at PNC Park early against the Pittsburgh Pirates with right-arm tightness, according to Thomas Harding of MLB.com. Dollander made the start and only went one inning, giving up three earned runs on five hits (one homer) while walking one and striking out none before getting the early hook. The 24-year-old's velocity was down, but as of right now, the severity of his arm injury is unknown. The former ninth overall pick in 2023 out of the University of Tennessee has mostly served in a bulk-relief role in 2025 in his second year in the big leagues -- Thursday was just his third traditional start of the year -- and he came into Thursday's action with a strong 3.35 ERA (3.83 FIP), 1.19 WHIP, and 47:17 K:BB in 43 innings across his nine appearances (two starts). Dollander's strong start in his first full year in the big leagues has made him a popular waiver-wire target early on, although he's still rostered in less than half of Yahoo leagues.

Chase Dollander a Top Waiver-Wire Target in Bulk-Relief Role?

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Chase Dollander has looked sharp in his second MLB season, emerging as a very intriguing rotation option for fantasy baseball managers. Dollander was roughed up as a rookie last year, but he's 3-2 with a 3.14 xERA, 10.13 K/9, and 2.89 BB/9 through eight appearances in 2026. Those numbers would be even better if not for a six-run outburst at home in his last outing on May 2. He has also managed to induce a career-high 51.5% ground ball rate despite making three of his eight appearances at the hitter-friendly Coors Field. Dollander is definitely benefiting from being in his second MLB season, but we might also attribute some of the credit to his role and usage. The Rockies have been deploying him after an opener, so typically, he doesn't face the top of the order his first time through. It's a small sample size, but he has allowed a staggering .385 BA to opposing No. 2 hitters, so perhaps using him after the opener is a wise decision. He currently ranks #65 among starters in RotoBaller's latest fantasy baseball rankings, but he's rostered in just 33% of leagues. He'll return to the mound for his next outing on Friday afternoon in Philadelphia.

Chase Dollander Offers a High Ceiling Off the Waiver Wire

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Chase Dollander will be looking to bounce back from a rough outing when he makes his next appearance for the Rockies, likely on Friday. He has been working behind an opener most of the season, and he was on a great run before giving up six runs in 5 1/3 innings to the Braves last Saturday. The 24-year-old top prospect had been excellent in his previous seven games, posting a 1.29 ERA and 1.78 FIP with a 0.89 WHIP over 28 innings. He has 42 strikeouts in 37 1/3 innings this season, and he has an elite ceiling if he can continue to realize his potential. Like many young pitchers, the 24-year-old is a volatile option from game to game, but he's shown a high enough ceiling to be a nice pickup if you need help in the rotation. He carries risk when making a home start at Coors Field, but has shown a high enough ceiling that is worth picking up in all 12-team leagues.

Chase Dollander Emerging as a Streamer to Target on the Waiver Wire

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Chase Dollander struggled in his first taste of big-league action in 2025, recording a 6.52 ERA across 98 innings (21 starts). However, the former top prospect appears to be putting things together in his second MLB campaign. Across his first six appearances (25 innings) of 2025, Dollander is 2-2 with a 2.88 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 32 strikeouts. The Rockies have largely utilized Dollander in a bulk-relief role, allowing him to follow an opener. The new strategy is working for the 24-year-old, as he owns an elite 24% K-BB rate. Trusting Rockies' pitchers in their home starts at Coors Field is always risky for fantasy managers. However, Dollander's production and his prospect pedigree give him clear appeal as a matchup-based streamer to target off the waiver wire.

Chase Dollander Shines on Tuesday, Worth Adding in Deeper Leagues?

Colorado Rockies right-hander Chase Dollander should be attracting some interest on the waiver wire in deeper fantasy baseball leagues after yet another strong showing on Tuesday night in a bulk-relief role in a 1-0 loss to the San Diego Padres at Coors Field. Dollander took the loss but was extremely sharp, allowing just one earned run on three hits while walking one and striking out nine in six innings of work. The 24-year-old former ninth overall pick in 2023 out of Tennessee now sports a nice 2.88 ERA (3.34 FIP) and 1.00 WHIP with 32 strikeouts and only seven walks in 25 innings pitched across his six appearances in 2026 in just his second year in the big leagues. All six of Dollander's outings have come out of the bullpen as the bulk reliever. Since allowing three home runs in his first outing of the year, he's posted a 1.71 ERA and 0.86 WHIP with 27 K's and five walks in 21 innings. At the very least, fantasy managers will want to consider Dollander a great matchup-based streamer for his next scheduled outing this weekend against the struggling Mets offense.

Chase Dollander to Begin Season in Bullpen

Colorado Rockies pitcher Chase Dollander will begin the 2026 season pitching out of the bullpen, according to manager Warren Schaeffer. Dollander was competing for the final spot in the rotation with Ryan Feltner during camp. The 24-year-old didn't make the starting rotation after posting a 6.43 ERA, 1.79 WHIP, with seven walks across 14 innings of work this spring. Last season, Dollander registered a 6.52 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, and an 82:49 K/BB ratio across 21 starts with Colorado. It doesn't appear that the former first-round pick has made many improvements over the offseason. The Rockies will give Dollander a chance to prove himself out of the bullpen to start the season. There is unlikely to be much fantasy value here with Dollander probably pitching in a long relief or swingman type of role.

Chase Dollander Makes Tweaks Entering Second Season

Colorado Rockies right-hander Chase Dollander made his MLB debut much earlier than expected in 2025 and struggled to a 2-12 record, 6.52 ERA, and 1.55 WHIP while striking out 82 and walking 49 in 98 innings over his 21 starts. He was better on the road away from hitter-friendly Coors Field, though, posting a 3.40 ERA in 10 away starts compared to a 9.98 ERA in 11 home starts. The 24-year-old heads into his second big-league season with a detailed plan to fix the direction of his motion. "I was a little bit more cross-body -- I was pulling off everything," Dollander said. After making tweaks this offseason, Dollander's fastball and slider are in the zone more, and he's getting more vertical break on his heater. The former Tennessee star could become more intriguing if his tweaks lead to results, but his 18.6% strikeout rate and 11.1% walk rate were not encouraging in 2025.
