The 26-year-old has been sidelined with a right elbow stress reaction since late April. Ynoa burst onto the scene in 2021 for the Braves with a strong rookie season, but it has been all downhill since that time. With the Braves needing some depth in the rotation, Ynoa could be an intriguing option, but he still has a lot of work to get back into the big leagues as he has mightily struggled in the minors the past few seasons. He can safely remain on the waiver wire in all formats.

"He looks great, I know that," Snitker said. The 25-year-old missed the entire 2023 campaign, but he appears to be making good progress and could be ready for the start of the 2024 regular season, barring any setbacks. The Dominican hurler has appeared in 31 games (24 starts) in four major-league seasons with Atlanta, going a combined 4-8 with a 5.22 ERA (4.35 FIP) and 1.32 WHIP with 45 walks and 128 strikeouts in 122 1/3 innings pitched. When healthy, Ynoa has some nice strikeout upside, but he'll surely be on an innings limit in 2024 after missing all of last season.

The Atlanta Braves signed free-agent infielder Luis Guillorme to a one-year, $1.1 million eal on Friday and also avoided salary arbitration with right-hander Huascar Ynoa by inking him to a one-year, $825,000 deal. Guillorme, 29, is a left-handed hitter who played second base, third base and shortstop in 2023 and slashed .261/.344/.333 in 823 plate appearances over the last six seasons in Queens. The Venezuelan utility infielder is mostly useful for his defensive abilities, as he has only five home runs and 48 RBI in 334 career games played, and playing time isn't going to be easy to come by in Atlanta. Ynoa missed all of last season after having Tommy John surgery in September of 2022. The 25-year-old should be ready to go at some point in 2024, but he holds a bloated 5.22 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 122 1/3 innings over 31 appearances (24 starts) in his four years with the Braves.

Dr. Keith Meister performed the procedure in Arlington, Texas. The 24-year-old hadn't pitched in the minor leagues for Triple-A Gwinnett since Aug. 24, and now we know why. After going under the knife for elbow reconstruction, Ynoa will likely miss all of next season as well as the rest of the 2022 campaign. He made two starts for Atlanta this year, allowing 10 earned runs on 11 hits while striking out eight and walking six in 6 2/3 innings. In 18 outings (17 starts) for Gwinnett, Ynoa had a 5.68 ERA, a 1.39 WHIP and an 87:35 K:BB in 77 2/3 frames.
Ian Anderson Optioned, Huascar Ynoa Recalled By Braves
The Atlanta Braves optioned right-hander Ian Anderson and outfielder Guillermo Heredia to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday and recalled right-hander Huascar Ynoa and selected catcher Chadwick Tromp's contract in corresponding moves. Anderson was solid last year with a 3.58 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 24 starts, but he's really struggled in 2022, going 9-6 with a 5.11 ERA (4.24 FIP), a 1.54 WHIP, 93 strikeouts and a league-high 53 walks in 105 2/3 innings over 21 starts. He'll head to the minors in order to work on his control. Ynoa has made two starts for Atlanta this year, allowing 10 earned runs on 11 hits (two homers) while striking out eight and walking six in just 6 2/3 frames. He also has a 5.38 ERA in 72 innings at Gwinnett, but there is some strikeout upside here.

Bryce Elder To Start Sunday, Huascar Ynoa Pushed Back To Tuesday
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Bryce Elder will start on Sunday Night Baseball versus the Padres with Huascar Ynoa being pushed back to Tuesday, according to David O'Brien. Elder will pitch on normal rest after he tossed 5 2/3 innings of three-run ball on Tuesday against the Nationals. Elder, who was at minor league camp in March, is more stretched out than most pitchers who were affected by shortened Spring Training and the Braves want to give Ynoa extra rest with an off day on Monday. Elder was fifth-round pick in the 2020 draft and ascended quickly as he pitched in High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A in 2021 and averaged more than a strikeout-per-inning at every stop. He's a name to add in keeper leagues and could have some streamer appeal for fantasy managers looking for another Sunday starter.
Kyle Wright, Huascar Ynoa The Front-Runners For Rotation
Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker said that pitchers Kyle Wright and Huascar Ynoa are likely the front-runners for the two open starting rotation spots to begin the 2022 season. Wright, a 26-year-old right-hander, has a rough 6.56 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in 21 career major league outings (14 starts) over 70 innings pitched. He won't be attractive in shallow mixed leagues, but he could be worth a look in NL-only formats if he sticks in Atlanta's rotation. Ynoa had shoulder inflammation in the playoffs last year, but the 23-year-old appears to be fine this spring and was promising with a 4.05 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 100 strikeouts and 25 walks in 91 innings last season.
