Emmet Sheehan Struggling to Maintain Velocity

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Emmet Sheehan "had issues maintaining his stuff and command in spring," according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. The right-hander saw his velocity and stuff get worse deeper into games, and the team reportedly attributed it to "some mechanical stuff he was working through." The struggle to maintain velocity and stuff didn't stop at the end of spring training, though. Rather, the issue persisted into Sheehan's 2026 regular-season debut against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday. His fastball averaged 95.5 mph in the first inning, but that number dropped below 94.0 mph in the second and third innings, and it fell to 92.8 mph in the fourth. Sheehan still struck out six batters over 3.1 innings of work, but he was also roughed up to the tune of four runs, five hits, and two walks. The Dodgers and the right-hander will now have to continue working on fixing the mechanical issue before his next scheduled start on Friday, April 3, against the Washington Nationals.

Emmet Sheehan Makes the Starting Rotation

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Emmet Sheehan has been informed that he made the Opening Day rotation, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. This does not come as much of a surprise, as Sheehan started 12 of his 15 appearances last season and also made two starts this spring. He was highly effective over his 15 outings last year, posting a 2.93 FIP with 10.92 K/9 and 2.70 BB/9. Ardaya notes that Sheehan's exact spot in the rotation hasn't been confirmed, but we would project him in the No. 4 role ahead of Roki Sasaki. If so, that role would be temporary, as he'd presumably fall back a slot when Blake Snell (shoulder) returns to action. We wouldn't be surprised to see the Dodgers roll out a six-man rotation once that happens.

Emmet Sheehan Behind in Camp Due to Illness

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Emmet Sheehan (illness) "figures to be a leading candidate" for one of the final two spots in the team's Opening Day starting rotation this year, but he's a bit behind schedule in camp after dealing with a sickness, according to Jack Harris of The California Post. Along with Sheehan, River Ryan and Justin Wrobleski are candidates to open the year in L.A.'s rotation. The 26-year-old Sheehan is very intriguing for mixed-league starting fantasy rotations after going 6-3 last year with a 2.82 ERA (2.93 FIP) and 0.97 WHIP with 89 strikeouts and 22 walks in 73 1/3 innings over 15 regular-season appearances (12 starts). Sheehan should make his Cactus League debut soon, and he still has time to get ready for Opening Day in late March. The former sixth-rounder has No. 3 starter upside in fantasy; the only problem is that he's not a lock to stick in the rotation all year long.

Emmet Sheehan to Open the Season in Starting Role?

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Emmet Sheehan is likely to be considered for a starting role to begin the 2026 regular season, according to Katie Woo of The Athletic. That will especially be the case if manager Dave Roberts opens the year with a hybrid or six-man rotation. Both Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto will miss a large chunk of spring training for the upcoming World Baseball Classic. It was quite impressive what Sheehan did last year for the Dodgers, as he was returning from Tommy John surgery and an internal-brace procedure on his right elbow. The 26-year-old had a 2.82 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 89 strikeouts, and 22 walks in 15 outings (12 starts) over 73 1/3 innings in his second MLB season. Sheehan mostly relies on his slider and changeup for whiffs and has plenty of strikeout upside for fantasy managers to dream on if he ever gets a full-time shot at a starting spot in L.A.

Emmet Sheehan Shines in 10-Strikeout Performance

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Emmet Sheehan turned in a dominant performance in a 3-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday. Sheehan held the Giants to one hit over seven scoreless, walk-less innings and piled up 10 strikeouts for the second time this season. He exited with a 1-0 lead after throwing 84 pitches (58 strikes) and generating 17 whiffs, but reliever Blake Treinen imploded in the eighth en route to a disappointing defeat for the Dodgers. Sheehan has now allowed one earned run or fewer in three straight outings, dropping his season ERA to 2.86 with a .97 WHIP and 86:22 K:BB over 72 1/3 frames. The 25-year-old will make his last start of the regular season on Friday against the Seattle Mariners, manager Dave Roberts announced.

