Kris Bryant Not Ready to Hang Up his Cleats

Despite still dealing with lower-back issues, Colorado Rockies outfielder/first baseman Kris Bryant (back) said he's not considering retirement this offseason, according to Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post. "I wish I had better things to tell you," Bryant said. "It's not in the best shape, and that's pretty disheartening for me. It's exhausting for me waking up and hoping to feel (better). I can't tell you the last time I woke up feeling I'm in a good spot." The 33-year-old former MVP and four-time All-Star hasn't played in over 80 games in any of his four seasons in Colorado, and he is still under contract for three more years, with the Rockies owing him $81 million. Bryant has been doing Pilates three times a week, hoping it will alleviate the pain in his back. He turns 34 on Jan. 4 and has been diagnosed with lumbar degenerative disc disease, which means he's fighting an uphill battle to be a productive baseball player again, especially at his age.

Kris Bryant Done for Season

Injured Colorado Rockies designated hitter Kris Bryant (back) will not return this season, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post. Bryant appeared in 11 games this year, none since April 12, and hit a ghastly .154/.195/.205 in 41 plate appearances before going on the injured list with lumbar degenerative disk disease in his back. Bryant has tried rehabbing the injury, but to no avail, and he has sought experimental treatments to avoid undergoing fusion surgery. If Bryant opts for the surgery, it could prevent him from playing again. Once among the game's premier players and a former MVP, Bryant's career has gone off the rails since he signed a seven-year, $182 million contract with the Rockies in 2022. Injuries have limited the 33-year-old to just 170 games since then, and he has only managed a .244/.324/.370 line with 17 home runs and 61 RBI in 712 plate appearances.

Kris Bryant Considering Experimental Treatment

Colorado Rockies outfielder Kris Bryant (back) has been sidelined most of the season with lumbar degenerative disease. It's a chronic back condition that is likely to require maintenance throughout the rest of his playing time. Bryant recently told reporters that his back isn't responding well when he attempts to run. That being said, Bryant is scheduled to consult with doctors this week regarding an experimental treatment for his back. The 33-year-old is unlikely to play again this season and might not be able to play ever again. Hopefully, Bryant will be able to find a treatment that does help with his issues.

Kris Bryant Plays Catch on Tuesday

Colorado Rockies outfielder and corner infielder Kris Bryant (back) played catch on the field before Tuesday's game against the Giants, the team reports. Bryant had an ablation procedure on his back on May 8. The surgery was designed to relieve the pain that has hampered his rehab from the chronic lumbar degenerative disc disease that has limited him to 11 games thus far in 2025. The former MVP has struggled mightily with back issues throughout his career, and based on his last few seasons with the Rockies, fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to be much of an asset outside of a potential hot streamer bat for a couple of weeks once he's healthy. Although it's a positive sign he is taking his first steps towards action, there is still no concrete timeline for his return.

Kris Bryant Has Successful Surgery

Colorado Rockies designated hitter Kris Bryant (back) had a successful ablation surgery on his back on Friday and will rest for the next 72 hours. The Rockies expect him to be back in Denver next Saturday, and he will begin activities to build up strength in his back on Sunday. The 33-year-old oft-injured outfielder is hoping to return this season, but he's going to at least be recovering for the next several weeks before he can even think about resuming baseball activities. The four-time All-star and former MVP had gone 6-for-39 (.154) with no home runs and 13 strikeouts in 11 games before landing on the injured list in the middle of April with his back injury. Based on Bryant's last few years in Colorado, we're not banking on him returning before the All-Star break in mid-July or returning to be much of a fantasy asset in mixed leagues in the second half.

Kris Bryant To Have Surgery On His Back

Colorado Rockies designated hitter Kris Bryant (back) will have an ablation procedure performed on his back on Thursday in Los Angeles to aid in his healing, according to MLB.com's Thomas Harding. Bryant was hoping to have the procedure last week, but doctors found blood in an area that sparked fears of an infection. Thankfully, he tested negative for any infection. "It seems pretty intense," Bryant said. "But it's not a crazy recovery period. They actually go into the bone and try to kill the nerves to the vertebrae." The 33-year-old has dealt with one injury after another since joining the Rockies in 2022. He hasn't played in more than 80 games in a single season and was batting .154 (6-for-39) with no homers and 13 K's before landing on the injured list this year. Bryant is hoping to return at some point this season, but it also wouldn't be a surprise if he's eventually shut down.

Kris Bryant To Have "Follow-Up Scans"

Colorado Rockies infielder/outfielder Kris Bryant (back) will have "follow-up scans" on his back after visiting with Dr. Robert Watkins on Monday, according to general manager Bill Schmidt. The result of Bryant's follow-up scans will guide the team through the next steps of Bryant's hopeful return. Bryant made it only 11 games with the Rockies in 2025 before landing on the 10-day injured list earlier this month with lumbar degenerative disc disease. The 33-year-old has essentially been injured ever since he joined the Rockies for the 2022 season and hasn't played in more than 80 games in a single year since then. He started out this year going 6-for-39 (.154) with no homers, two doubles, an RBI, two walks and 13 strikeouts before getting hurt yet again. At this point, the four-time All-Star and former MVP could be looking at a career-ending injury if he cannot bounce back and return at some point this year.

Kris Bryant Not Ready To Return

Colorado Rockies designated hitter Kris Bryant (back) did not join the team for their series from April 22-24 against the Kansas City Royals due to persistent back pain stemming from lumbar degenerative disc disease and instead stayed in Denver for treatment and rehab. Bryant originally landed on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to April 13) on April 14, and it's anyone's guess as to when he might be able to join the major-league roster. The 33-year-old was still unable to stay off the IL early in the 2025 season despite the fact that the Rockies had only been using him at DH in the first month. The four-time All-Star and former MVP also went just 6-for-39 with no home runs, two doubles, one RBI, two walks and 13 strikeouts before his back flared up. At this point, it's fair to wonder if Bryant will even return at all in 2025, and if he does, he might not be very productive for those in NL-only leagues.

Kris Bryant Heading To Injured List

Colorado Rockies third baseman Kris Bryant (back) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Monday, retroactive April 13. Rockies manager Bud Black said he expects Bryant to only require the minimum stint on the injured list. Bryant is dealing with lumbar degenerative disc disease, which does sound serious. The organization believes it's something he'll need to manage, but he can continue his playing career. Bryant has been a non-factor in terms of fantasy baseball since signing with the Rockies in 2022. He can remain on the waiver wire in basically all fantasy formats, but hopefully Bryant can resume playing at some point this season. The expectation is Kyle Farmer will see more playing time with Bryant sidelined.

Ezequiel Tovar, Kris Bryant Resting Against Brewers

After a 17-2 drubbing on Wednesday night by the Milwaukee Brewers, Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar and designated hitter Kris Bryant will get the day off for Thursday's series finale at Coors Field. Catcher Hunter Goodman is also getting the day off. Kyle Farmer will start at short and bat third, Nick Martini will serve as the DH and hit fifth, and Jacob Stalling will do the catching and bat in the nine-hole against Brewers right-hander Quinn Priester. Stallings is the only one of the replacements that has faced Priester in his career, and he has one hit in just two at-bats. This will be Tovar's first day off of the 2025 season. He's started the year by going 13-for-47 (.277) but has yet to go deep in 49 plate appearances. Bryant, a former MVP back in 2016, has stayed healthy, but he's gone just 6-for-31 with no homers, two walks and 10 strikeouts in eight games played.
