Cleveland Guardians shortstop prospect Jose Devers filled the scoresheet on Thursday as he went 3-for-5 with two runs, a home run, two RBI, and a walk. This was another great performance by the young infielder. In his last eight games, he is riding a stellar .321/.394/.536 line with three doubles, one home run, and five RBI. This is a great sign, as the 21-year-old held a modest .229 AVG in June. Through his first 77 games at High-A Lake County, Devers has posted a .244/.305/.355 slash line. He is considered the 19th-best prospect in the Cleveland system on MLB.com and should spend most of next summer at Double-A.
Miami Marlins shortstop Jose Devers (shoulder) is starting his minor league rehab assignment with Single-A Jupiter on Thursday. Once Devers is fully cleared, he's expected to be assigned to Triple-A Jacksonville. The 22-year-old is working his way back from season-ending right shoulder surgery last August. He could eventually be called up to the big-league roster later this year, but he'd probably only serve as a backup infielder for the Fish. Devers played in his first 21 major league games last year and finished with a .244/.304/.317 slash line with a .621 OPS, no home runs, five RBI and seven runs scored in 46 total plate appearances.
Miami Marlins shortstop Jose Devers (shoulder) is currently on a throwing program but is not able to play in spring games yet, according to manager Don Mattingly. Devers had right shoulder surgery in August of last year after appearing in 21 games for the Fish in 2021. In 46 plate appearances in his first major league action last season, the 22-year-old hit .244/.304/.317 with no home runs, five RBI and seven runs scored. The Marlins won't rush him along early this year, but Devers should be able to play at some point, barring any setbacks with his shoulder. He had a .231/.250/.308 slash line with no homers, three RBI and four runs scored in 41 plate appearances over 12 games with Triple-A Jacksonville last year.
Miami Marlins infielder Jose Devers (shoulder) underwent season-ending shoulder surgery to repair a posterior labrum tear in his right shoulder, according to Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald. He had been sidelined for two months with what was originally reported as shoulder discomfort. Devers made his major league debut this season, and over 21 games with Miami he slashed .244/.304/.317 with five RBI and seven runs scored. He's shown some decent speed potential in the minors, and is worth stashing in dynasty formats.
Miami Marlins rookie infielder Jose Devers (shoulder) was placed on the injured list on Monday with right shoulder discomfort. Devers was reportedly dealing with the discomfort for most of last week, but was trying to play through it. With the Marlins short on infielders and heading out on a long road trip, the team needed to bring someone up that was healthy. While a corresponding move has not yet been made, the Marlins will likely need to make a 40-man roster move, as the only healthy infielders on the roster are Jesus Aguilar, Lewin Diaz, Isan Diaz, Jazz Chisholm, and Jon Berti. Assuming no setbacks, Devers should be back right when he's eligible or soon after.
Miami Marlins shortstop Jose Devers (shoulder) was unable to get through Sunday's matchup against the Atlanta Braves. He is dealing with shoulder discomfort and this has been a day-to-day issue, according to manager Don Mattingly. It wouldn't be shocking to see the organization give the 21-year-old some extra rest. He has been average with the bat and could be worth watching in fantasy formats. Devers will likely get more playing time later in the season, assuming the Marlins fall out of the playoff hunt. Until then, Devers will likely come off the bench and could miss a few days with this shoulder issue.
Miami Marlins rookie infielder Jose Devers played well on Thursday, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two singles. He scored two runs and drove one in as well. Devers is hitting .250 with a .636 OPS, but he's been much better of late. He's a significantly better baseball player both offensively and defensively (and especially on the bases) than Isan Diaz, but Diaz is likely to continue serving as the team's everyday starter because they are managed by Don Mattingly. Devers is looking like he could be a legitimate contributor as soon as he's given the chance, so he should be worth a roster spot in deeper dynasty and keeper formats.
Miami Marlins rookie infielder Jose Devers had his best game as a big leaguer so far in Friday's loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. In fact, Devers was the lone bright spot in what is hopefully rock bottom for the Marlins. Devers started at second base and hit in the leadoff spot, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. He now has eight hits this season, the same number as Isan Diaz despite having about one-third of the plate appearances. Devers won't ever hit for power, but he's shown a strong hit tool, has speed, and plays solid or better defense. There's a future for him as a regular major league starter, but he's just 21-years-old and manager Don Mattingly has already said (despite the on-field results) that Devers doesn't look like he's ready. We're likely to see Isan Diaz back in the starting lineup for Saturday's game.