Emmet Sheehan's Spot in the Rotation Being Skipped

Sonja Chen of MLB.com reported on Saturday that due to the off days last Thursday and this Monday, Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Emmet Sheehan is being skipped this turn through the rotation, per manager Dave Roberts. That lines up Clayton Kershaw on Tuesday and Shohei Ohtani on Wednesday. Ohtani is expected to be the designated hitter on Thursday. With the Dodgers' pitching staff finally getting healthy, Sheehan appears to be the "odd-man out" or the one that Roberts wants not to overwork, as Sheehan is coming off Tommy John surgery in 2024. Sheehan will likely return to the mound against the Baltimore Orioles this weekend, but at this time, it's still not certain. Regardless, this is unfortunate news for Sheehan's fantasy managers, as the fantasy playoffs are underway and his turn in the rotation is being skipped. Sheehan has been solid as a starting pitcher for the Dodgers with a 3.56 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 48 innings pitched.

Emmet Sheehan to Join Dodgers Six-Man Rotation

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Emmet Sheehan will join the team's six-man starting rotation going forward and will start on Tuesday in L.A. against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register. Right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto will go on Sunday in the series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Tyler Glasnow will get Monday's series opener against the Cards. Shohei Ohtani will slot in on Wednesday for the series finale against St. Louis. The 25-year-old Sheehan will essentially be taking the rotation spot of Dustin May, who was traded to Boston this week. Tuesday's start against St. Louis will be his fifth start of the year. Sheehan has been decent in only six MLB outings in 2025, posting a 3.60 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 26:10 K:BB. He'll be useful for starting depth in deeper fantasy leagues until Roki Sasaki (shoulder) returns.

Emmet Sheehan Starting on Saturday Against Brewers

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Emmet Sheehan is scheduled to make his first start of the second half of the season on Saturday against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers. In Sheehan's last appearance, he went 4 1/3 innings as the bulk reliever behind "opener" Shohei Ohtani on July 12. Saturday will be the 25-year-old's third start of the season and only his fourth big-league appearance. He's been strong so far in just 13 1/3 innings for the Blue, allowing three earned runs on 10 hits while walking four and striking out 13 batters. Once the Dodgers' starting rotation is back to full health -- mainly whenever lefty Blake Snell (shoulder) is ready to return -- Sheehan will move to a long-relief role or back to the minors. While Sheehan has looked good in a small sample size this year, he'll be a shaky streamer this weekend against the red-hot Brewers.

Emmet Sheehan Strong in Big-League Return

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Emmet Sheehan impressed in his return to the rotation on Sunday, tossing five strong innings of one-run ball against the Houston Astros. Sheehan did not factor into the decision in the Dodgers' 5-1 loss. The 25-year-old righty scattered five hits and a walk while striking out five on 80 pitches. The 25-year-old has lowered his ERA to a sharp 2.00 through two starts. His current 10:1 K:BB ratio highlights improved command from his 10.5% walk rate last season. Sheehan is rostered in just 34% of Yahoo leagues and makes for a strong speculative add, given the run support and win potential the Dodgers' offense offers. Fantasy managers seeking second-half pitching depth should take a serious look at Sheehan as a valuable upside play. Sheehan's next start will be on the road Sunday against the San Francisco Giants.

Dodgers Recall Emmet Sheehan Prior to Sunday's Start

The Los Angeles Dodgers have promoted right-handed pitcher Emmet Sheehan before his start on Sunday afternoon against the Houston Astros. Sheehan made one start in the majors this season and allowed one run across four innings of work. During this start, he struck out six batters and allowed just three hits. Through 17 2/3 innings at Triple-A this season, Sheehan has flashed elite strikeout upside, tallying 31 while posting a strong 4.58 ERA with a 1.02 WHIP. Sheehan made his MLB debut in 2023 but was shut down during the 2024 campaign, recovering from a hybrid Tommy John operation. In 2023, Sheehan held a 4.92 ERA with 64 strikeouts across his first 60 1/3 MLB innings. Fantasy managers should view Sheehan as a top waiver wire option this weekend, given his high strikeout potential.
