Bryce Elder Called Up To Start, Darius Vines DFA'd

The Atlanta Braves recalled right-hander Bryce Elder from Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday and designated pitching prospect Darius Vines for assignment in a corresponding move. Elder will get the start on Tuesday in Milwaukee against the first-place Brewers. The 25-year-old could stick around in Atlanta's starting rotation for another turn with both Max Fried (forearm) and Reynaldo Lopez (forearm) injured, but fantasy managers will probably want to avoid Elder as a streamer on Tuesday night. He's gone 1-4 with a 6.35 ERA and 1.64 WHIP with 33 K's in 39 2/3 innings over eight starts for Atlanta in 2024. Vines, the team's No. 13 prospect per MLB Pipeline, gave up three runs (two earned) in just an inning of relief on Monday and holds an 8.56 ERA in the big leagues this year. The 26-year-old could certainly be claimed off waivers by another team.

Braves Call Up Darius Vines

The Atlanta Braves recalled right-hander Darius Vines from Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday and optioned right-hander Jimmy Herget to Gwinnett in a corresponding move. Vines, the team's No. 13 prospect per MLB Pipeline, will make his return to the big leagues after posting a rough 7.82 ERA (6.15 FIP) and a 1.66 WHIP with eight strikeouts and four walks in 12 2/3 innings over three appearances (two starts) earlier this year. He made his MLB debut in 2023 and allowed 10 runs (nine earned) on 15 hits while walking seven and striking out 14 in 20 1/3 frames, so Vines hasn't exactly had much success in his first 33 innings for Atlanta the last two years. The 26-year-old is likely to come on in relief on Monday against the hosting Milwaukee Brewers, but if he doesn't, he could make a spot start in a tough matchup on Tuesday.

Braves Promote Darius Vines

The Atlanta Braves have recalled No. 14 prospect, pitcher Darius Vines. Vines will replace starting pitcher Bryce Elder on the roster, but it has not been confirmed if Vines will operate as a long-relief option or step into Elder's spot in the rotation. Vines has been up and down between the big-league club and Triple-A Gwinnett this season. For Gwinnett, Vines has made six starts and is 0-1 with a 4.58 ERA to go along with an unimpressive 1.25 WHIP. In his two starts at the big-league level this season. Vines has allowed five runs in 9 2/3 innings with four of those runs coming in one start. With an unknown role and Vines likely to continue being elevated up and down from the farm to the Braves, he can be avoided for now in most formats.

Darius Vines Optioned On Sunday

The Atlanta Braves optioned right-hander Darius Vines to Triple-A Gwinnett after Sunday's loss to the Texas Rangers. In a corresponding move, the Braves called up right-hander Bryce Elder, who will start the series opener versus the Miami Marlins on Monday. Vines took the loss against Texas on Sunday, giving up four runs on seven hits while striking out just two in five innings of work. The 25-year-old got off to a good start on Sunday before falling apart. Vines gave up one earned run with three walks and four strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings for a no-decision against the Astros in his first start of the year on April 15. He'll go back to the minors for now, but we could definitely see Vines back in the majors making a spot start for the Braves at some point this year.

Darius Vines To Make Another Start Sunday

Atlanta Braves right-hander Darius Vines will make another start for the team on Sunday at home against the defending World Series-champion Texas Rangers. Vines earned another start in Atlanta's starting rotation after giving up just one earned run on four hits while walking three and striking out four in his season debut on April 15 against the Houston Astros in 4 2/3 innings. The 25-year-old could stick around even longer with Spencer Strider (elbow) out for the season if he looks good again this weekend. Still, fantasy managers in need of pitching depth or those looking for a streamer on Sunday should be hesitant to go all-in on Vines in the tough matchup. The Braves have plenty of other options for their rotation, so Vines is going to need to continue to impress to stick around.

Darius Vines Recalled On Friday

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Darius Vines has been recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday. The organization is still searching for a viable option for the fifth spot in the rotation after the loss of Spencer Strider (elbow) who was placed on the injured list. Vines is expected to help fill out the rotation, so the rest of the starters can stay on schedule. In a corresponding move, right-hander Allan Winans has been optioned to Triple-A. Fantasy managers can go ahead and avoid Vines until further notice.

Darius Vines Making Second Career Start Versus Cubs

Atlanta Braves rookie right-hander Darius Vines will make his second career MLB start on Wednesday against the visiting Chicago Cubs. Vines has made four appearances at the big-league level this year and has given up seven earned runs on 11 hits (one homer) while walking five and striking out nine in 14 1/3 innings. The 25-year-old made his major-league debut on Aug. 30 in a start in Colorado against the Rockies and gave up two earned runs while striking out five in six innings pitched to pick up his first career victory. He's given up at least one run in all four of his outings so far and surrendered three earned runs in 3 1/3 innings of relief in his last appearance against the Washington Nationals on Sept. 22. Vines isn't a recommended fantasy streamer against a Cubs team fighting for the last wild-card spot in the National League.

Darius Vines Starting Wednesday's Game

Atlanta Braves right-hander Darius Vines will make his Major League debut on Wednesday when he faces Kyle Freeland and the Colorado Rockies, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. The 25-year-old was recently promoted to the big leagues after pitching to a 2.86 ERA with 25 punchouts and 11 walks over 28 1/3 innings at Triple-A. Vines is the Braves No. 10 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, but fantasy managers should leave him on the waiver wire for now. It's unclear how many starts the former seventh-round pick will get, as he could move to the bullpen following Wednesday's contest.

Braves Call Up Pitching Prospect Darius Vines

The Atlanta Braves recalled right-handed pitching prospect Darius Vines from the minors on Monday and optioned left-hander Jared Schuster to Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move. Per MLB Pipeline, Vines is Atlanta's No. 10 prospect. The 25-year-old has only made nine starts in the minors this year in the Rookie League and High-A Rome and Gwinnett after missing most of the season with a shoulder injury. But in his nine starts he's done well, posting a 2.70 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 14 walks and 46 strikeouts in 43 1/3 innings. Vines could make a spot start for the Braves at some point the rest of the way, but he's mostly expected to work out of the bullpen in his first taste of the big leagues. Fantasy managers in mixed redraft leagues can probably avoid him for now.
