Jace Jung News
Detroit Tigers rookie infielder Jace Jung and infielder/outfielder Matt Vierling are both on the bench for Tuesday's contest at Comerica Park versus the Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Ryan Pepiot. Jung has lost serious playing time of late, as he hasn't started in seven of the team's last 10 games. The younger brother of Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung has struggled at the plate in his first 31 big-league games this year, going 19-for-76 (.250) with no homers, five doubles, three RBI, 13 walks and 28 strikeouts in 89 plate appearances. Zach McKinstry is starting at third and batting seventh, while Parker Meadows is in center field and hitting leadoff against Pepiot. In just five career at-bats against Pepiot, Meadows has a homer and an RBI. McKinstry has yet to face Pepiot in his career. Vierling has hit .238 (15-for-63) with a homer, two doubles and six RBI in 19 games in September.

Jace Jung Promoted To The Major Leagues
Detroit Tigers second base/third base prospect Jace Jung is being promoted to the major leagues according to Evan Petzold of Freep.com. Jung is currently ranked as the fifth-best prospect in the Tiger system and 64th-best in the sport on MLB.com. The Texas Tech product has logged 91 games at Triple-A Toledo this summer and has posted a solid .257/.377/.454 slash line with 14 home runs, 60 RBI, and a 67:93 BB:K ratio. Jung has held a .279/.407/.349 line across his past 11 games. Last summer, Jung split time at High-A and Double-A and held a cumulative .258/.380/.461 slash line with 15 home runs, 63 RBI, and a 71:95 BB:K ratio. Jung is worth a look in all standard leagues, as he should see a majority of the starting opportunities over the final weeks of the season.

Jace Jung Riding Nine-Game Hit Streak
Detroit Tigers second base/third base prospect Jace Jung is making a case for a major-league debut before the 2024 season comes to a close, as he's currently riding a nine-game hit streak, during which time he has gone 12-for-35 (.343) with three doubles, six RBI, seven runs scored, and a 9:5 BB:K. The 23-year-old now owns a .263-14-59-50-2 line at Triple-A this season and a strong .379 on-base percentage during his minor-league career. This is buoyed by a career 15.4% walk rate. With the Tigers going nowhere this season, Jung will be a late-season call-up to get him a handful of major-league at-bats before heading into next season, but it will likely be too late to help out much in fantasy leagues.

Jace Jung Launches 14th Home Run On Friday
Detroit Tigers second base/third base prospect Jace Jung went 1-for-2 with a home run, four RBI, and two walks on Friday evening. This was another strong performance for the former first-round pick, who has carried a .306/.409/.583 line with three home runs and a 6:11 BB:K ratio in his past nine games. Through his first 75 games at the top level of the minor leagues, the Texas Tech product has posted a strong .267/.390/.498 slash line with 14 home runs, 19 doubles, 52 RBI, and a 56:79 BB:K ratio. Jung is considered the 39th-best prospect in baseball and third-best in the Detroit system on MLB.com and should contend for a late-season major league debut.

Jace Jung Has Productive First Half At Triple-A Toledo
Detroit Tigers infield prospect Jace Jung turned in a good first half of the season for the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens. Jung battled a wrist injury that caused him to miss some time, but he has hit .264 with 13 homers and 45 RBI with a .888 OPS. Jung is the Tigers' No. 3 prospect and has started playing third base this season after serving as mostly a second baseman previously. The 23-year-old should push for a promotion to Detroit in the second half of the season. He will be a popular waiver-wire commodity when he does get a chance to make his major league debut.

Jace Jung Goes Deep Twice On Friday
Detroit Tigers second base/ third base prospect Jace Jung went 2-for-5 with two round-trippers and three RBI on Friday evening. These were his first two hits since rejoining Triple-A Toledo on July 9. Jung was sidelined for a couple of weeks due to a wrist injury but is already rounding back into form. In his first 67 games at the Triple-A level this season, Jung has posted a strong .264/.387/.508 line with 13 long balls, 44 RBI, one stolen base, and a 50:69 BB:K ratio. The Texas Tech product is considered the 41st-best prospect in baseball on MLB.com and remains on track to make his major league debut in the second half of the season.

Jace Jung Reinstated From Minor-League Injured List
Detroit Tigers No. 3 prospect Jace Jung (wrist) was reinstated from the seven-day injured list in the minor leagues on Tuesday and has rejoined Triple-A Toledo. Jung hasn't played for the Mud Hens since June 19 due to right-wrist soreness but went 3-for-10 on a rehab assignment with Single-A Lakeland. The younger brother of Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung has impressed at Toledo this year, slashing .270/.390/.500 with an .890 OPS, 11 home runs, 41 RBI and 33 runs scored in 283 plate appearances over 64 games. The 6-foot, 205-pound left-handed hitter has a clearer path to big-league playing time at the hot corner, but he can also play second base, although his lack of range may make it tough for him to stick at the keystone long term. Jung should already be stashed in dynasty/keeper leagues and could be worth a pickup in redraft leagues if he makes his MLB debut later this year.

Jace Jung Begins Rehab Assignment
Detroit Tigers second base prospect Jace Jung (wrist) began his rehab assignment at Single-A Lakeland on Monday. Jung went 0-for-1 with a pair of walks in the contest. The Tigers No. 3 prospect and 42nd overall ranked prospect, per MLB Pipeline has been sidelined since June 20 with right wrist soreness. Jung will return to Triple-A Toledo when he is completes his rehab assignment. For Toledo this season, Jung has hit .270 with 11 home runs and 41 RBI. The Tigers offense has struggled for the most part this season and it wouldn't be a surprise to see Jung make his big-league debut this summer. He should be rostered in dynasty leagues and would be worth a flier in redraft leagues, if he were to get promoted.

Jace Jung Cleared For Baseball Activities
Detroit Tigers infield prospect Jace Jung (wrist) saw a hand specialist on Tuesday and was cleared for baseball activities. Jung is now beginning a return-to-play program in Lakeland, Fla., according to the Tigers. The 12th overall pick in the 2022 MLB draft out of Texas Tech landed on the seven-day minor-league injured list with Triple-A Toledo back last week with right-wrist soreness. The 23-year-old has been bothered by his wrist since May but will now start ramping up his activities before eventually rejoining Toledo. The club's No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, could still have a shot to make his big-league debut with the rebuilding Tigers later this year as long as he doesn't have any setbacks with his wrist. Before the injury, the left-handed hitter was batting .270 (62-for-230) with 11 homers, 41 RBI and 33 runs scored in 64 contests.

Jace Jung Placed On Injured List
Detroit Tigers infield prospect Jace Jung (wrist) has been placed on the seven-day injured list on Friday. This comes a day after Jung was scratched from Thursday's game due to wrist soreness. There was some speculation that Jung was getting called up, but in fact it was injury related. The 23-year-old will remain in Triple-A, but it shouldn't be long before he's back on the big league roster. The organization hasn't given a timetable for his return but hopefully it won't be much longer than a week.
