The Atlanta Braves are in agreement with shortstop Orlando Arcia on a three-year deal, with a club option for 2026, according to Robert Murray of FanSided. The contract is worth $7.3 million. Arcia, 28, won the shortstop battle in Spring Training after the team sent down Vaughn Grissom and Braden Shewmake to Triple-A. Last season he slashed .244/.316/.416 with nine home runs, 25 runs, and 30 RBI across 68 games with the Braves. He might not hold down the position for long with the two other candidates breathing down his neck, and fantasy managers shouldn't be too interested in Arcia, especially as the projected ninth batter in the lineup.
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Hunter Renfroe is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's matchup with Hayden Wesneski and the Chicago Cubs. The eight-year veteran is still slugging in his first season in L.A., batting .252 with 11 bombs, 32 runs, 30 RBI, and no steals over 58 games. Mickey Moniak will get an opportunity in right field and bat eighth. Instead, it will be catcher Miguel Amaya who takes his spot as the designated hitter, batting sixth. The rookie backstop is the Cubs top -14 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, and he's hitting .316 with a .890 OPS across eight games since his promotion. Amaya can give fantasy managers some offensive production in deeper leagues after posting a career .246/.348/.390 slash line in the minors.
The Los Angeles Angels activated third baseman Anthony Rendon (groin) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned infielder Livan Soto to Double-A Rocket City in a corresponding move. Rendon has been out since May 15 due to a left-groin strain, but he's now back with the Halos and should be back at third base on Tuesday against the Chicago Cubs and right-hander Hayden Wesneski. The 33-year-old didn't go on a minor-league rehab assignment, so he could be a little slow to get going again offensively. Although he had just one home run in 103 at-bats before his injury, Rendon had been playing better so far in 2023, hitting .301 (31-for-103) with four doubles, 20 RBI and two stolen bases. Fantasy managers should get him back into their lineups.
The San Francisco Giants activated outfielder Joc Pederson (hand) and infielder Thairo Estrada (wrist) from the injured list on Tuesday, and both players are starting against right-hander Dinelson Lamet and the Colorado Rockies. Pederson is serving as the designated hitter and batting third, while Estrada is at the keystone and hitting in the two-hole. In corresponding moves, infielder Brett Wisely and outfielder Bryce Johnson were optioned to the minors. Pederson is returning for the first time since landing on the IL on May 15, and he's likely to continue playing only against right-handers. The 31-year-old is hitting .235 with five homers and 18 RBI this year. Estrada, meanwhile, will return to his starting role at the keystone. The 27-year-old has been great with a .301 average, six home runs, 17 RBI, 30 runs and 13 stolen bases in 193 at-bats.
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Andres Munoz (shoulder) has been activated from the 15-day injured list on Tuesday. The 24-year-old has been sidelined since early April due to a right shoulder strain. He only pitched in three contests before going down, but is healthy now and available for Tuesday's game against the San Diego Padres. Munoz should immediately resume his role as a high-leverage option out of the bullpen. His return should take some of the pressure off Paul Sewald. Munoz will probably see save chances, but probably won't be the primary closer in Seattle.
Milwaukee Brewers infielder Owen Miller is out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. This appears to be a routine rest day for Miller, which will likely be happening more frequently now. The Brewers have Luis Urias back in the fold and Willy Adames returning soon. That means, Miller is likely going to see his playing time decrease. He's slashing .317/.355/.469 with four homers, 17 RBI this season, so he's done enough to earn himself a spot on the roster. It'll be interesting to see how the Brewers decide to shake out their infield once everyone is healthy. Urias will cover second base, while Abraham Toro draws the start at third base versus righty Kyle Gibson on Tuesday.
Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton (ribs) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. This doesn't come as a huge shock after Buxton missed the last three games due to a left rib contusion. The organization tried to avoid using the injured list, but ultimately Buxton needs time to rest and recover. In a corresponding move, outfielder Trevor Larnach has been activated from the injured list. He'll cover left field and bat fifth versus right-hander Zach Eflin on Tuesday. Fantasy managers should expect Larnach to be more involved with Buxton sidelined.
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (groin) is being held out of the starting lineup for the second straight game on Tuesday. The 29-year-old will miss Tuesday's contest versus the Washington Nationals due to tightness in his groin. He's expected to be available off the bench, which means this is probably a minor injury. Fantasy managers can be hopeful that Gurriel is back for Wednesday's contest. He's slashing .310/.359/.550 with nine homers, 35 RBI this season, so fantasy managers should be patient.
Baltimore Orioles third baseman Gunnar Henderson (back) remains out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. The rookie infielder was removed from Saturday's contest due to lower back discomfort. He sat out on Sunday and it appears he's still dealing with the issue. Henderson did mention he is feeling better and should be in the lineup on Wednesday. In the meantime, Ramon Urias will cover third base and bat seventh versus right-hander Freddy Peralta.
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman (toe) is out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Houston Astros. He is being held out after having an infected ingrown toenail removed. Manager John Schneider said this should be a one-game absence, so fantasy managers should expect Chapman back on Wednesday.
