Konnor Griffin Invited to Big-League Spring Training

Pittsburgh Pirates infielder/outfielder Konnor Griffin is among the Pirates' invites to big-league spring training this year, according to the team. Per MLB Pipeline, Griffin is considered the top prospect in baseball in 2026. The 19-year-old turned heads in his first year in the minors for the Bucs in 2025, hitting .333/.415/.527 with a .941 OPS, 21 home runs, 94 RBI, 117 runs, and 65 stolen bases in 122 combined games with Single-A Bradenton, High-A Greensboro, and Double-A Altoona. Depending on how he looks in spring training, Griffin has a real chance to be the first teenager to debut in the big leagues since Juan Soto in 2018. Griffin is expected to compete for the starting shortstop job this spring. Griffin is a premium all-around athlete with plus-plus speed, and he certainly has the looks of a future fantasy superstar, potentially as early as 2026.

Konnor Griffin Quickly Climbing the Minor-League Ladder

Pittsburgh Pirates infield prospect Konnor Griffin is considered the No. 1 prospect in the entire sport on MLB.com and is quickly climbing the minor leagues. Last summer, the former ninth-overall pick from the 2024 MLB Draft made his professional debut with Low-A but finished the season with Double-A Altoona. Through 101 games split between Low-A and High-A, the 19-year-old posted an elite .332/.414/.524 line with a .937 OPS. He hit 16 home runs and swiped 59 bases. Then, during his first 21 games at Double-A, Griffin continued to play at an elite level, carrying a .337/.418/.542 line with five home runs and six stolen bases. Given his impressive rise through the minor leagues, Girffin could be in play to not only make his MLB debut early in 2026 but potentially out of spring training. Reports earlier this offseason suggest that the Pirates may give Griffin an opportunity to claim the shortstop job. Even if it is unlikely for Griffin to debut in the majors at the start of this season, he should be in the mix to reach the big leagues by the second half.

Konnor Griffin Could Compete for Starting Shortstop Job in 2026

ESPN's Jeff Passan writes that the Pittsburgh Pirates are "strongly considering" giving 19-year-old Konnor Griffin "the opportunity to win their big-league shortstop job," according to sources. Kriffin was the consensus minor-league player of the year in 2025 after wowing scouts by hitting .333/.415/.527 with 21 home runs and 65 stolen bases in his first professional season. The 6-foot-4, 225-pounder was the ninth overall pick in the 2024 draft. Griffin has immense talent, but the last teenager to debut in the major leagues as a teenager was Juan Soto in 2018. It could be a situation that ends up biting the Pirates, but with a front-line starting rotation and a potential fresh batch of free-agent bats, the addition of Griffin would make the Bucs an exciting group to watch. As for Griffin's fantasy value, he clearly has the tools to be worth rostering in all leagues immediately if he's with Pittsburgh early in 2026.

Konnor Griffin Named Minor-League Player of the Year

Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop/outfield prospect Konnor Griffin earned Baseball America's Minor League Player of the Year honors after a meteoric rise to the top of the prospect ranks. The 2024 first-rounder was the Pirates' second-ranked prospect in May of this year and No. 37 overall, but by August he was the new No. 1 overall prospect in baseball. The 19-year-old's season began at Single-A but finished at Double-A, slashing .333/.415/.527 with 21 home runs and 50 stolen bases across all three levels. It would seem that he's ready for a test a Triple-A next season, although given his age, he may not see the majors until late in the year or even 2027. Regardless, the 6-foot-4 slugger needs to be stashed away in dynasty leagues if not already rostered.

Konnor Griffin Blasts Two Home Runs on Friday

Pittsburgh Pirates infield prospect Konnor Griffin continued to dominate at Double-A. On Friday evening, facing Harrisburg, Griffin went 3-for-5 with two home runs. These were his first two home runs at the level. This performance extended his current hitting streak to five games. Through his first nine games at the Double-A level, the top-ranked prospect in the sport on MLB.com has looked quite comfortable, boasting a .353/.429/.559 slash line with a .988 OPS. Earlier in the campaign, Griffin spent time with both Low-A and High-A and flashed immense upside there as well. Through 101 total games split between the lower ranks, Griffin posted a .332/.414/.524 line with a strong .937 OPS. Given his quick rise through the Pittsburgh system, Griffin could compete for his MLB debut as early as 2026.

Konnor Griffin Promoted to Double-A

Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Konnor Griffin has earned himself a promotion to Double-A Altoona on Sunday. This shouldn't come as a shock given how well Griffin was hitting in Single-A. Griffin was slashing .331/.414/.525 with 16 home runs, 71 RBI, and 59 stolen bases in Single-A this season. The 19-year-old is looking fantastic in his first professional season. He's currently the top prospect in all of baseball, but probably won't be making an impact in Pittsburgh until 2026.

Konnor Griffin Continues To Shine, Steals Two Bags

Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Konnor Griffin stayed hot Friday, going 1-for-3 with a single, a run scored, and two stolen bases. The 19-year-old now has 58 steals on the season across two levels and continues to flash his five-tool skill set. Since his promotion to High-A Greensboro, Griffin is slashing .319/.429/.508 with seven home runs in 49 games. The Jackson, Mississippi native is one of the fastest risers in dynasty formats and should already be rostered in long-term leagues. While his MLB debut likely won't come until 2027 at the earliest, Griffin profiles as a high-upside dynasty asset.

Konnor Griffin Extends Power Surge

Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop/outfield prospect Konnor Griffin has contended to hit for high power at High-A. On Friday evening, facing Asheville, the top prospect went 1-for-4 with a long ball. This was his second-straight contest going deep and third home run over his last four games. Over his last 12 games, Griffin has only done hitless once. During this strong run, the 19-year-old has posted a remarkable .340/.418/.681 line with three doubles and three home runs. Since being drafted with the ninth overall pick in last year's MLB Draft, Griffin has done nothing short of impress since making his professional debut earlier this season. He began the campaign at Low-A and was quickly bumped up to High-A after a 50-game stint. Even though he remains several seasons away from his MLB debut, he is a must-stash in all dynasty formats.
