David Peterson Set To Start Game 5 For Mets

New York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson will start Game 5 of the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. Peterson has pitched four times this postseason and has been limited to three or fewer innings in each of those outings, meaning he will likely be on a very short leash again in a do-or-die game for the Mets. Despite the low innings total, Peterson has been solid in his outings, allowing just two earned runs over 8 IP. He will need to be sharp again on Friday, as he will go up against Jack Flaherty in a must-win situation.

David Peterson Nails Down First Career Save In Important Moment

New York Mets left-handed pitcher David Peterson finished off the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday, picking up the first save of his career in a 4-2 win in Game 3 of their Wild-Card series. Peterson was tasked with facing the bottom of the Brewers lineup, which included two lefties. After giving up a leadoff single, Peterson induced a strikeout and a double play to finish off the series. It was a gutsy inning for the lefty, who could be in line for a multi-inning role out of the bullpen in the NLDS or could end up making a start. Any way you slice it, Peterson is a terrific weapon to have for the Mets.

David Peterson Shuts Down Brewers In Crucial Win

New York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson was at his best on Sunday, tossing seven shutout frames and earning the win in a 5-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. Peterson allowed just one hit, walked three, and struck out eight in the terrific performance. The 29-year-old finishes the regular season with 10 wins, a 2.90 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 101 strikeouts in 121 IP. It was a very solid year for the lefty, and he has a good shot to make the Mets rotation out of Spring Training next year. That said, his season might not even be over. If the Mets can win a game on Monday and get into the playoffs, he could end up pitching in Game 3 of the Wild Card series on short rest.

David Peterson Pitches Into Eighth In Dominant Effort

New York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson put together another excellent effort on Sunday, tossing 7 one-run frames against a great Philadelphia Phillies lineup. Peterson scattered four hits and a walk while striking out six in this one. He wasn't able to earn the victory, as Cristopher Sanchez also threw a gem, but it was a fantastic outing nonetheless. The 29-year-old hasn't been talked about much in fantasy circles, but he has had an outstanding season. He has nine wins, a 2.85 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP, and 89 strikeouts over 110 IP. If he had been in the rotation for the full season, those numbers are easily must-start status. That said, he has a tough matchup against these same Phillies next weekend, so exercise caution with him.

David Peterson Fans Season-High 11 Hitters In Tuesday's Win

New York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson continued his strong season in Tuesday's 7-2 win over the Red Sox. Peterson improved to 9-1, allowing one run on six hits and a walk with a season-high 11 strikeouts over six innings of work. The 29-year-old has found great success overall with a 2.75 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP in 17 starts and 98 1/3 IP. Oddly, his strikeouts have dropped considerably from previous seasons with a 7.41 K/9 rate. Overall, Peterson has provided surprising fantasy value this season. He is lined up for a decent matchup in his next start at the Blue Jays.

David Peterson Improves To 8-1 On Saturday

New York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson tossed 7 1/3 innings of one-run ball in Saturday's 7-1 victory over the Padres, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out two on the way to earning his eighth win of the season. It was the fifth consecutive start in which the southpaw has allowed two runs or less, which has also been the case in 13 of his 15 starts this season. That has led to an 8-1 record with a sterling 2.85 ERA (4.20 FIP). However, the lefty also has a 1.32 WHIP and just an 8.0% K-BB%, so it hasn't all been great for fantasy purposes. Peterson gets a favorable matchup next time out, which will come against the White Sox in Chicago next Friday.

David Peterson Back From Paternity List

The New York Mets activated left-hander David Peterson from the paternity list on Monday. Peterson landed on the paternity list late last week and missed the team's three-game series to conclude the first half of the season against the visiting Colorado Rockies. The 28-year-old southpaw is now back with the team, though, although it's unclear if his first start of the second half will come this weekend against the division-rival Miami Marlins. He has only made eight starts for the Mets in 2024, but Peterson has looked good when on the big-league mound, going 4-0 with a 3.09 ERA (4.54 FIP) and 1.42 WHIP with 32 strikeouts and 19 walks in 43 2/3 innings pitched. However, Peterson has never had a walk rate below 10% in his career and he's currently sporting a career-low 16.8% strikeout rate, so regression could be coming in the second half if he stays in New York's rotation.

David Peterson Placed On Paternity List

New York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson was placed on the paternity list on Friday. Right-hander Eric Orze was called up from Triple-A Syracuse to take Peterson's place. There's no worry about Peterson missing any of his scheduled starts here as the lefty just pitched six innings of shutout ball on Thursday against the Washington Nationals on the front end of All-Star break weekend. It's actually a positive move for the Mets' bullpen being able to add Orze, who has only appeared in one major league game this season but has a 3.76 ERA in 38 innings in Triple-A Syracuse. Fantasy managers should expect Orze to be brought back to the minors after the All-Star break and Peterson will look to have a solid second half, albeit with the addition of his new dad powers.

David Peterson Stays Undefeated

New York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson earned his fourth quality start of the season after tossing six scoreless innings versus the division rival Washington Nationals on Thursday. Peterson allowed four hits with three walks and five strikeouts to improve to 4-0 on the season. Peterson has been a popular sleeper over the past few seasons and it finally looks like he is reaching his potential during his brief time in the big leagues this season. For the season, Peterson sports a healthy 3.09 ERA in eight starts. Peterson has been able to get out of a lot of jams this season as his 1.42 WHIP is not particularly something for managers to be excited about. Regardless, Peterson's recent success has made him a viable streaming option with more potential moving forward in the second half.

David Peterson Gets No-Decision Despite Solid Effort

New York Mets pitcher David Peterson pitched well enough to earn a win yet finished with a no-decision in Monday's 9-7 loss at the Washington Nationals. Peterson recorded his third quality start after allowing two earned runs on seven hits over 6 1/3 innings with two strikeouts and a walk. Peterson is 3-0 with a 3.51 ERA and 1.44 WHIP, striking out 22, and walking 14 in 33 1/3 innings. Fantasy managers looking for wins might consider adding Peterson, but his overall numbers make him risky. However, his next start is scheduled for Saturday at the Pittsburgh Pirates, making him a good, but not great, streaming option.
